The Identification of Emotional Intelligence Skills in Higher Education Students with WebQDA

Formulation of the problem. In recent years, the concept of «soft skills» has become an integral part of the global labor market in various sectors of the economy and society. International and national studies confirm the importance of universal skills, which are called «21st century skills». However, in practice, higher education institutions cannot always create conditions for their comprehensive development. Therefore, one of the main tasks of training students of higher education in modern conditions is to find ways for targeted and systematic development of soft skills. The purpose of the article is to assess the degree of development of soft skills of higher education students in the educational process and to justify the pedagogical conditions that can contribute to increasing the efficiency of their development. The results. The study of the degree of development of the sought-after soft skills of higher education students in the educational process was carried out using a developed questionnaire in Google Form. The questions were formulated so that students, based on their own opinion, determined the degree of development in the educational process of each of the proposed soft skills on a 10-point scale. Students of 1-6 years of study of V.N. Kharkiv National University took part in the survey. Karazina (87 people). The results of the conducted empirical research confirm the need for purposeful and systematic development of soft skills demanded by the modern labor market of higher education graduates. According to the students, such soft skills as stress resistance and flexibility, critical thinking, emotional intelligence and communication skills need the greatest development. Pedagogical conditions and prospects for the development of soft skills are related to the end-to-end implementation of complex measures in the educational process: filling normative educational disciplines with a clear theoretical and practical context for the development of soft skills; transformation of teaching, shift of emphasis towards innovative methods and forms of education, which contain potential opportunities for the development of universal competences of higher education seekers; deep awareness by teachers of their mission in the development of the required soft skills of students; introduction of interfaculty and optional disciplines such as «Soft skills - the formula for success», starting from the first year of study, which will gradually expand the range of universal competencies of the future specialist; introduction of soft skills by conducting mandatory trainings with students; the organization of a summer school that will specialize in the development of students’ soft skills, where in a relaxed atmosphere under the guidance of professional psychologists, coaches and other specialists, students will be able to acquire modern knowledge and the necessary skills. Conclusions. The obtained results confirmed our assumption that the educational space contributes to the development of soft skills among students of higher education in a fragmentary, «spot» way. The path to the systematic and planned introduction of soft skills in the educational space is very difficult and so far takes place at the level of individual disciplines. Therefore, there is a need for a comprehensive policy in this field. Pedagogical conditions and prospects for the development of soft skills are related to the end-to-end implementation of the proposed comprehensive measures in the educational process, which, in our opinion, will be able to provide high-quality training of specialists capable of acting in non-standard situations, making quick decisions, ready for self-improvement, positive communication and a healthy response to challenges society.

A society in which globalization and technology prevail requires young professionals capable of working in a diverse and complex environment. Higher education faces a new challenge: to train people with transversal skills. This requires designing educational programs based on digital technologies that foster the development of soft skills. The objective of this research has been to identify and synthesize studies that have evaluated the association between teachers' digital competencies and soft skills in university students. A scoping review supported by the SALSA framework was carried out; likewise, the databases used were Scopus, Web of Science and SciELO. A total of 333 papers were reviewed, whose publication period was between 2013 and 2023. After applying the Prisma methodology, only 19 studies were examined. The results showed that there is little research that relates the digital competencies of university teachers to the development of soft skills in students. Three different terms associated with “soft skills” were identified: transversal competencies, 21st-century skills and socioemotional skills. 44.44% of the studies reviewed linked the digital competencies of faculty with the development of soft skills. It is concluded that it is necessary for university teachers to have digital competencies to help develop soft skills in future professionals. This finding will allow the execution of other studies in which the motivational and sociological aspects of the stakeholders will be assessed, with the purpose of achieving the competencies required in the work environment. In addition, it is necessary to evaluate educational policies related to the digital competencies of teaching staff and their implementation in academic environments, intending to articulate them in a cross-cutting manner with the competencies that future professionals need for good job performance.

