PurposeThe successful transition towards the circular economy is a requirement of this technological era. The objective of this study is to identify critical success factors behind the successful transition to the circular economy.Design/methodology/approachA systematic literature review and experts' inputs are used to identify the major critical success factors of a successful transition towards a circular economy. Further, DANP is applied to discover the interrelationships among the critical success factors dimensions by analyzing causal relations between the relevant critical success factors. Additionally, the ranking of significant critical success factors for the successful transition towards the circular economy is determined.FindingsThis study has used the DANP methodology to understand the relationships among the five dimensions and the twenty-two critical success factors and identified the key influencing critical success factors through their global weights. Research findings suggest that “vision regard to a circular economy” has the highest weights, followed by “financial sustainability” which is regarded as the most important CSF.Research limitations/implicationsThe outcomes of this work may help organizations on issues related to the transition of the linear economy towards circular economy, in understanding the degree of importance of the each critical success factors, based on which the organizations can formulate an effective strategy to systematically emphasize critical success factors as per their importance for the successful transition towards circular economy.Originality/valueThis study tries to explore and analyze critical success factors of the transition from the linear economy to a circular economy. Further, the finding of this study provides deeper insights into academia and mangers that helps to formulate their action plan for moving towards the circular economy.

To explore cognitions in nurses' professional value and career development amid the COVID-19 pandemic and to analyse influencing factors. A qualitative descriptive study design was employed. Thirty practising nurses from three general hospitals in Chengdu, China, were purposively recruited. Face-to-face semi-structured interviews were conducted. The content analysis was used for data analysis. After the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, there were obvious cognitive changes in nurses' professional value, including improvement in the cognition of professional value, awareness of the broadening of the field of acting professional value, and realization of increasingly high requirements in careers. Approval and gratitude of patients, social recognition and attention, self-awareness of nurses were main influencing factors. For cognitive changes in career development, nurses became more motivated to develop their careers, had a clearer understanding of career development environment, and acquired a clearer understanding of what was needed to advance careers. Hospital support, social respect, family support, and team atmosphere were key influencing factors. The contributions made by nurses in the prevention and control of the COVID-19 pandemic have prompted positive changes in their cognition of professional value and career development. To promote nurses' positive understanding and approach to career development, measures should be taken by hospitals. Further, social respect, family support and team cooperation can enhance nurses' enthusiasm for career development.

In the context of post-apartheid period, there have been certain measures introduced to have employment equity in South Africa. The integration of black leadership in a white dominant companies was one among them. The purpose of this study is to identify the critical success factors that influence black leadership integration as per the reform measures defined after post-apartheid period in South Africa. The overall research question guiding this study is: What are the critical success factors that influence black leadership integration in companies listed on the Johannesburg Securities Exchange? The quantitative correlation research design utilizes a pre-validated survey to access the success factors that influence black leadership integration. To address the research question, the independent variables – corporate culture, leadership style, diversity and strategic leadership behaviours – were correlated with three dependent variables - tenure (years of service), job satisfaction and growth satisfaction (career development opportunities) as measures of successful leadership integration. The study finds statistically significant relationships amongst many of the 32 constructs identified in the literature which using factor analysis are described as fair treatment, job hopping, commitment to transformation, Black entrepreneurship and corporate culture. As defined by Black management, job satisfaction, career development (dependent variables), fair treatment and specific leaders behaviours (inspirational motivation and idealised attributes) (independent variables) as defined by MLQ 5X leadership survey are critical success measures that could influence Black leadership integration in Johannesburg Securities Exchange (JSE) listed companies. The results of this study provide strong evidence of critical success factors that have a statistically significant influence on successful Black leadership integration into historically White dominated South African companies.

