This study examines the global issue of adolescent well-being by conducting a bibliometric analysis of 1,162 publications from the Scopus database, covering the period from 2003 to March 2023. The research aims to identify the most influential contributors, including countries, authors, journals, and key topics, within the field of adolescent well-being. The findings reveal that the USA, the UK, and Italy are the most active countries in this area of research, indicating their strong focus on adolescent well-being issues. Leading authors such as Landsverks and Barth are recognized as highly influential contributors to the field, with their work being frequently cited. The study also highlights prominent academic journals, including Children and Youth Services Review, Child Abuse and Neglect, and Journal of Youth and Adolescence, which have emerged as key platforms for disseminating research on adolescent well-being. These journals have played a crucial role in shaping academic discourse, as evidenced by their high citation counts. In terms of research topics, the analysis identifies major themes such as contributing factors to adolescent well-being and interventions aimed at improving it. These topics have been the focus of extensive research, reflecting the global concern for understanding and addressing the challenges faced by adolescents. The study provides a detailed overview of the current trends in research on adolescent well-being, offering valuable insights for future studies. Overall, the findings contribute to the growing body of literature in this area and underscore the importance of continued research on adolescent well-being at a global level.

Depression is one of the common mental illnesses. Because it is an important complication of diabetes, its association with changes in insulin levels and insulin resistance, the causative factors of diabetes, has attracted widespread attention. However, the association between insulin and depression has not been systematically studied through bibliometric and visual analysis. This study is based on 3131 publications of Web of Science to identify the current research status and research trends in this field. The results show that since 2010, the number of publications has been growing rapidly. Cooperative network analysis shows that the United States, the University of Toronto and Roger S Mcintyre are the most influential countries, research institutes and scholars, respectively. Insulin resistance, obesity, and metabolic syndrome are hot topics in this field. Analysis of keywords and references reveals that “sex hormones,” is new research area that constantly emerging. As far as we know, this study is the first one to visualize the association between depression and insulin and predict potential future research trends through bibliometric and visual analysis.

PurposeThis paper provides a critical review of developments in the adaptability of buildings. The purpose of this paper is to determine the current “state-of-the-art”, describe current thinking and trends in research and practice, and identify issues and gaps that further research can address. It provides a basis for a scientific and practical understanding of the interdependencies across different design criterion. This paper increases the awareness of architects, engineers, clients and users on the importance of adaptability and its role in lowering impacts over the lifecycle of buildings as part of the infrastructure system.Design/methodology/approachThis paper draws mainly from the literature as its source of evidence. These were identified from established databases and search engines (e.g. Scopus, ISI Web of Knowledge and Google Scholar) using keywords such as adaptability, adaptable, adaptation, and flexibility. Over 80 sources including books, journal papers, conference proceedings, research reports and doctoral theses covering the period 1990 to 2017 were reviewed and categorised. An inductive approach was used to critically review and categorise these publications and develop a framework for analysis.FindingsThe concept of adaptability includes many dimensions which can broadly fall into two categories: changes to buildings and user adaptations to buildings. However, previous research has mostly focussed on the former, with many attempts to identify building attributes that facilitate adaptability, and some considerations for its assessment. Key areas that have not been adequately addressed and which require further research include: user/occupant adaptations, cost, benefits and implications of various adaptability measures, and the development of a standardised assessment methodology that could aid in decision making in the design stage of buildings.Research limitations/implicationsThe adaptability strategies considered in this review focussed mainly on building components and systems, and did not include the contribution of intelligent and smart/biological systems. The coverage is further limited in scope due to the period considered (1990-2017) and the exclusion of terms such as “retrofit” and “refurbishment” from the review. However, the findings provide a solid basis for further research in the areas identified above. It identifies research issues and gaps in knowledge between the defined needs and current state-of-the-art on adaptive building for both research and practice.Originality/valueThis paper is a review of research into a highly topical subject, given the acknowledged need to adapt buildings over their lifecycle to environmental, economic or social changes. It provides further insights on the dimensions of adaptability and identifies areas for further research that will contribute to the development of robust tools for the assessment of building adaptability, which will enhance the decision-making process of building design and the development of a more sustainable built environment.

