The Website Interface Design and Investigation of Interactive Availability

Exploring the design criteria of website interfaces for gender

This chapter reviews the different types of personalization systems commonly employed by Web sites and argues that their deployment as Web site interface design decisions may have as big an impact as the personalization systems themselves. To accomplish this, this chapter makes a case for treating Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) issues seriously. It also argues that Web site interface design decisions made by organizations, such as the type and level of personalization employed by a Web site, have a direct impact on the communication capability of that Web site. This chapter also explores the impact of the deployment of personalization systems on users’ loyalty towards the Web site, thus underscoring the practical relevance of these design decisions.

Interface and interaction design: How mobile touch devices foster cognitive offloading

One of the most important contributors to foreign exchange is tourism, and one type of accommodation that can help the tourism industry is hotels. Currently, the website is one of the elements that helps visitors obtain information about the hotel and make reservations for available rooms. One technique for attracting hotel customers is to create an eye-catching website. The process of translating human emotions and feelings into a design–in this case, the design of a website interface–is known as Kansei Engineering. The main goal of this study is to select the most critical emotional factors for redesigning the website of the Ocean View Tulamben Bali Hotel. This study contributes to the knowledge in the field of website interface design based on emotional factors by applying the multivariate method and Kansei Engineering. The related users’ critical emotions were translated into Kansei words in this study. Seven Kansei words related to the website interface were used and six hotel websites were used as samples. The 33 respondents were employees of the Ocean View Tulamben Bali Hotel. Multivariate statistical analysis, including Cronbach’s alpha, coefficient correlation analysis, factor analysis, and partial least squares, were used to examine the respondents’ questionnaire responses. Recommendations for redesigning the hotel website interface were derived from the average of all questionnaires. The results showed that the Kansei word “futuristic” was the most important user emotion. Websites at higher education institutions have a strategic role as a medium for delivering practical information and communication. Evaluation of the UI/UX on the website is one way to maintain the effectiveness of the website. This study provides an overview of the UI/UX evaluation on a faculty website at State Islamic University (UIN) Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung. The heuristic evaluation method is used to dig up information and find errors and successes in a website interface design. The Webuse method is used to measure usability about user satisfaction with a website. The respondents of this study were website users, students, and lecturers, totaling 98 respondents. The results of the study indicate that seven aspects of website assessment are lacking. Based on the evaluation of appearance and usability, 17 proposals for improving the website's appearance on desktop and mobile have been made.

The present manuscript-based doctoral thesis addresses the question of how approaches to interaction design can be made more structured. This is an attempt to make it more transparent how one can come to a final design of a user interface starting from the results of foundational user research. The results of this analysis can help designers to work very systematic at times, to better reflect on their own idiosyncratic design process “on the job”, or to learn interaction design in the first place. In user-centered design (UCD) there are lifecycles and methods that already provide a certain degree of structuring with the discrimination of different phases etc. But they leave open some gaps here and there. This work is an attempt to close some of the gaps and bring closer together these individual methods. Interaction design patterns are a way to describe solutions to problems in designing user in-terfaces in a very systematic way. However, pattern libraries usually are far from complete. They mostly lack patterns to support the early phases of interaction design and therefore they do usually not link to the abstract models of conceptual design. The third manuscript describes an organizational scheme for interaction design patterns to support the process of implementing a complete pattern language covering all the different levels of the solution domain. The scheme has been found by analyzing several established UCD lifecycles and it has been evaluated by organizing all the individual patterns of several public pattern libraries into it. The first manuscript describes a process of systematically building up a pattern language alongside of a redesign project of a complex application in a corporate environment. The second manuscript describes how patterns have been evaluated in the aforementioned project, when there were several different solutions for one problem. This is shown with two interaction design patterns for the problem of making required input fields visible to users. The fourth manuscript is an attempt to bring together the idea of a complete pattern language, as a description of the solution domain of interaction design, with the different parts of the problem domain. Therefore, the same UCD lifecycles (as in the third manuscript) have been analyzed to find a universal structure of the problem domain. Then all the mappings between the individual parts of the two domains have been described in order to link the two domains in this direct way. Another way of looking at the gap between the problem domain and the solution domain is by seeing it as a distance of levels of abstraction between results of foundational user research and the final user interface. From this point of view a bridging of the gap can be seen in different intermediate representations (abstract models, sketches, and prototypes) and linking them together in a coherent way. These different ways of bridging the gap between foundational user research and the final design of a user interface can be seen as cognitive artifacts to foster problem solving and learning of interaction designers.

Amil Zakat Institution Yayasan Masyarakat Muslim Freeport Indonesian or better known as YMM FI is an institution that distributed to the community. However, even though it has been operating for a long time, YMM FI does not have a website as information media. The basis of good website is the existence of an attractive interface that is easily understood by users, therefore this study has designed a user interface and user experience using the user centered design method through its four stages, namely; the first stage is to understand the context of use, at this stage interviews are conducted with users, then the second stage specify user requirements is a description of the flow of the system that will run using a unified modelling language, then the third stage is the design solution at this stage the researcher has proposed a website interface design, then the last stage is evaluate against requirements. which is the evaluation stage of the proposed interface design. The evaluation stage is carried out to provide experience for users. Based on usability testing with pay attention to effective and efficient aspects. To get the value of the usability testing aspects, researchers used the cognitive walkthrough method and the system usability scale (SUS). In the effective aspect, an average value of 100% is obtained for the admin display and 96% for the muzakki display, then the effective aspect gets an average value of 100% for the admin display and 95% for the muzakki display, then the SUS average value is 76,5 almost close to 77 which gets a good grade.