A key strategy for advancing a Magnet® recognized (American Nurses Credentialing Center, Sliver Spring, MD) culture of excellence is ongoing staff development. The Magnet Recognition Program® requires that there should be evidence in recognized organizations of the development, dissemination and enculturation of the 14 Forces of Magnetism. Magnet Force 14, Professional Development sets an expectation that organization’s value personal and professional growth, including orientation, career development, formal education and continuing education. Magnet Force 11, Nurses as Teachers expects that nurses be involved in educational activities. Implementation of Magnet Force 8, Consultation and Resources requires that adequate human resources and knowledgeable experts be available to consult and serve as mentors. Houston Methodist Hospital (HMH) has been designated as a Magnet facility since 2002. As the hospital prepared for its fourth Magnet re-designation, a knowledge deficit and learning need was identified resulting not only from the influx of new employees, many of whom had not worked in a Magnet designated organization, but also from the routine preparation that occurs during re-designation. In addition to these learning needs, there was a concern that adding a significant number of new employees could potentially influence the organization’s culture. This article will address the resources and strategies used to engage adult learners in becoming knowledgeable and vested in the Magnet program and their role and responsibilities in this environment to advance a culture of excellence, as defined by the full expression of the 14 Forces of Magnetism.

This study investigated through qualitative design Dr. Dorothy Skeel’s professional career and scholarly development within the sociocultural context and life history that helped shape her ideas and actions to identify patterns in her life which reflected the social structure in which it was imbedded. The research questions guiding this study were: (1)How were significant aspects of Dr. Dorothy Skeel’s life history and professional knowledge represented in her practice? (2)What patterns and changes occurred in Dr Dorothy Skeel’s career development (3) What meanings and possible interpretations can be understood from the patterns and themes in Dr. Dorothy Skeel’s personal and professional life? (4) How might Dr. Dorothy Skeel’s life and work be used in teacher development? The research design employed grounded theory, an inductive method of comparative analysis. After data had been gathered it was coded and stored using Ethnograph (1998), a qualitative software package. Findings related to Dr. Dorothy Skeel’s professional career and scholarship emerged through 1) interview transcripts and 2) analysis of primary and secondary sources related to her writings and professional activities in social studies education and teacher preparation. The findings of the study revealed that Dr. Dorothy Skeel’s career path reflected the challenges women born in the 1930s had to face during the post- WWII period until the early 1970s. Additionally, her scholarship was shaped by important 20th century historical, social, and institutional tensions that impacted curriculum changes in teacher preparation and social studies education. Themes identified in Dr. Dorothy Skeel’s professional development were : Out of the Kitchen: A House Without a Wife- A Degree without the ‘M.R.S.,’ Mother-Lust Satisfaction, Walking The Fine Line In Academe: Balancing Acts, and Beyond Time and Space: The Transcendence of Care. Other themes explored were barriers she faced related to philosophical differences and the value placed on research vs. the scholar of the practice. The benefits and limitations of using biography were discussed along with recommendations for future study.

As the significant success of business enterprises, information system development becomes IT managers' concern to keep the balance between business and information system. The information system has an important role to deliver advantages to the business enterprises. To keep maintain these issues, information system should be developed to innovate the business process. However, in developing an information system, the information system process improvement may obtain the possibility of information system development failures. Therefore, to avoid the failures in implementing information systems there are some important factors. Those factors are called critical success factors (CSF). Therefore, this study observes the critical success factors (CSF) in information system development (ISD) projects. This systematic literature review discusses critical success factors in information system development. The method section determines the research question. It also describes how to collect and filter the data. The order of this research written is according to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses Checklist or also known as PRISMA Checklist. Therefore, to collect and filter the data, this systematic literature review uses Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses method or also known as PRISMA method. There were 20 papers selected to help this research based on the filtering papers due to PRISMA flow diagram. Most of those papers are discussing information system development and the rest are about factors of information system development. The result section has two parts, which are study characteristics and study results. This systematic literature review concluded that there are five critical success factors in developing information system projects. Those critical success factors are people, project, organization, knowledge, and expertise. Those critical success factors are also supported by several items of each factor. Therefore, the output of this research is expected to satisfy the information system development projects to meet the organizations' need and reduce also possibly avoid the failures in information system development projects.