Objectives:The purpose of this study was to investigate the current trends in research on pharmacopuncture in Korea since 2007.Methods:A literature review was performed by using the search engines ‘Science and Technology Society Village’, ‘Korean Studies Information Service System’, ‘National Discovery for Science Leaders’, and ‘Oriental Medicine Advanced Searching Integrated System’ in Korea from January 2007 to December 2013. Searched key words were ‘pharmacopuncture’, ‘herbal acupuncture’, ‘aqua-acupuncture’, and ‘bee venom’. Finally, we selected 457 papers, including Korean experimental studies and clinical studies. Selected papers were classified according to year of publication, type of pharmacopuncture, disease & topic, research type and the publishing journal.Results:One hundred fifty pharmacopunctures were studied in 457 papers. Single compound pharmacopuncture was the most studied pharmacopuncture in experimental studies while animal-based pharmacopuncture was the most studied pharmacopuncture in clinical studies. Bee venom placed first among the various pharmacopunctures, followed by placenta, sweet bee venom, mountain-ginseng, and anti-inflammatory pharmacopunctures. Experimental research on pharmacopuncture has fallen since 2007 when 55 papers were published. However, clinical research has been increasing steadily. In clinical studies, case reports were numerous than randomized clinical trials (RCTs). Musculoskeletal diseases were the most frequently-treated diseases in studies on pharmacopuncture; among the musculoskeletal diseases, rheumatoid arthritis was the most frequently-treated disease in experimental studies and low back pain was the most frequently-treated condition in clinical studies. Since 2007, 45 different journals have published studies on pharmacopuncture, with the Journal of the Korean Acupuncture and Moxibustion Medicine Society having the largest number of papers on pharmacopuncture and the Journal of Pharmacopuncture the second largest number.Conclusion:The trends in research on pharmacopuncture published in studies from 2007 to 2013 were similar to those in studies published before 2006. Many studies on pharmacopuncture focused on bee venom and musculoskeletal diseases. Additional studies on diverse types of and indications for pharmacopuncture are needed.

Current Global Research Trends of Tethered Cord Syndrome Surgery: A Scientometric and Visual Analysis

Due to the high energy consumption characteristics of industrial warehouse buildings, the demand for energy regeneration technology is increasingly urgent. In recent years, with the rapid development of building energy technology, warehouse building energy regeneration technology has made remarkable progress in energy conservation and sustainable development. A deep understanding of the previous research progress and trends can provide the scientific basis for guiding subsequent in-depth research. Through the bibliometric analysis of 145 journal articles collected from the Web of Science (WoS) database between 2004 and 2024, this research has studied the research trends and progress on the application of energy regeneration in industrial warehouse buildings. This study first revealed the overall development trend of energy regeneration technology in warehouse buildings through quantitative analysis, indicating that related research is growing rapidly. Core scholars in the field such as Lund H. and Mathiesen B.V., as well as major journals such as Energy and Sustainability, have been identified through the analysis of the literature. Five core research themes, including energy efficiency improvement and regeneration technology, renewable energy system design, life cycle sustainable technology, renewable energy utility assessment, and policy support and energy consumption simulation, were identified through cluster analysis. Through evolutionary analysis, this study demonstrates the development process of energy regeneration in warehouse buildings and the critical role played by advances in new energy technologies in the field of warehouse construction. On this basis, this study proposes current key research directions, including energy life cycle assessment, energy regeneration environment optimization, and energy system management. The research on the energy regeneration of warehouse buildings has gradually become an important cross-subject of architecture and energy technology, providing technical support for the transformation of low-carbon storage buildings. The analysis of the current research status, evolutionary logic, and research trends can provide scientific references for further in-depth research and technological applications in this field.

