The Applied Research of Cloud Computing in the Construction of Collaborative Learning Platform Under E-Learning Environment

In the field of education, cloud computing, as a basic environment and platform for the future network learning, will bring positive effect on construction of the learners' personal learning environment, on construction of school resources, on development of the educational information system. Based on the analysis of the cloud-computing influence on collaborative learning, this paper puts forward the construction strategy of collaborative learning environment supported by cloud-computing and the specific application case, which will provide reference for cloud-computing application in education informatization and social network learning.

Cloud computing is a set of IT services offered to users over the web on a rented base. Recently, cloud computing is considered as a new internet based paradigm for hosting and providing hardware and software services the consumers. The main services models for cloud computing includes: software, platform and infrastructure (as a service), to satisfy the needs of different kinds of organizations. Security in cloud computing is critical when developing services, especially in the education area, cloud computing will be the basic platform of the future E-learning environment. It provides secure data storage, favorable and easy to use internet services and strong computing infrastructure for e-learning environment. This paper will focus on the effectiveness of using e-learning through cloud computing systems. The research study shows that the cloud computing model is extremely valued for both students and instructors to achieve the course objective. The paper presents the advantage, limitation and the challenges of using cloud computing services (IaaS, SaaS, PaaS) as a good platform for e-learning. The descriptive statistics, i.e. of the selected dependent and independent variables that related to the research samples, will be presented by the authors. Arithmetic mean, standard deviation, coefficient of standard variation, etc., will be include in the descriptive statistics. The results of the research study are mainly based on data from questionnaires of survey that have been held by the authors from to February 25, to May 20, 2018, among a sample of adults.

It is worth to mention that nowadays we observe an evolving interest for the acquisition and the exploitation of new technologies in the context of learning specifically the Internet. They are based on the use of approaches with diverse functionalities (e-mail, Web pages, forums, LMS, and so on) as a support of the process of teaching-learning. E-learning systems usually require many hardware and software resources. There are many education institutions that cannot afford such investments, and cloud computing is the best solution. Cloud computing is the basic environment and platform of the future e-learning. This paper mainly focuses on the application of cloud computing in e-learning environment.

Peer-supported badge attribution in a collaborative learning platform: The SAPO Campus case

Most existing software tools for online collaboration are designed to support the collaboration itself instead of the study of collaboration with a systematic team and task management system. In this report, we identify six important features for a platform to facilitate the study of online collaboration. We then introduce the Educational Testing Service Platform for Collaborative Assessment and Learning (EPCAL), which was developed to encompass these features to enable both large‐scale online collaboration itself and the research on these collaborations. The collaboration management features of the EPCAL also make it an ideal tool for teachers to carry out computer‐supported collaborative learning and assessment activities in classroom settings.

The progress and advancement of nation is highly dependent on the merging and upgradation of modern based technology in the Higher education system. Higher education is considered as an industry, for ascertaining knowledge-based civilization. The 21st century has witnessed an extraordinary technological advancement in different areas of world, and the field of education is no exception in this context. The contemporary higher educational institution is placing utmost priority to the use of ICT in teaching learning process and access of online platforms for the learners. The entire teaching learning materials in this ICT dominated world is digitalized, and the students are exploring study materials from e resources available in different educational platforms. The effectiveness of e- learning system was witnessed during COVID-19 pandemic in all over the world. It was due to the effective uses of e-learning system the education was continuously provided to the learners even during pandemic period. The ICT-based e- learning and digital learning approaches are highly emphasize by the NEP 2020 in the field of higher education. This paper tried to explore the application of ICT- based teaching learning process and digital platforms with its importance in the field of education. The authors had gone through the various articles and studies conducted by many researchers in the field of ICT, e-learning platforms, and e-resources to draw descriptive analysis on the above-mentioned topic.

Educational technology has a great revolution in all the fields of education. In the field of distance education, educational technology plays a vital role by providing new and cost-effective platforms to make the teaching-learning process efficient, reaching and developing life skills among learners. UNESCO categorized life skills into main three areas cognitive, interpersonal, and intrapersonal skills. In the present study interpersonal skills were focused which aimed to examine UNESCO’s life skills’ development through educational technology interventions, particularly in the context of interpersonal life skills of distance learners of Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU). The population of the study was B. Ed 4 Years students of which 70 students were randomly selected. Research design was quantitative followed by a survey method. Self-developed research tool was administered, and data was analysed in terms of descriptive statistics. The findings suggest that distance learners using educational technology show strong interpersonal life skills in all the sub-constructs including communication skills, cooperation, conflict resolution, teamwork, respect for others, emotional understanding, problem-solving, and active listening. Comparisons indicated no gender difference indicating that educational technology effectively fosters interpersonal life skills among all distance learners. There was no significant difference in interpersonal life skills based on respondents’ computer literacy levels, job status, and income levels. It is concluded that educational technology intervention develops interpersonal life skills among distance learners. The study recommends that educational technology interventions may be used in all forms of education to enhance the interpersonal life skills of the learners.