The project management is a subsection of operational management that links to an economic activity. This emphasizes the process of making decisions and operationalising the strategies and tactics to reach the goal through owners, contractors, engineers and consultants within the planned constraints via meeting the schedule. Critical success factors are the bottom line for the successful completion while countering the factors of failure. This research study mainly focuses on relining of blast furnace as a project and so as to identify the critical success factors that influence the project success in a private steel manufacturing company in India. Blast furnaces experience stress in terms of thermal, physical and ware characteristics causing deterioration of the interior blasting architecture. These deformational effects are mitigated through periodic maintenance. The deformation caused by mechanical properties needs to replacement of the lining termed as relining of the shell. Variables for the critical success factors were operationalised through questionnaire survey to identify the critical success factors. Data were collected and evaluated by statistical methods to identify the most critical success factors that influence the project success. The results reveals that project manager related factors are the most important critical success factor for a blast furnace relining project. By taking the critical success factors as important key inputs and fine tuning these factors in such a way project time and cost are saved.

Technological and managerial advances have benefited modern industrial organisations over the last two decades. They strive to become more competitive, cut production costs and produce products that meet quality standards, while also performing at a higher level. Among the most critical factors in these industries is the use of automation technologies that rely heavily on intelligent information processing techniques, dubbed industry 4.0. It is imperative to adopt industry 4.0 technologies to achieve overall manufacturing growth in today’s world. The Indian manufacturing sector’s readiness to adopt Industry 4.0 technologies is a challenge in the current environment. In this context, a literature review, covering Industry 4.0, critical success factors, industry 4.0 readiness and the intention to adopt Industry 4.0 was carried out to build a theoretical framework. The research aimed to identify the critical success factors required to implement industry 4.0 technologies successfully. This study also sheds light on contextual factors, such as Desorptive Capacity, which can be used to investigate the link between Critical Success Factors and industry 4.0 readiness, leading to the intention to adopt industry 4.0 in Indian manufacturing industries.

ABSTRACTOrganizations embarking on implementation of Lean Six Sigma and Six Sigma improvement initiatives need to overcome substantial barriers to ensure effectiveness of the implemented approaches. In many cases, implementation of improvement initiatives involves significant investment in establishment of supporting infrastructure and training for the improvement initiatives. While Lean Six Sigma and Six Sigma were initially applied within large corporations, the interest of small and medium-sized enterprises in improvement initiatives is increasing. Implementation of Lean Six Sigma and Six Sigma faces unique barriers in small and medium-sized enterprises associated with the size and availability of the resources. Thus, the aim of this article is to examine the critical success factors that condition successfulness of Lean Six Sigma and Six Sigma implementation in manufacturing small and medium-sized enterprises. Based on seven articles from six countries (the United Kingdom, India, Italy, Kenya, the Netherlands, and Malaysia), the importance of the different critical success factors are examined and compared. Further, the proposed study examines differences in the importance of the critical success factors between small and medium sized enterprises and large corporations. For the conduct of this analysis, six additional papers from Europe, India, and Brazil concerning critical success factors for the implementation of Six Sigma and Lean Sigma in larger manufacturing enterprises were taken into account. Moreover, five priority groups of critical success factors are developed for both organization sizes based on a percentile distribution. The analysis of the identified groups demonstrates similarities in the critical success factors for both types of organizations. In conclusion, it can be stated that “top management commitment” and “linking Six Sigma to business strategy” are the top priority critical success factors, for both small and medium-sized enterprises and large organizations. Additionally, for small and medium-sized enterprises, it is necessary to develop a good communication plan and link Six Sigma to customers.

This study explores the success factors of concrete recycling in construction projects, using Malaysia as a case study. The objectives include (1) identifying the critical success factors for concrete recycling in construction projects, (2) comparing the critical success factors between large enterprises (LEs) and small–medium enterprises (SMEs), and (3) developing constructs that group the critical success factors. First, a list of success factors was identified through semi-structured interviews with fifteen construction industry professionals and a systematic literature review of journal articles. This list was then incorporated into a questionnaire and disseminated to industry professionals. Eighty-nine valid responses were collected and analyzed using mean score ranking, normalization, agreement analysis, and factor analysis techniques. The analyses showed ten critical success factors for concrete recycling. The critical success factors include the availability of uniform standards for concrete recycling, adequate awareness among project stakeholders on concrete recycling, appropriate construction waste management plans, government policies to support concrete recycling, good marketing strategy for concrete recycling, good communication among employees, applications for recycled concrete in sub-industries, provisions in work method statements on concrete recycling, positive legislation toward concrete recycling, and availability of concrete recycling infrastructure. However, the percentage of agreement between SMEs and LEs for the ten critical success factors was only 22%. In other words, there is no consensus on criticality across organizational sizes. Finally, the critical success factors can be categorized into two interrelated groups: external and internal. This study contributes to the literature by analyzing the necessary success factors for concrete recycling. The study findings allow researchers and practitioners to develop strategies to promote concrete recycling.