Objective: To assess the current research status of retinal vein occlusion (RVO) and to explore its research trends and hotspots based on bibliometrics. Methods: A bibliometric study was conducted on April 25, 2024, retrieving articles from China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang, and Web of Science Core Collection covering 2014 to 2023. CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and Microsoft Excel were used for visualization and analysis of annual publications, country distribution, author productivity, journals, cited references, and keywords. Results: A total of 1 929 articles in Chinese and 2 764 international publications were identified. The ophthalmology journals dominated the publication venues. Retina-The Journal of Retinal and Vitreous Diseases published the highest number of foreign-language articles (n=178), accounting for 6.44% of the international literature analyzed. International Eye Science published the highest number of Chinese-language articles (n=140), accounting for 7.26% of the Chinese literature analyzed. Research on RVO followed an interdisciplinary development pattern, with research hotspots primarily focused on ophthalmology, molecular biology, and immunology. The U.S. produced the largest volume of papers (659), followed by China (481), while France achieved the highest citation impact (average 28.19 citations per article). Akitaka Tsujikawa was the most prolific foreign author (41 papers, 479 citations, average 10.89 citations per paper). The keyword analysis extracted 373 and 823 keywords from the Chinese and foreign literature, respectively, with major bursts in 2015 and 2020. The early studies focused on clinical and pathological features; recent research emphasized molecular mechanisms, novel drugs, and therapies. The keyword clustering identified 17 and 6 significant clusters in the Chinese and foreign literature, respectively. The topics such as macular edema, ranibizumab, vascular endothelial growth factor, and quality of life emerged in 2015 and remained as central priorities. Conclusion: RVO and macular edema are primary research foci both domestically and internationally. Macular edema, ranibizumab, vascular endothelial growth factor, and quality of life have become enduring hotspots within the field of RVO research over the past decade.

BackgroundLung cancer ranks as one of the most rapidly growing malignancies. Which is characterized by its poor prognosis and a low survival rate due to late diagnosis and limited efficacy of conventional treatments. In recent years nanotechnology has emerged as a promising frontier in the management of lung cancer, presenting novel strategies to enhance drug administration, improve therapeutic efficiency, and mitigate side effects. This research comprehensively evaluates the current state and research trends concerning the application of nanomaterials in lung cancer through bibliometric analysis.Materials and methodsWe employed a systematic approach by retrieving studies from the Scopus database that focused on nanomaterials and lung cancer between 2003 and 2023. Subsequently, we carefully selected relevant articles based on predetermined inclusion criteria. The selected publications were then subjected to bibliometric and visual analysis using softwares such as VOSviewer and Biblioshiny.ResultsA total of 3523 studies that meet inclusion criteria were selected for bibliometric analysis. We observed a progressive increase in the number of annual publications from 2003 to 2023, indicating the growing interest in this field. According to our analysis, China is the primary contributor to publication output among the countries. The “Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China” was the most influential institution. Among the authors, "Dr. Jack A. Roth” and “Dr. Huang Leaf” had the highest number of publications and cited publications, respectively. The “International Journal of Nanomedicine” was found to be the most prolific journal in this field. Additionally, “Biomaterials” emerged as the most cited journal. Through keyword analysis, we identified five main research themes and future research directions; nono-immunotherapy and green synthesis are the hot topics in this research field.ConclusionOur study summarized the key characteristics of publications in this field and identified the most influential countries, institutions, authors, journals, hot topics, and trends related to the application of nanomaterials in lung cancer. These findings contribute to the existing body of knowledge and serve as a foundation for future research endeavors in this area. More effective efforts are needed in this field to reduce the burden of lung cancer and help achieve the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.

