In this paper, a step by step algorithm is given to design functional unknown input observer for nonlinear discrete time systems under the Polytopic Takagi-Sugeno framework (also known as multiple models systems). Applying the Lyapunov theory and the ℒ 2 attenuation, Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMI)s conditions are deduced which are solved for feasibility to obtain observer design matrices. To reject the effect of unknown input, classical approach of decoupling the unknown input for the linear case is used. A solver based solution is proposed. The novelty of the proposed approach consists in solving simultaneously both structural constraints and LMIs, which ensure a mean for the efficient design of the gains of the observers. To illustrate the proposed theoretical results, an application example of model reference tracking control applied to an electro-mechanical model of a motor with a time varying parameter is discussed.

Analysis of Nonlinear Discrete Time Active Control System with Boring Chatter
In this work we study the design and analysis for nonlinear discrete time active control system with boring charter. It is shown that most analysis result for continuous time nonlinear system can be extended to the discrete time case. In previous studies, a method of nonlinear Model Following Control System (MFCS) was proposed by Okubo (1985). In this study, the method of nonlinear MFCS will be extended to nonlinear discrete time system with boring charter. Nonlinear systems which are dealt in this study have the property of norm constraints ║ƒ (v (k))║≤α + β║v (k)║γ , where α≥0, β≥0, 0≤γ≤1. When 0≤γ<1. It is easy to extend the method to discrete time systems. But in the case γ = 1 discrete time systems, the proof becomes difficult. In this case, a new criterion is proposed to ensure that internal states are stable. We expect that this method will provide a useful tool in areas related to stability analysis and design for nonlinear discrete time systems as well.

We consider the problem of estimating the state and unknown input for a large class of nonlinear systems subject to unknown exogenous inputs. The exogenous inputs themselves are modeled as being generated by a nonlinear system subject to unknown inputs. The nonlinearities considered in this work are characterized by multiplier matrices that include many commonly encountered nonlinearities. We obtain a linear matrix inequality (LMI), that, if feasible, provides the gains for an observer which results in certified $L$ 2 performance of the error dynamics associated with the observer. We also present conditions which guarantee that the $L$ 2 norm of the error can be made arbitrarily small and investigate conditions for feasibility of the proposed LMIs.

This paper considers the reduced-order observer design problem for one-sided Lipschitz nonlinear systems with unknown inputs. The systems under consideration are a larger class of nonlinear systems than the well-studied Lipschitz systems and have inherent advantages with respect to conservativeness. For such systems, we propose a reduced-order unknown input observer (UIO) by using the linear matrix inequality (LMI) technique. Sufficient conditions that guarantee the existence of the reduced-order UIO are established and transformed into the format of LMIs via using the matrix generalized inverse technique. Simulation results are finally given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed design.
Read moreMinimum-order filter design for partial state estimation of linear systems with multiple time-varying state delays and unknown input delays
Designing delay-dependent functional observers for LTI systems with multiple known time-varying state delays and unknown time-varying input delays is studied. The input delays are arbitrary, but the state delays should be upper-bounded. In addition, two scenarios of slow-varying and fast-varying state delays are investigated. The results of the paper can also be considered as one of the first contributions considering unknown-input functional observer design for linear systems with multiple time-varying state delays. Based on the Lyapunov Krasovskii approach, delay-dependent sufficient conditions of the exponential stability of the observer in each scenario are established in terms of linear matrix inequalities. Because of using effective techniques, such as the descriptor transformation and an advanced weighted integral inequality, the proposed stability criteria can result in larger stability regions compared with the other papers that study functional observers for time-varying delay systems. Furthermore, to help with the design procedure, a genetic algorithm-based scheme is proposed to adjust a weighting matrix in the established linear matrix inequalities. Two numerical examples illustrate the design procedure and demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed observer in each scenario. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

In this paper, we consider nonlinear discrete time systems modeled with polytopic uncertain linear systems. We develop the CPWL (Canonical Piecewise Linear) approach proposed by Labit [1] to the case of discrete time systems associated with the new discrete time stability condition proposed by de Oliviera [2] then improved by Daafouz [3]. The obtained linear matrix inequalities condition leads to necessary and sufficient, and less conservative control design condition. This method (Discrete time -CPWL approach and poly-quadratic stability) takes also advantages of the systematic design of robust controllers in one shot and the insuring scheduling for the nonlinear discrete time system control.

