<p class="p1" style="margin-bottom: 0px; text-align: justify; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-stretch: normal; font-size: 12px; line-height: normal; font-family: &quot;Helvetica Neue&quot;; color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">Inspired by the interdisciplinary nature of optical art, this apparel design research mainly focused on using innovative technologies, laser cutting and digital printing, to apply the art of science to the expression of creative apparel design. The final result was a final collection called “Visual Games.” The three-step design process model developed by LaBat and Sokoloskwi (1999) was used as a framework for the design process and involved. The first step was problem definition and research, which was about solving the main questions for this research project.<span class="Apple-converted-space">&nbsp; </span>The second step was creative exploration, which aimed to involve concept development and experimentation in creating the collection. The final step was implementation, which involved optical motif creation, digital textile printing, and laser cutting. This design research represented innovative technologies that use laser cutting and digital printing techniques to manipulate surface designs that ideally portray the fantasy of optical art.

This paper presents a proposal for the creation of a project management model that incorporates the spatial sustainability within the design process of small satellites. The study includes the product life cycle within the sustainable design process. It will be possible to adopt current international efforts to deal with the problem of solid waste in space for each subsystem of the satellite platforms. The proposed model of the project management space enables planning, evaluation, control, execution and implementation, within the entire mission, strategy development and decision making, based on the principles of sustainability: economics, societal and environmental impact. There is a common acknowledgement that space technology development has thrown contamination beyond the borders of the earth, becoming lately a latent threat for several space activities. The creation of space debris is due to different causes such as the collision of solid objects in space, exploding fuel tanks, meteor impact, malfunctioning satellites and no recovery at the end of its useful life.

This study takes digital modeling technology as the core and explores its application in the innovative design of traditional ethnic clothing.By integrating particle dynamics model, triangular mesh delineation algorithm and dynamic feature point co-tracking technology, three major modules of fiber fabric simulation, garment-human body motion co-tracking and immersive virtual interaction system are constructed.Experimental validation shows that the fabric simulation method based on 3D mesh convolution outperforms the traditional physical simulation and deep learning model in terms of Hausdorff distance error (2.381 mm for flag, 5.318 mm for teapot, 5.343 mm for hanging cloth) and time consumption (3.62 s for flag, 2.84 s for teapot, 3.31 s for hanging cloth), and the efficiency of vertex extraction is improved by 40.5%, which significantly reduces the computational cost.Factor analysis further extracted the three core evaluation factors of "fabric characteristics", "sample structure" and "dynamic effect" (cumulative variance contribution rate of 90.17%).The results of subjective evaluation by users show that the page layout (4.35~4.88ratings by ordinary users and 4.78~4.94ratings by administrators) and the comprehensiveness of functions (4.27~4.84ratings by ordinary users and 4.57~4.88ratings by administrators) of the virtual interactive display system are highly recognized.The research results provide highly efficient technical support for the digital heritage and innovative design of ethnic costumes, with both theoretical and applied values.Index Terms particle dynamics modeling, triangular mesh partitioning, dynamic feature point cooperative tracking, traditional ethnic clothing I. IntroductionTraditional national costume is an important form of national culture, which has the characteristics of both material culture and spiritual culture [1], [2].However, with the rapid development of social economy, national culture has been influenced, eroded and assimilated in the social environment, gradually showing marginalized characteristics, and national costumes are facing the dilemma of being lost [3]- [5].Under the role of information technology, the protection and promotion of national culture has a new direction [6].Digital innovation design for traditional national costumes is the main means to ensure the cultural vitality of national costumes, expand cultural influence and strengthen the role of cultural protection, and it is also the necessary way [7]- [9].From the point of view of national costume culture protection, there is a serious shortage of technical input in China, especially for ethnic minorities that are relatively concentrated in the distribution area, the technical force that can really be invested in cultural protection and cultural development is very limited, and some of the means of cultural protection stays in the aspect of image data retention [10]- [13].Whether it is the collection of cultural phenomena or cultural dissemination, due to fragmentation and unsystematic, greatly affecting the vitality of cultural development [14], [15].In recent years, with the continuous development of science and technology and the continuous updating of the clothing industry, digital modeling technology has gradually become a hot topic in the innovative design of traditional ethnic clothing [16]- [18].Digital modeling technology, is a comprehensive technical system that generates, displays and manages the whole process of clothing design and other information through the computer, through the introduction of digital modeling technology, traditional ethnic clothing can realize the information management of the whole life cycle of apparel design, which not only improves the efficiency of the design and production of traditional ethnic clothing, but also enables the clothing industry to be more environmentally friendly and sustainable development [19]-[22].This research centers on three core modules, namely fabric simulation, dynamic feature tracking and virtual interaction system, to realize the precision, dynamization and immersion of dress design through multidisciplinary cross-methods.Aiming at the complex fabric structure and texture characteristics of traditional national costumes, a fiber fabric simulation method based on particle dynamics and triangular mesh division is proposed.The interweaving process of warp and weft yarns is simulated by particle dynamics model, and the light and shadow