Objectives. This study aimed to examine research trends around nature-based tourism, event-based sports tourism, and their relationship with government policies to identify potential opportunities for sustainable sports tourism development in Papua. Materials and methods. The methodological approach comprised using a bibliometric analysis by reviewing 997 scientific articles sourced from Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science databases from 2014-2024. Harzing’s publish or Perish software was used to sort the articles, and VOSViewer software was used to analyze the articles. The review included the number of cluster groups, research themes related to sports tourism in the year groups, research trends around nature-based sports tourism, and gaps in sports tourism development. Results. There were eight cluster groups and five groups. The current research trends in the field of sports tourism comprise event-based sports tourism, nature tourism, the tourism industry, and social media. The research trends related to nature-based sports tourism include six keywords, namely nature-based tourism, nature connectedness, nature sport, nature-based events, nature-based recreation, and nature. Visitors, managers, communities, and governments benefit from the health and economic advantages of nature-based sports tourism. In developing nature-based sports tourism, it is essential to consider the sustainability of nature, cultural characteristics, and the form of activities offered. Local governments need to take part in efforts to develop and preserve nature-based sports tourism. Conclusions. The development of nature-based sports tourism with traditional sports activities has a great opportunity to be enhanced. This innovation certainly needs careful planning from determining goals, human resources, risk factors, and presenting an effective promotional strategies. The involvement of local government can facilitate the implementation of this planning.

The COVID‐19 global pandemic was a socio‐scientific issue (SSI) that had an impact on various aspects of life including education. Educational institutions adapted to new learning, teaching and assessment approaches to be effective in responding to the pandemic. This study aims to determine the research trends and contributions of science education during the COVID‐19 pandemic in order to follow up on possible impacts and other crises in the future. The study involved a narrative systematic literature review of 898 articles published in three selected journals from 2018 to 2021. The analysis was divided into two stages. First, to compare research trends between 2018 and 2019 as the baseline with research trends for 2020–2021 during COVID‐19. Second, to systematically analyse the content of articles published between 2020 and 2021 to explore the contribution of science education amidst COVID‐19 descriptively. The results show that the empirical type of research during the COVID‐19 pandemic has increased compared to the baseline. Research topics on learning contexts dominate the baseline and amidst the pandemic, but ‘teaching’ topics are current and future trends in science education research. The three selected journals contributed many publications related to understanding and resolving the crisis during the COVID‐19 pandemic directly and indirectly. In addition, science education amidst COVID‐19 contributes to preparing the younger generation to become resilient citizens capable of dealing with crises. Direct evidence of preparing resilient citizens amidst the COVID‐19 pandemic is contributed by technological and pedagogical knowledge, content and context knowledge, futurising education, and student mobility programmes in science education. Furthermore, indirect evidence is contributed by science education publications published in the three selected journals between 2020 and 2021. Most publications are carried out at the high school level. More articles in the integrated sciences are published than in separate disciplines such as physics, chemistry, biology and earth/space science. Furthermore, the details of research trends and contributions of science education amidst the COVID‐19 pandemic are discussed.