This paper considers the observer design problem for one-sided Lipschitz nonlinear systems with unknown inputs. The systems under consideration are a larger class of nonlinearities than the well-studied Lipschitz systems and have inherent advantages with respect to conservativeness. For such systems, we first propose a full-order nonlinear unknown input observer (UIO) by using the linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach. Following a similar design procedure and using state transformation, the reduced-order nonlinear UIO is also constructed. Sufficient conditions to guarantee existence of full-order and reduced-order UIOs are established by carefully considering the one-sided Lipschitz condition together with the quadratic inner-bounded condition. Based on the matrix generalized inverse technique, the UIO conditions are formulated in terms of LMIs. Moreover, the proposed observers are applied to a single-link flexible joint robotic system with unknown inputs. Simulation results are finally given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed design.
Read moreFuzzy Nonlinear Unknown Input Observer Design with Fault Diagnosis Applications
An approach for nonlinear unknown input observer (NUIO) design is proposed for a class of nonlinear systems representable by a Takagi—Sugeno (TS) fuzzy system. The proposed NUIO design for TS fuzzy systems is carried out for two cases: (1) the premise variables do not depend on the unmeasured state variables; and (2) the premise variables depend on the unmeasured state variables. Sufficient conditions for the existence of NUIOs are derived, and a linear matrix inequality (LMI)-based design strategy is presented for NUIO design purposes. The proposed NUIO design approach is then applied to solve actuator fault detection and isolation problems for nonlinear systems described by TS fuzzy systems. To this end, a system structure with two groups of inputs where one group of inputs is treated as unknown inputs is developed. Based on the system structure, a bank of NUIOs are then designed using the developed NUIO design approach in order to investigate the following fault diagnosis problems. (1) How can the NUIOs be used for detecting faults? (2) Under what conditions is it possible to isolate single and/or multiple faults? (3) What is the maximum number of faults that can be isolated simultaneously? (4) How can multiple fault isolation be achieved? In this article we present a NUIO-based fault-detection scheme for problem (1), give sufficient conditions for problem (2), determine the maximum number of faults that can be isolated for problem (3), and propose a fault-diagnosis scheme using a bank of NUIOs to solve problem (4). As an illustrative example, Lorenz’s chaotic system with multi-inputs is chosen to show the effect of the designed NUIOs and the proposed fault detection and isolation scheme. Simulation results show that accurate state estimation is achieved and actuator faults can be detected and isolated successfully.
Read moreOne-Step Prediction for Discrete Time-Varying Nonlinear Systems With Unknown Inputs and Correlated Noises
One of the most important problems in the estimation theory is the one-step prediction. The goal of this problem is to determine the predictions of states in the next time step. This paper focuses on the one-step prediction for nonlinear dynamic systems. The system under investigation involves unknown inputs and the system noises are correlated. In this approach, using the Taylor series expansion for nonlinear functions, a new augmented state nonlinear predictor is proposed for discrete time-varying nonlinear systems. This predictor is obtained by solving a deterministic min-max optimization based on the regularized least squares problem. Moreover, to reduce the computational complexity of the prediction solution, using a nonlinear transformation, we propose a two-stage predictor including lower order estimators for states and unknown inputs. Finally, a frequency modulated signal model is considered to illustrate the effectiveness and performance of the proposed approaches in comparison with the existing estimation methods.

This brief investigates the issue of state estimation and unbounded unknown input reconstruction for a class of one-sided Lipschitz nonlinear interconnected systems with uncertain output and mismatched unknown input distribution matrix. Based on descriptor augmentation strategy and coordinate transformation, the effect of measurement noise and matched unknown input parts are firstly decoupled. Then, a novel multi-intermediate estimator-assisted unknown input observer is constructed to estimate state and mismatched unknown input. In addition, sufficient conditions in linear matrix inequality (LMI) form is derived to guarantee the stability of the observer and to facilitate observer parameter tuning. Finally, a simulation example is provided to illustrate the effectiveness and merits of the proposed methods.

Unknown Input Observer Design for Fuzzy Bilinear System: An LMI Approach
A new method to design a fuzzy bilinear observer (FBO) with unknown inputs is developed for a class of nonlinear systems. The nonlinear system is modeled as a fuzzy bilinear model (FBM). This kind of T‐S fuzzy model is especially suitable for a nonlinear system with a bilinear term. The proposed fuzzy bilinear observer subject to unknown inputs is developed to ensure the asymptotic convergence of the error dynamic using the Lyapunov method. The proposed design conditions are given in linear matrix inequality (LMI) formulation. The paper studies also the problem of fault detection and isolation. An unknown input fuzzy bilinear fault diagnosis observer design is proposed. This work is given for both continuous and discrete cases of fuzzy bilinear models. Illustrative examples are chosen to provide the effectiveness of the given methodology.

This paper studies complete stable and unstable periodic solutions for n-dimensional nonlinear discrete dynamical systems. The positive and negative iterative mappings of discrete systems are used to develop mapping structures of the stable and unstable periodic solutions. The complete bifurcation and stability analysis are presented for the stable and unstable periodic solutions which are based on the positive and negative mapping structures. A comprehensive investigation on the Henon map is carried out for a better understanding of complexity in nonlinear discrete systems. Given is the bifurcation scenario based on positive and negative mappings of the Henon map, and the analytical predictions of the corresponding periodic solutions are achieved. The corresponding eigenvalue analysis of the periodic solutions is presented. The Poincare mapping sections relative to the Neimark bifurcations of periodic solutions are presented. A parameter map for periodic and chaotic solutions is developed. The complete unstable and stable periodic solutions in nonlinear discrete systems are presented for the first time. The results presented in this paper provide a new idea for one to rethink the current existing theories.

In this paper, observer design problem for rectangular discrete-time singular systems with time-varying delay is discussed. Based on restricted system equivalent (RSE) transformations and by introducing new state vectors, the problem is transformed into observer design problem for time-varying delay discrete-time standard state-space systems. By Lyapunov function method and linear matrix inequality (LMI) technique, the delay-dependent sufficient condition that there exists a state observer is established. The design method of matrix is discussed and the coefficient matrices of function observer are given. Finally, a numerical example is given showing the effectiveness of the method given in the paper.