This paper discusses the use of a CFD (computational fluid dynamics) code for the design and optimization processes of a minienvironment mounted on a wafer process tool. The three-dimensional code was used to predict the air velocity flied and pressure distribution in the minienvironment based on a finite volume approach. The geometric model consists of the minienvironment, the tool surface, and the integrated I/O Indexer interfaces. The airflow in the minienvironment (with a conceptual design configuration) was simulated. The results prompted a design change. The new design has a desirable airflow for a more effective minienvironment performance. Particular attention was paid to air recirculation zones that could potentially trap particles generated during the process and to maintaining a positive differential pressure to prevent cross contamination. CFD was shown to be an important step in the design process.

In order to meet the challenges of increasingly diverse clothing styles and consumer demands in the market, traditional fabric design methods have become difficult to meet the needs of rapid iteration and innovation due to their time-consuming, costly, and subjective preferences of designers. In view of this, we propose an innovative fabric design optimization simulation strategy aimed at breaking through these bottlenecks through technological means. This strategy cleverly integrates advanced technologies of variational autoencoder (VAE) and generative adversarial network (GAN). First, VAE is used to capture and learn the complex distribution characteristics of existing clothing fabric designs, which include key information such as fabric texture, color matching, and structural details. Subsequently, GAN uses the hidden vectors obtained from VAE as input to generate brand new fabric design samples. During the training phase, GAN continuously iterates and optimizes, engaging in intense “adversarial” interactions between its generator and discriminator. The generator is dedicated to creating new samples that are as close to real fabric designs as possible, while the discriminator is responsible for identifying the authenticity of these samples. This process is implemented through backpropagation (BP) loss function, ensuring that the generated fabric design can visually simulate real fabrics. Experimental verification shows that this method can not only effectively generate high-quality and realistic clothing fabric designs, but also greatly shorten the design cycle and reduce costs.

Design is a professional activity practiced by designers in various design fields, such as industrial design, graphic design, and interior design. Because the focus ofthe design discipline is changingfrom technological breakthroughs to satisfying users’ needs, many design processes have beenintroduced and adopted to achieve various design objectives. These design processes involve numeroussubprocesses and components that interact to form a comprehensive system. Severalfactors affect the process, causing design outcomes to vary. Design processes no longer conform to the conventional prototype, but conform to a divergent and interactive model thatincorporates new ideas and types of creativity to elicitbreakthroughs and innovations. This study was conducted to understand the relationship between designers’ emotions and every step of the decision-making process, and how these relationships affect the overall design process. Designers can understand the relationships between emotions and design processes.Hence,they would able to develop methods and techniques, for example, they would understand and manag their emotions,in order tomanipulatetheir design processesto be tailored to the required outcomes.