With the rapid development of digital biomarkers in Parkinson disease (PD) research, it has become increasingly important to explore the current research trends and key areas of focus. This study aimed to comprehensively evaluate the current status, hot spots, and future trends of global PD biomarker research, and provide a systematic review of deep learning models for freezing of gait (FOG) digital biomarkers. This study used bibliometric analysis based on the Web of Science Core Collection database to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the multidimensional landscape of Parkinson digital biomarkers. After identifying research hot spots, the study also followed the PRISMA-ScR (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews) guidelines for a scoping review of deep learning models for FOG from 5 databases: Web of Science, PubMed, IEEE Xplore, Embase, and Google Scholar. A total of 750 studies were included in the bibliometric analysis, and 40 studies were included in the scoping review. The analysis revealed a growing number of related publications, with 3700 researchers contributing. Neurology had the highest average annual participation rate (12.46/19, 66%). The United States contributed the most research (192/1171, 16.4%), with 210 participating institutions, which was the highest among all countries. In the study of deep learning models for FOG, the average accuracy of the models was 0.92, sensitivity was 0.88, specificity was 0.90, and area under the curve was 0.91. In addition, 31 (78%) studies indicated that the best models were primarily convolutional neural networks or convolutional neural networks-based architectures. Research on digital biomarkers for PD is currently at a stable stage of development, with widespread global interest from countries, institutions, and researchers. However, challenges remain, including insufficient interdisciplinary and interinstitutional collaboration, as well as a lack of corporate funding for related projects. Current research trends primarily focus on motor-related studies, particularly FOG monitoring. However, deep learning models for FOG still lack external validation and standardized performance reporting. Future research will likely progress toward deeper applications of artificial intelligence, enhanced interinstitutional collaboration, comprehensive analysis of different data types, and the exploration of digital biomarkers for a broader range of Parkinson symptoms. Maxillofacial skeletal defects lead to functional impairments, aesthetic disfigurement, and psychosocial burdens, while traditional surgical approaches face challenges in precision and personalization. Recent advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies offer potential for enhanced precision and innovation. A bibliometric analysis was conducted to explore the current applications, research trends, and development process of AI and digital technologies in maxillofacial skeletal reconstruction. Five hundred sixteen articles published from 1996 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. Data were analyzed using CiteSpace and VOSviewer to evaluate publication trends, journal/institutional contributions, collaborations, co-citation, and keyword bursts. On average, 17.64 articles were published annually, and this number increased significantly, with a notable surge in AI-related studies post-2022. The Journal of Stomatology Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery ranked highest in publication volume (36 articles), while the Journal of Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery received the most citations (1213). China led in productivity (86 articles), whereas the USA had the most citations (1777). Keyword bursts revealed evolving research focus: early emphasis on rapid prototyping (2008-2016) transitioned to artificial intelligence (2023-2025) and machine learning (2022-2025). Collaborative networks highlighted partnerships among China, Germany, Italy, and the USA. Artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies were revolutionizing maxillofacial reconstruction through enhanced precision and innovation. However, challenges such as data bias, algorithmic transparency, and regional disparities require global collaboration and standardized protocols. Future efforts should prioritize integrating AI tools, diversifying data sets, and expanding inclusion of non-English literature. This study underscored the transformative potential of AI while advocating for equitable technological advancement.

In the digital era, entrepreneurs have begun to leverage ICT and its social capital to overcome obstacles and grow their firms. The idea that digital technology can help address the issues faced by sustainable businesses has gained traction in recent studies. To develop research related to entrepreneurship in the digital era and the potential for new research on this topic. This research used descriptive analysis methods for journal articles indexed in Scopus and Google Scholar. This study investigates the literature using bibliometric analysis methods in five stages: data collection, keyword selection, matrix calculation, result visualization, and data interpretation and visualization results. According to the bibliometric analysis, there were 11 clusters, 161 items, and 447 links with a link strength of 500. Furthermore, according to Scopus and Google Scholar data, most studies on entrepreneurship in the digital era are related to the business environment, pandemics, digital entrepreneurs, digital entrepreneurship ecosystems, digital media, existence, financial literacy, and financial technology. In conclusion, during 2018-2023, there is an increasing trend in digital-era research subjects. Bibliometric analysis, though comprehensive in identifying clusters and connections, may not capture the qualitative nuances and deeper insights within individual studies. This study contributes significantly by mapping the evolving digital entrepreneurship research from to 2018-2023. Through a comprehensive bibliometric analysis, it identifies key research clusters and trends, providing valuable insights for academics, policymakers, and practitioners. The findings illuminate the interconnections between the business environment, pandemic impacts, and technological advancements in digital entrepreneurship.

This book is a collection of 49 independent articles systematically organized and published as volume 3 in a series of books entitled<i>Frontiers in Neuroscience</i>. All of the articles reflect current trends in research on electrical (and magnetic) responses that are detectable noninvasively from the surface of the human body by appropriate stimulation, ie, evoked responses. This area of research depends on the use of electronic computers because they can increase the signal-to-noise ratio sufficiently to detect these relatively small signals, usually a few microvolts or less.