In this panel, we propose to figure out how requirements engineering and interaction design can be usefully combined. In particular, some people argue that scenarios/ use cases should be concrete, as in story-telling. Others argue for use of essential use cases as a methodological approach to interaction and user-interface design. Somewhat in the middle, it is argued that use cases should help acquiring the requirements in the first place. What should the practitioner believe and, in particular, do, in order to develop useful and usable software and systems? Software development and interaction design require different skills and different methods and are typically done by different people. Still, scenario-based design is proposed for several activities relevant for both tasks, such as requirements elicitation, software design, and interaction design. Symbolic modeling in this spirit is actually common to various fields. However, scenario-based approaches vary, especially with regard to their use, e.g., employing abstract use cases or integrating scenarios with functions and goals in a systematic design process. So, the key issue to be raised at the panel is how to combine different approaches, e.g., in scenario-based development, so that the interaction design as well as the development of the user interface and of the software internally result in an overall useful and useable system.

User experience with web browsing on small screens: Experimental investigations of mobile-page interface design and homepage design for news websites

This chapter will address the issues of interface design and incorporation of human behavior factors into the design process. The traditional process engineering approach to software development embeds interface design as a task component. However, the interface design process has grown as a discipline and is beyond the single process within a larger scheme that may be lost on the priority list. The functionality and specifications for software developers tend to focus on the project and less on the product. In addition, bridging the gap of the design process to include global elements of the software is an issue for products that are internationally distributed. It is something that the computer industry must address and has been historically unsuccessful at doing. Incorporating human interactivity and screen design requires an understanding of the user and their behavior that is not part of the traditional tasks of most designers and programmers. This chapter presents the importance of human interactivity and interface design as an embedded process.

e-Resources in the university library as learning resources are one of the primary services that promote learning and research to improve university productivity. At present, users find it difficult to access e-resources and require assistance in finding them. When using the system, users felt frustrated, confused, and lost. The e-resources services system on library websites, on the other hand, lacks sociability and a sense of human warmth. Sociability and a sense of human warmth can be integrated into the website interface, which may evoke the sensation of being with an actual individual, even if the service is provided online. This study investigated the social presence aspects that can be implemented in the library's e-resources system. The purpose of this study is to elicit social presence features that can be implemented in the design of e-resource interfaces on library websites. The methods used in this study are in three phases: a) web content analysis from twelve university library interfaces designed in several countries; b) interviews with library staff; and c) assessment by a questionnaire of library website users. Website content analysis was used to investigate elements that offer many unique features to support the implementation of social presence through the e-resources interface. An interview was used to validate elements that were found in the web content analysis, and a questionnaire phase was used to assess the user requirements for these social presence elements. The results of empirical studies show that users need some elements of social presence, such as comments, chat, ratings, voice, personalized welcome in library accounts, tools, preference language, links for reference managers, and social media, as well as ease of access such as readable help font, color, and font size.

Knowledge-based support for user adapted interaction design

E-learning applications or online learning is a very broad topic. This article discusses best practices in designing online learning to provide the best learning experience to students. Recently too many e-learning applications have been produced to help the learning process to be easily accessible anytime and anywhere. Students are so excited because access to learning materials is no longer limited to printed materials. The results of studies on the effectiveness of online learning show inconsistent findings. This is because most of the applications developed do not emphasize effective design. If applications are developed without considering the design principles of an effective e-learning application, it is impossible to provide a meaningful learning experience to students. So, these best practices have been gathered through analytical documents from books, journal articles and successful e-learning developers to help designers and developers of e-learning applications to produce effective applications. There are three main things that need to be emphasized in the design of e-learning applications, namely interface design, content design and interaction design. In interface design, among the things that are evaluated is how to produce an interface that can use the cognitive load effectively. Meanwhile, for content design, what is the appropriate learning and teaching theory to be applied so that the learning experience becomes something meaningful. For interaction design, it is important for the behavior of an application to be predictable and usable. Good interaction design shows features such as easy to use, efficient, safe, easy to learn and easy to remember how to use it. In this article, best practices for designing according to these three aspects will be discussed. Although these best practices are still not comprehensive, they can help learning application developers, teachers, instructors, lecturers, or trainers to be able to provide online learning materials and design e-learning interesting applications effectively.

With the continuous development of science and technology, virtual reality (VR) technology has gradually become an important tool in intangible cultural heritage protection. This paper aims to design a virtual reality interactive interface to enhance the user experience of intangible cultural heritage protection. Firstly, the design objectives and requirements are determined by analyzing intangible cultural heritage's characteristics and protection needs. Then, an interactive interface design scheme is proposed based on the principle and application of virtual reality technology. The scheme includes user interface design, interaction design, and information display design. Finally, the effect of the design scheme is evaluated through user experiments, and the user experience is analyzed and summarized. The experimental results show that the designed virtual reality interactive interface can effectively improve the user experience of intangible cultural heritage protection, immerse users in the world of intangible cultural heritage, and enhance protection awareness and participation.
