Differences in stress levels between junior high school students and college students during online learning

In contemporary international secondary education in Indonesia, English-Medium Instruction (EMI) has gained popularity and expanded into a rising global phenomenon. Recognizing this phenomenon and the importance of English language skills for students from an early age, this study aims to investigate the perceptions of junior high school students in bilingual classes on the use of EMI in schools. A qualitative research design in the form of a case study was adopted in this study. It involved thirteen (13) junior high school students (2 males, 11 females) of two bilingual class programs at a private junior high school in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. Data were collected through questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, and an FGD (forum group discussion) session. The findings indicate that all participants show positive perceptions of the EMI implementation in terms of the importance of EMI for Learning, the importance of EMI for career, and the use of EMI associated with the preservation of tradition issue. This study also reveals the obstacles that are often faced in the use of EMI such as a lack of understanding of technical terms in the content course and teachers' low proficiency in English. Therefore, it is expected that this study will offer recommendations from the perspectives of EFL practitioners in order to optimize the advantages of the EMI policy in an EFL context.

Mathematics is a science that can not be separated from other science as well as in everyday life. The ability of mathematical Connection aims to connect the mathematics with other disciplines and also daily life so that math can be more meaningful. This study aims to determine the ability of mathematical connections of junior high school students VIII class in one of junior high school in Bandung on Comparable material reviewed through gender. Subject consists of 35 students. In addition, the discussion on the mathematical connection ability for junior high school students from the difference of gender, between students and students in terms of ability penyimannya. The understanding of the mathematical connection capability rests on the concept of socio-cultural construction that there is a difference between men and women, resulting in their respective roles and duties. While based on the results of his research states that the difference of ability between male and female students and the results showed that the mathematical connection ability of female students is much better that is with an average of 3.71 from the students 3.59. In addition to gender factors are also found other factors that can affect the achievement of the ability of the connection of the readiness of students and teachers to learn, basic skills of students and basic knowledge of mathematical concepts

The Purpose of this study was determine the effect of Autonomy training on student of “X” junior high school in Bandung. The Sample of this study was 20 students who were classified as having low student engagement degrees were choosen used purposive sampling method. The Student Engagement instrument (SEI) adapted from theory J. Appleton, S. Christenson, D. Kim, dan A. Reschly (2017)is self-repot measure of cognitive and affective. Criterion Validity of this Instrument is 0.302- 0.877 and reliability is 0.747. Behavioral Engagement instrument adapted from theory J. Appleton, S. Christenson, D. Kim, dan A. Reschly (2017), with criterion validity is 0.317- 0.605 only for this research. The result showed there was an increase in the level of student engagement before and after training, statistical test show Asymp Sig <0.05 (N=-3.923) indicates the Hi is accepted, there is a difference in student engagement through autonomy training on student. The suggestion of this research is that student are expected to able to apply this training activity to daily life such as the method of making plans, goal and effort before the beginning of the school semester, So that they can be regular to make targets by themeselves and achieve them.

Critical thinking ability is an important ability to have. However, students' mathematical critical thinking skills are still low. Efforts that can be applied are through the Metagontive Scaffolding learning approach. The Metcagontive Scaffolding approach has been proven to be able to improve mathematical communication skills, mathematical literacy, and self-efficacy. This study was conducted to test whether Metagontive Scaffolding can improve the mathematical critical thinking skills of junior high school students better than direct learning. This study uses a quasi-experimental method with a nonequivalent control group design. The population in this study were all eighth grade students in one of the public junior high schools in Bandung. This study uses two classes as a sample from a number of class VIII randomly graded. The data in this study were obtained through the results of the answers to students' mathematical critical thinking abilities. significantly compared to students who participated in direct learning

This study aimed to analyze the implementation of the Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning (POGIL) model with the Socioscientific Issues (SSI) of environmental pollution in an effort to improve students’ scientific knowledge. The population in this research was 53 grade VII students at a junior high school in Bandung. The research used a quasi-experimental design with 24 multiple choice questions as the research instrument. The experimental group was taught through the POGIL model with the SSI context, while the control group was taught through a scientific approach. Based on data analysis, the n-gain category of scientific knowledge of the experimental class in content knowledge, procedural, and epistemic domains were dominant in the medium category of 50%, high of 46%, and high of 73%. The n-gain category of the control class in content knowledge, procedural, and epistemic domains was dominant in the low category of 52%, low of 41% and high of 67%. The result obtained from the t-test on normal and homogenous data showed that there was a significant difference. Based on the data analysis, the scientific literacy skill of students who received POGIL with SSI was better than students who received the scientific approach, and the attainment of students’ scientific knowledge domains was in the high category. A scientifically educated culture is the ultimate goal of science education worldwide, and one of the key elements in acquiring scientific literacy is comprehending the nature of science (NOS). This study aimed to enhance the views of Junior High School students of nature of science (NOS) in Elements, Compounds, and Mixtures Topic using the STEM engineering design process. The method applied in this research is quasi-experiment. The sampling technique used was convenience sampling, which was taken from grade 9 in one of the junior high schools in Bandung, Jawa Barat, Indonesia, with the age range 14-15 years old. The sample consisted of 38 students in total, consisting of the experimental class (n=19 students) and control class (n=19 students). The experimental class is taught using the STEM engineering design process, while the control class is conducted using conventional learning. The result of this research was that the N-gain students’ Nature of Science of experiment class shows the number of 0.4051, which is categorized as moderate improvement, whereas the control class shows the number of 0.0151, which is categorized as low improvement. The hypothesis test using an independent sample t-test for Nature of science shows that there is a difference between the experimental class and control class, where the experimental class gain higher achievement. Based on this research, the STEM engineering design process could be considered to an alternative to improve students’ nature of science.