In this paper, benefits and advantages arising from virtualization technologies, applied to the field of distance education, are discussed and highlighted. Moodle, the most widely used Learning Management System, and a virtualization system, based on Xen hypervisor, are combined in order to create an effective e-learning environment. Commonly, the main problem about Moodle concerns the server workload, due to several factors, which results in a saturation of physical devices. To bypass this limit, the over-centralized load is deployed on a dynamic virtual machine. Experimental results prove that the proposed system can improve performances, produce low connection time and provide a good distance education environment.

University Level Learning and Teaching via E-Learning Platforms

With the rapid development of national economy, our demand for power resources has also increased rapidly. The traditional power grid can not be achieved operational status of equipment for effective monitoring and control, we will not be able to ensure the quality and quality of electricity service. Group Formation (GF) strongly influences the collaborative learning process in Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL). Various factors affect GF that include personal characteristics, social, cultural, psychological, and cognitive diversity. Although different group formation methods aim to solve the group compatibility problem, an optimal solution for dynamic group formation is still not addressed. In addition, the research lacks to supplement collaborative group formation with a collaborative platform. In this study, the next level of collaboration in CSCL and Intelligent Tutoring System (ITS) platforms is achieved. First, initial groups are formed based on students learning styles, and knowledge level, i.e. for knowledge level, an activity-based dynamic group formation technique is proposed. In this activity, swapping of students takes place on each permutation based on their knowledge level. Second, the formed heterogeneous balanced groups are used to augment the collaborative learning system. For this purpose, a hybrid framework of Intelligent Tutor Collaborative Learning (ITSCL) is used that provides a unique and real-time collaborative learning platform. Third, an experiment is conducted to evaluate the significance of the proposed study. Inferential and descriptive statistics of Paired T-Tests are applied for comprehensive analysis of recorded observations. The statistical results show that the proposed ITSCL framework positively impacts student learning and results in higher learning gains.

For teaching the computer architecture, especially in the course of Introduction to the Computer Sciences, it is a good practice for a student to assemble and re-assemble a set of personal computer system by himself. We called the practice PC-DIY lab. In our experiences, most of the students like the PC-DIY lab very much since they can touch and see each components of a computer system and learn how to put them together correctly. However, it is unlikely to assign one teaching assistant for each student when the practice class is going on. It is usually the case that only one or two teaching assistants are available. Therefore, the students are usually not able to get prompt supports when they encounter some problems during the practice. To cope with this problem, a Collaborative Ubiquitous Learning Platform (CULP) is designed and developed for assisting the students during the PC-DIY lab.

Background: Co- word analysis is one of the content analysis methods used in scientometric studies and mapping the scientific structure of various fields. The purpose of the present research is to map the structure of distance education using the co-word analysis. Methods: The research method is content analysis using co- word analysis. The research population are 31607 documents indexed in the field of distance education domain in the Web of Science database from 1985 to 2016. For data analysis, the UCInet and BibExcel softwares have been used. In this research, the symmetric matrix as well as the cluster analysis and the strategic diagram was used for analyzing the data. Results: The findings showed that the concepts of electronic learning and blended learning had the highest frequency in distance education research. The pairs of e-learning- blended learning, e-learning-education and training, and higher education-e-learning with 446, 328, and 302 word co-occurrences respectively, and took the first to third places in the field of distance education studies. Findings on hierarchical clustering led to the formation of 13 clusters in this field. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that based on the co- word analysis, the structure of the distance education is composed of thirteen clusters as follows: “The process of designing e-learning environments”, “E-literacy”, “The role of information and communication technologies in the process of teaching and learning”, “Strengthening the process of virtual teaching and learning”, “Educational scenario”, “educational planning” and “Individual learning style” and “Learning and teaching quality”, “Human interaction in the virtual environment”, “educational feedback”, “Educational system”, and Miscellaneous. Newly emerged fields of distance education include “human interaction in the virtual environment”, “educational feedback”, and “learning system”.

The information technology of basic education is constantly popularized, basic education curriculum and textbook reform are carried forward step by step, high-quality educational resources are seriously deficient, and these factors directly affect sustainable development of basic education. ‘Education cloud’ concept is introduced in the paper by transferring cloud computing technology in education field. The development of collaborative studies in learning has led to a renewed interest in the field of Web-based education. In this experimental study a highly interactive and collaborative virtual teaching environment has been created by supporting Moodle LMS with collaborative learning tool GREWPtool. The aim of this experimental study has been to find out the success rate of students when using an advanced and a standard collaborative tool in teaching programming languages over the Internet. The system has been tested with a total of 58 students whose aim was to learn the programming language Java. Success rate of students have been measured using two different assessments. Our results show a higher success rate when an LMS system is combined with an advanced collaborative tool during the teaching of programming languages in a Web-based environment.