The relation between architecture and building technologies has played a vital role in the development of both disciplines throughout the history. The link between the two is also valid in the present times, as the design and production processes are influenced by computational advances. Considering the use of a particular digital fabrication method, this research intends to look into the design-production relation and attempts to answer the question of how the manufacturing parameters can be integrated into the design process to facilitate the design-to-production communication. It is argued that the above is achievable through the application of a simulation-based algorithmic procedures derived from the inherent logic of a fabrication machine's functionality. The above stated was studied through creation of two custom tools facilitating the design process – namely a library for the Processing programming language and a bespoke design procedure - both based on a functionality of the CNC milling machines. Finally, the conclusion is made that broader implementation of custom design procedures with underlying digital fabrication logic has a potential of altering the design process and facilitate the design-to-factory communication.

Many descriptions of the design process do not include the specifications as part of the process, but rather as an input to the design. Once the specifications are considered to be the input, the assumption is made that they are in a form that is suitable for the design process to proceed. The need for a design always starts with ill-defined objectives. The process by which this information is transformed into well-defined design objectives is called the design specification extraction process. An attempt to expose the underlying structure of the first step in the design process—the design specifications—is presented in this paper. The extraction of specifications is divided into four major tasks—diagnosis or information gathering, interpretation and assessment, classification and decomposition, and information patching. The conceptual framework for the design specification extraction and synthesis is implemented in the expert system program SEISD (specification extraction interface for structural design) developed in the LISP programming language. A few examples are presented to demonstrate the implementation strategies. These examples are drawn from the specific problem of a beam design.

Formative research is often used to inform intervention design, but the design process is rarely reported. This study describes how an integrated home visit intervention for newborns in Ghana was designed. As a first step in the design process, the known intervention parameters were listed, information required to refine the intervention was then identified and a formative research strategy designed. The strategy included synthesizing available data, collecting data on newborn care practices in homes and facilities, on barriers and facilitators to adopting desired behaviors and on practical issues such as whom to include in the intervention. The data were used to develop an intervention plan through workshops with national and international stakeholders and experts. The intervention plan was operationalized by district level committees. This included developing work plans, a creative brief for the materials and completing a community volunteer inventory. The intervention was then piloted and the intervention materials were finalized. The design process took over a year and was iterative. Throughout the process, literature was reviewed to identify the best practice. The intervention focuses on birth preparedness, using treated bednets in pregnancy, early and exclusive breastfeeding, thermal care, special care for small babies and prompt care seeking for newborns with danger signs. The need for a problem-solving approach was identified to help ensure behavior change. A subset of behaviors were already being performed adequately, or were the focus of other interventions, but were important to reinforce in the visits. These include attending antenatal care and care seeking for danger signs in pregnancy. On the basis of the intervention content, the timing of newborn deaths and the acceptability of visits, two antenatal and three visits in the first week of life (days 1, 3 and 7) were planned. Several household members were identified to include in the visits as they were involved in newborn care or they made financial decisions. Birth attendants and health workers were often the locus of control for immediate newborn care, and sensitization activities were designed to improve their practices and to help ensure that families received consistent messages. An existing cadre of community volunteers was identified to deliver the intervention-these volunteers were already trusted and accepted by the community, already visited pregnant women at home and had the time and commitment to deliver the intervention. A supervision and remuneration system was developed through discussions with the volunteers and at the planning workshops. The need for community entry activities was identified to garner community support for the intervention, to encourage self-identification of pregnant and delivered women and to motivate the volunteer through community recognition. Formative research is an essential step in helping to ensure the development of an effective, appropriate and sustainable intervention.

&lt;div&gt;Many interconnected parameters are involved in the helicopter turboshaft engine’s design, implying numerous limitations on the design process. These parameters include the key parameters such as weight, dimensions, power, specific fuel consumption, combustion temperature, air mass flow rate, and compressor pressure ratio, all of which correlate with one another and collectively affect the engine’s design process and consequently the helicopter. The first step in any design process is the &lt;i&gt;conceptual design&lt;/i&gt; stage, where using an initial guess, an iterative parameter estimation runs until convergence. For the initial guess, a database is required, and for estimation, knowledge of the relationships between different parameters is mandatory. Hence, as an effort to help with this process and given that no publicly available database exists for turboshaft engines, in this work, a unique and comprehensive database of turboshaft engines along with novel insights into useful design parameters and their correlations are presented.&lt;/div&gt;