This study aims to describe the development of learning log for junior high school students on global warming with demonstration based on Predict-Observe-Explain (POE). The development process started with the preparation of learning log, test trial to obtain the data to be repaired, and obtained learning log tools better. The method used was the descriptive method. Two classes in one of junior high school in Bandung were selected by cluster random sampling. Data collected through the assignment of learning log, field notes through observation and interviews. The instruments were examined in this study is learning log’ task and rubric. While research instruments consisted of student’s and teacher’s interviews guides, field notes, and rubric for assessment authentic’s effectiveness. The trial showed that questions in task still need to be improved in terms of the sentence and the editorial content, rubrics for learning log developed based on the responses of the students. Meanwhile, the effectiveness of authentic assessment test phase is (45%) quite good. The results of the application authentic assessment can measure students' POE. Questions on the task and the rubric developed well. The effectiveness of authentic assessment in application phase is (85%) very good. The response of students and teacher about authentic assessment developed positively.

The result of the monitoring and evaluation of the latest Indonesian curriculum (the 2013 curriculum) implementation at junior high school level year of 2014 showed that one of the difficult things that learners had in implementation 2013 curriculum is doing the result. The characteristic of applying the 2013 curriculum is to emphasize the modern pedagogic dimension of learning, which is using scientific approach, which requires learners to have highlevel thinking skills, one of which is creative thinking skills. The aims of this research is to implement performance assessment in measuring the creative thinking of junior high school students on subject Prakarya. The form of the main performance assessment is the task and assessment criteria. The experimental method that been used is the Quasi Experiment with Non-Equivalent Design Group Research. Population in this study is the students of VIII class of junior high school in Bandung, Indonesia which consists of six classes. And two classes are selected for the sample from that six classes and VIII A class were chosen, while VIII F class has been chosen as control class. The result of this research showed that the rubics of performance assessment can be measure or identify the creative thinking skill, its prove by the result of pre-test dan post-test are more dominant. In material of identification student’s creative thinking skills are reached an average 85 compare 79 with the control class. while in the presentation the experimental class got an average of 85 bigger than the control class which only reached 79.

Mathematics educators commonly believe that an open-ended approach could facilitate students to build their creative thinking ability and its disposition, especially in geometry. This research belongs to a quasi-experiment that used a non-equivalent control group design. The purpose of this research was to analyze the correlation between creative thinking ability and creative thinking disposition through an open-ended learning approach toward area and volume of flat geometrical objects problems. Two classes are selected as the sample, they are the control group and experiment group. The open-ended approach was used in the experiment group then direct instruction in the control group. The population is all of the eighth-grade students at one of the junior high school in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. This study used to test and non-test as the research instruments. The test instrument was a creative thinking ability test while the non-test instrument was a questionnaire. These instruments were given after the learning process then analyzed by using Bivariate Correlation through SPSS. According to the analysis results, the finding is: the correlation coefficient between creative thinking ability and creative thinking disposition is at the middle level. The conclusion is there is a significant correlation between students’ creative thinking ability and students’ creative thinking disposition.

This study aims to examine the implications of the implementation of the Pengembanagan Keprofesian Berkelanjutan (PKB) policy on teacher career management in junior high schools in Bandung. The implication is seen in Penilaian Kinerja Guru (PKG) planning where the teacher explores her career needs, in the implementation of PKB where the teacher tries her career strategy, and in the evaluation where the teacher reflects on PKB. This study aims to find out how teacher’s to service the students, the role of the teacher in facilitating slow learners in mathematics learning, and other constraints that the slow learners faced. This research was a case study in a junior high school in Bandung. Participants in this study were five students in 8th grade. This research was carried out through observation the learning activities, interviewing the slow learner students, and interviewing mathematics teachers. The one of the result in this study was showed that children who are classified as slow learners were not well facilitated to achieving mathematics learning goals. Slow learners need a longer study time than their peers, so they need special education services. One of alternative solution that can be done by teachers is that teachers should pay special attention such as teacher gives opportunity to slow learners get more time to study the subjects material and do the clinical teaching. The importance of teachers conducting clinical teaching are giving the direction to the slow learner students in the learning process, and helping the students to overcome the difficulties faced by slow learner students.

In order to survive and improve self quality in higher levels of education and work, generic science skills are needed. Generic science skill is the skill that can be grown from science learning as a provision to pursue careers in a broader field. In this day and age, many things can be done by using devices, including physics learning. This study aims to find out the differences of generic science skills improvement between a class that apply solar system learning with a scientific approach assisted by Solar System Scope with a class that do not use Solar System Scope. The method used in this study was quasi-experiment with the control group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 31 experimental class students and 31 control class students in the junior high school in Bandung. Both classes were given the multiple choice test. The results of data analysis showed an improvement in both classes with N-gain 45.9% in the experimental class and 22.8% in the control class. The conclusion of this study can be showed by Mann Whitney hypothesis test which produces z = -3.60. It shows that there is a significant differences of generic science skills improvement between both classes after the implementation of solar system learning assisted by Solar System Scope.

Mathematical abstraction is a cognitive process when students construct their mathematics knowledge and the result of the process itself. This study explores the mathematical abstraction of students related to the concept and the area of triangles. For this reason, firstly, the researchers developed four questions. This study was conducted in one junior high school in Bandung. Twenty-three students, grade 7 (12-14 years old), were involved in this study. Data were collected through observation of the test results and followed by students interviews. Finally, data were analyzed qualitatively. The researchers found that the low-achievement students tend to understand the triangles which consist of the interior area bounded by three straight lines and the lines themselves; they also tend to understand the area of triangles as the result of the pattern of a base times height divided into two. Besides, there are indications that low-achievement students need help from teachers so that they can achieve a higher level of abstraction.
