Linear Programming 3: The Tolerance Approach
- Jan 01, 1997
- Richard E Wendell
Traditional sensitivity analysis in linear programming usually focuses on variations of one coefficient or term at a time. While methods have been proposed for dealing with simultaneous variations of multiple coefficients or terms, the results are limited or more difficult for decision-makers to use. The tolerance approach was proposed to provide a decision-maker with an effective and easy-to-use method to summarize the effects of simultaneous and independent changes in selected parameters. Herein, we review the basic ideas and results of the tolerance approach and explore various extensions that have been proposed.