In order to manage the demands of university studies, research suggests that university students should possess efficient self-regulated learning (SRL) skills. The use of mobile learning is believed to enhance SRL skills. Yet, despite the potential benefits of mobile learning, many first-year students encounter challenges in using mobile devices to foster self-regulated learning skills. It is against this backdrop that this study aimed to examine how first-year medical students utilisee mobile learning to foster self-regulated learning. This study employed a Explanatory Sequential Study Design , combining both quantitative and qualitative data. It used the interpretativist and pragmatic paradigms to understand how students perceive and use mobile devices for self-regulated learning. The interpretivist paradigm focused on understanding students’ perspectives, while the pragmatic paradigm aimed to identify effective ways of using mobile devices to promote self-regulated learning. Participants to this study were first-year medical students. The mixed-methods approach aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the research problem by collecting data through various methods. Questionnaires gathered quantitative data, while participatory observation, reflective workshops, and focus group discussions provided qualitative data. The theoretical frameworks that guide the study include the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology model (UTAUT) (Venkatesh et al., 2003) and Vygotsky's (1978) socio-cultural theory (SCT). The study findings revealed that mobile devices were used by first year medical students to manage and control their learning, both inside and outside the classroom. Notably, significant improvements were observed in cognitive learning strategies, metacognitive self-regulation strategies and resource management learning strategies, including time management. Additionally, the study found that first-year medical students had a positive perception of mobile learning. Furthermore, mobile devices were generally perceived as enablers of self-regulated learning (SRL), providing flexibility, convenience, and access to diverse learning resources. However, distractions and interruptions posed challenges to focus and attention. To mitigate these challenges, strategies such as device management and setting boundaries were suggested. Moreover, first-year medical students expressed the need for support in developing SRL through mobile learning. Guidance in selecting effective mobile applications, opportunities for collaborative learning, and technological skill training were identified as essential forms of support. The study thus recommends integrating mobile learning into curricula to enhance self-regulated learning skills in higher education students, especially among first-year students. Higher education institutions should establish deliberate policies and initiatives for mobile learning programs, especially for first-year students. Educators should offer guidance and training on using mobile learning tools effectively, including information searching skill. However, students should be cautious about distractions from the use of mobile devices.

The objective of this study was to validate the Life Skills Ability Scale through internal consistency and construct validity in the context of higher education in Mexico. In study 1, the reliability and factor structure of the scale were evaluated with a sample of 525 higher education students (Mage = 19.94 years, SD = 3.85). In study 2, the factor invariance of the instrument was analyzed based on sample gender, which consisted of 707 higher education students (Mage = 20.03 years, SD = 4.19). The results showed adequate reliability and construct validity with a second order model and an eight-factor structure (teamwork, goal-setting, time management, emotional skills, communication, social skills, leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making). Likewise, there was measure equivalence between men and women. In conclusion, the Spanish version of the Life Skills Ability Scale in a Mexican context is a reliable and valid instrument that allows the assessment of life skills in higher education students.

This study is enclosed into the Information and Communication Technologies research, the design and implementation of collaborative learning methodologies and the promotion of social skills in higher education students. It was an exploratory study, and a preexperimental research. A treatment was applied to the group, and variables were assessed to observe the learning achieved from the application of a collaborative work methodology based on the learning by projects, the students´ opinion about the importance of the collaborative work and social skills showed in the learning environment used. Results made evident that a collaborative work methodology based on learning by projects and mediated in a virtual environment, promote the development of conversation, and assertive acceptance and opposition skills in students.

The present study employs a quantitative approach to measure the student perception of the direct and mediating effect of quality education for ensuring employability skills in higher education students of Bangladesh. The study was conducted on 154 undergraduate and graduate students at a Private University in Bangladesh, through a cross-sectional survey using a structured data questionnaire. The multilevel measurement and structural model, which was based on the constructs of quality education, employability skills of students, course structure, institutional policy, and physical aspects, was analysed using Partial Least Squares modelling with SmartPLS 4. The aim was to identify the employability skills that are present among higher education students in Bangladesh through student perception and explore the mediating role of quality education in shaping these skills. The findings suggest a significant gap between the skills taught in private universities, and the industry requirements of Bangladesh, which highlights the urgency for administrators and policy-makers to act fast. physical aspects have a positive influence on quality education and employability skills, but course structure and policy show less direct impact. Moreover, quality education is a crucial mediator for only the factors that match a direct effect. This proves that higher education students in Bangladesh may not have acquired the technical knowledge required by the industry. However, the present study was conducted on undergraduate and graduate students at a single private university, thus acknowledging the need to diversify the population sample in future studies for enhanced generalizability. The implications of these results extend to educational policymakers, institutions, and stakeholders, therefore emphasizing the need for curriculum enhancement, industry-academia collaboration, and policy reforms.