A hologram is described as a 'screenless display' that provides a realism and three-dimensional effect as if seeing a real object, and refers to a technology that implements a three-dimensional stereoscopic image using laser light. These holograms are currently being used in various cultural industries such as performances, exhibitions, and advertisements. In particular, pseudo-holograms such as floating techniques are mainly used in the cultural heritage exhibition field. However, pseudo-holograms can implement the same effect as holograms that show virtual 3D images in the real world, but there are still practical and technical limitations in satisfying audiences who want perfect 3D images like those seen in science fiction movies. The hologram, which is attracting attention as a future high-value-added imaging technology, can naturally reproduce real or virtual objects in a three-dimensional space as if they were real. In addition, holography technology is expected to lead the growth of the immersive content industry in the future by improving the technical limitations of the current augmented reality(AR) or virtual reality(VR). Therefore, if the current holography technology is gradually improved and supplemented with hologram screen, hologram printing, and plenoptic visualization technology, it is expected that the field of digital heritage contents and exhibitions using hologram will further develop in the future.

Traditionally, fabric wrinkle assessment is based on human eyes, which is subjective with the disadvantages of low efficiency and accuracy. In this paper, an objective fabric wrinkle evaluation method was proposed to solve the previous problems due to the subjective evaluation. A self-developed multiple image acquisition system was established for the image capturing of wrinkled fabrics from different direction. Three-dimensional (3D) surface profile of wrinkled fabric was reconstructed by an improved patch-based multi-view stereo vision algorithm. A two-dimensional depth image could be generated directly from the 3D point cloud model, after that, four texture feature parameters were extracted from the depth image using gray level co-occurrence matrix. Finally, these four feature parameters were selected as the input vector and wrinkle grade as the output to form a support vector machine for the objective assessment of fabric wrinkle appearance. Our experimental results indicated that the recognition accuracy of the proposed method and system was more than 90%. The originality of our research is that the wrinkle features based on 3D surface profile reconstructing can avoid interference caused by fabric color and texture and further improve the recognition accuracy of objective evaluation.

Defects in fabrics usually appear as inhomogeneities of fabric texture patterns. Accurate and efficient detection of these inhomogeneities is crucial for fabric manufacturers. Many sophisticated visual inspection methods have been introduced based on texture analysis algorithms. Unfortunately, only few of these are suitable for real-time fabric inspections due to the high computational cost. An efficient and robust fabric defect detection method is proposed in this paper. It is based on the fact that the presence of defects breaks the texture's homogeneity and thereby changes the distribution of microedges in the edge map after the original texture image undergoes edge detection. In the proposed approach, a set of edge operators are introduced to reveal microedges in multiple directions. Local measures of microedge pixel densities are proposed to characterize the underlying fabric texture. A weighted distance derived from normal distribution is exploited to classify the inhomogeneous areas from normal fabrics. The proposed method is implemented on a smart camera using its on-board processing ability to achieve fast inspection. Experimental results on real fabrics demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method.

Implementation of a knowledge-based automated design system: Design of composite space-frame structures

In this paper, the effect of the heat-pipe cooling system design processes on the reliability of the power module in a railway propulsion inverter was investigated. The existing design processes for the heat-pipe cooling system guarantee that the junction temperature of power devices does not exceed the maximum allowable junction temperature when the railway propulsion inverter operates under its mission profile; therefore, each step of the design process was reviewed to analyze the effect of the heat-pipe cooling system. Based on the processes, in the calculation for the required thermal resistance of the heat-pipe cooling system, two difference losses were considered with the thermal resistances of the insulated gate bipolar mode transistor (IGBT) module and the thermal grease at an interface between the baseplate of IGBT module and heat-pipe cooling system. The control scheme and mission profile of the train were taken into account to calculate the power losses. Then, the designed heat-pipe cooling systems were compared in terms of the size and weight. In addition, the junction temperatures and lifetimes of the power module with heat-pipe cooling systems designed by different power losses were estimated and compared. Finally, guidelines for a heat-pipe system cooling design are proposed.