The aim of the present study is to investigate the relationship of creative educational atmosphere and academic self-efficacy with problem solving skills of higher education students. The research method of the study is correlational. The population of the study includes all MA/MSc students of Lorestan University as 1643 individuals among which 310 participants were selected via Krejcie and Morgan’s table using the stratified random sampling proportionate to the size sampling method. To collect data, the Creative Educational Atmosphere Inventory developed by Mohebbi et al. (2013), the Problem-Solving Inventory (Heppner & Peterson, 1982) and the self-efficacy beliefs Inventory of Žakova et al. (2005) were used. To analyze data, Pearson correlation coefficient and regression analysis were used. The results obtained from the correlation coefficient indicated that there is a significant correlation of creative educational atmosphere and academic self-efficacy. In addition, the results of multiple regression indicated that from among sub-components of creative educational atmosphere, only subcomponent of trust and from among subcomponents of academic self-efficacy, two subcomponents of trust to one’s own ability to interact with others in University and trust to one’s own ability to do homework can predict problem solving skills. Purpose– This paper aims to propose a knowledge transfer partnership (KTP) model, using higher education (HE) students researching in the UK. It is focused on community engagement via charitable trusts, New Opportunities Wirksworth (NOW) & Ecclesbourne Valley Rail (EVR). The researchers designed and implemented a pilot study that explored the potential of a small, yet attractive and active, market town to diversify and regenerate using tourism. This project, which has been funded by the UK Higher Education Innovation Fund (HEIF), has been devised to operate and monitor a KTP in the culturally important heritage market town of Wirksworth, in Derbyshire.Design/methodology/approach– A systems-thinking constructivist approach is used and employs problem-based learning (PBL) through engagement of students in research and data collection. The authors identified that skills for sustainable development within the community are dependent on the reintegration of complex, inter-dependent and inter-disciplinary factors. A holistic approach to the learning and knowledge shared within the community underpins UK initiatives to promote capacity development in ways to change knowledge applications across product and service boundaries. Therefore, in addition to encouraging diversification and regeneration through tourism, this project supported the University of Derby's academic agenda to promote experiential and entrepreneurial learning in students working at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. This paper accords with the current university initiatives to meet the student employability agenda through the application of PBL and knowledge management.Findings– The creation of outcomes and recommendations for Wirksworth's stakeholders provides sustainability through the knowledge creation and sharing processes. There are seven outcomes that chart a path to development and knowledge transfer (KT) and sharing. The authors simultaneously provided an environment for students to gain skills and a community to acquire new knowledge, and these are the outcomes and output of this project. New learning styles may support inclusive academic practice (see related samples of PBL such as Ineson and Beresford in HLST resources 2001). Implications for building a KT community through the social capital accumulated in the project are explored.Originality/value– In taking PBL from the classroom to the community, the authors have created a new KT environment in which skills can be acquired and a regeneration strategy can be tested in a work-or-practice-related setting. Students recognise that they are building learning for themselves that is unique in that it cannot be recreated in a classroom setting. The authors see this project developing into a robust long-term partnership between communities and institutions with KT benefits to teaching staff in addition to students. These benefits will include new skills for PBL, working collaboratively with partners in the community to develop key skills in HE students, innovation in assessment, inclusive learning and teaching, experiential and entrepreneurial learning in practice.

Globally, with the recent technological advancement and innovative capabilities, Higher education institutions (HEI) are adopting information technology tools for teaching in online environments through virtual classroom platforms. Further, the administration of HEI is majorly concerned with students' employability skills and is always willing to empower students to achieve their career goals. The study explores the online e-learning tools like learning analytics and examine their impact on the employability skills of students of higher educational institutions for sustainable development. The paper investigates the mediation effect of learning analytics in influencing the online learning usefulness, and knowledge on the employability skills of the students. The study has used PLS-SEM approach to analyze the responses collected from 172 undergraduate students across universities of DelhiNCR to test the hypothesis. The results confirm a positive and significant mediation of learning analytics in the relationship of e-learning usefulness and knowledge in achieving employability skills.

The objective of the present study was to investigate the impact of reading strategies and reading interest on students' exposition writing skills.An experimental research design was adopted, whereby the experimental group was instructed using reading strategies, while the control group received no such instruction.Additionally, the participants were further subdivided into groups based on their level of reading interest, with high and low interest groups identified.The study population comprised first-semester students, and a sample of 30 individuals was selected based on their performance on expository writing tests.Data on reading interest were obtained through the administration of a questionnaire.Data analysis was performed using ANOVA, with the aid of the SPSS software.Results indicate that students who received instruction in reading strategies demonstrated superior exposition writing skills, compared to those who received no such instruction.Additionally, students with high reading interest exhibited better writing skills than those with low reading interest.Notably, an interaction was found between learning techniques and reading interest, highlighting the combined influence of these factors on the development of exposition writing skills.

Social support can play an important role in the self-esteem of young adults with disabilities. Moreover, low transition skills could negatively affect their self-esteem. However, there are no previous studies detailing the impact of social support and transition skills on the self-esteem of young adults with mobility impairments. This study aims to evaluate the self-esteem, social support, and transition skills of higher education students with mobility impairments, as well as, the impact of social support and transition knowledge/skills on their self-esteem. The research sample consisted of 26 higher education students with mobility impairments studying in three Greek universities. Significant correlations were revealed between self-esteem and social support, as well as between self-esteem and transition knowledge/skills. Moreover, transition knowledge-skills and parents’ social support were significant predictors of self-esteem. Students’ self-esteem was higher when the parents’ social support was higher and the transition knowledge/skills were better. These findings are important because they highlight the value of education aimed at developing transition skills, as well as the importance of providing social support to young adults with mobility impairments.

The article highlights the importance of communicative and organizational skills as key components of professional training for higher education students. It presents the original training program “Development of Leadership Potential: Communicative and Organizational Aspects,” aimed at forming relevant soft skills. The structure, implementation stages, and evaluation criteria of the training are described. An experimental study confirmed the program’s effectiveness, supported by statistical improvement in participants’ skills. The article justifies the integration of training technologies into higher education.

The respondents among instructors offered a number of proposals in addition to their opinions on many issues relating to higher education participation in order to guarantee the fair participation of various socioeconomic groups in society. Nearly all of the respondents emphasized the need for the government to have a more proactive role in the higher education sector. The government's position has been described, nevertheless, with a variety of considerations in mind. One-fourth of the respondents believed that the "state should take its responsibility more seriously." "Economic and political policy should include education policy," the saying goes. "The government must set aside a larger budgetary portion for higher education so that it is accessible to everyone." More public higher education institutions should be established, especially in underdeveloped educational regions. Additionally, "sufficient funds must be provided to already dying ones." Another viewpoint holds that public funding of higher education should be increased rather than relying more on privatization of higher education. Fees ought to be subsidized or lowered. Additionally, these respondents believed that market-oriented courses should be spread evenly alongside liberal education (social sciences, humanities, and pure sciences), as it draws in a lot of students due to its affordability. This position is in contrast to the fact that professional education in particular and higher education in general are increasingly seen as essential prerequisites for participation in the developing global information economy.

Analyzing the curricula and methods of professional future teacher training in higher education, we see that this educational process involves comprehensive mastering of knowledge in the field of art, functional-technological process, structures and materials science, formal composition, drawing and perspective, colorists in the organization of the environment, architecture, basics of environment design and the functional and constructive component of spatial composition.
 The analysis of the professional activity of specialists in the field of technological education shows that for successful design, the presence of knowledge of modern design-projection methods, engineering-technological foundations, tectonic regularities of the formation of objects of the subject environment, principles of combinatorial solution of the shape of the object being created. The lack of practical experience of university graduates leads to their difficult adaptation to pedagogical activities, which is a consequence of insufficient attention to the formation of special knowledge and skills, to the practical orientation of solving educational creative tasks related to professional activities in the field of design. The mentioned circumstances make it possible to consider the issue of the formation of special knowledge and skills in the process of design-projecting as relevant and timely.
 In this regard, design-projecting in the teacher's activity is characterized by the uniqueness of the search program, multivariate problem solving, and the ability to independently evaluate intermediate and final options, and choose an effective specific algorithm. Accordingly, we understand the teacher's creative project activity as an intellectual activity to ensure the quality of a technical solution from the point of view of functional, ergonomic, aesthetic, technological, and psychological factors. The conducted research does not exhaust all issues related to the formation of special knowledge and skills of higher education students in the design-projecting process and requires further improvement of the stages of quasi-professional educational activity, taking into account the optimal choice of methods for solving creative tasks, development of personal qualities of graduates of higher education institutions.