There is a strong correlation between practised critical success factors and the efficiency of performance measurement systems in delivering satisfactory service. Construction project success is affected by multiple diminution factors, including critical success factors. Determining success factors is a vital tool that leads to project success. However, application of critical success factors alone is not enough but is necessary as a part of performance measurement systems. Despite the significance of critical success factors in the construction industry and the vast amount of research conducted, Saudi Arabia's construction industry in general and its performance measurement in particular have not yet been investigated. The objectives were to investigate and identify the various attributes that affect the performance of municipal construction projects in Saudi Arabia. The study was carried out through review of previous research and postal questionnaire returns from 261 Saudi municipalities. The field work was conducted for three key participants, namely contractors, owners and consultants, to identify performance measures and critical success factors to design performance measurement systems. The review concentrated on critical success factors, performance measures and obstacles associated with their application. Statistical analysis techniques used were mean values and analysis of variance. The survey concluded that the most important critical success factors for three stages reduced from 69 to 20 factors.

The purpose of this study is to identify factors that hinders the implementation of Quality Management Systems(QMS)in selected Public Health Laboratories. The study population was from the targeted seven accredited Public Health Laboratories in Botswana. Data on critical success factors and their respective elements was collected using a questionnaire. The questions were based on the critical success factors for implementation of total quality management identified during the literature review. Ten Critical Success Factors were rated by a group of questions using a five point Likert scale method. Strongly agree was assigned a score of 5, agree is assigned a score of 4, neutral is assigned a score of 3, disagree is assigned a score of 2 and strongly disagree a score of 1. The mean of the assigned ratings is 3.0. Critical success factors which score mean greater than 3.0 will be classified as agree while those mean less than 3.0 will be classified as disagree. All the ten success factors were deemed critical but four of the critical factors had elements that were regarded as barriers to QMS implementation. The ten critical success factors identified were;Employee empowerment Strategic quality planning, Process management, Performance management, Quality culture, Management and leadership, Training, Supplier Management, Customer focus and Information analysis. On the contrary, four critical success factors had elements that scored less than 3.5 mean, so the elements were regarded as barriers to QMS implementation; Effective communication between management and employees, Staff compensation not linked to achieving quality goals, Employees are rewarded for their performance and Employees not taking part in evaluating suppliers.

PurposeThe application of three-dimensional (3D) printing technology in construction projects is of increasing interest to researchers and construction practitioners. Although the application of 3D printing technology at various stages of the project lifecycle has been explored, few studies have identified the relative importance of critical success factors (CSFs) for implementing 3D printing technology in construction projects. To address this research gap, this study aims to explore the academics (i.e. researchers) and construction practitioners’ perspectives on CSFs for implementing 3D printing technology in construction projects.Design/methodology/approachTo do this, a questionnaire was administered to participants (i.e. academics and construction practitioners) with knowledge and expertise in 3D printing technology in construction projects. The collected data were analysed using mean score ranking, normalization and rank agreement analysis to identify CSFs and determine the consistency of the ranking of CSFs between academics and construction practitioners. In addition, exploratory factor analysis was used to identify the relationships and underlying constructs of the measured CSFs.FindingsThrough a rank agreement analysis of the collected data, 11 CSFs for implementing 3D printing technology were retrieved (i.e. 17% agreement), indicating a diverse agreement in the ranking of the CSFs between academics and construction practitioners. In addition, the results show three key components of CSFs including “production demand enabling CSFs”, “optimize the construction process enabling CSFs” and “optimized design enabling CSFs”.Originality/valueThis study highlights the feasibility of implementing the identified CSFs for 3D printing technology in construction projects, which not only serves as a reference for other researchers but also increases construction practitioners’ awareness of the practical benefits of implementing 3D printing technology in construction projects. Specifically, it would optimize the construction lifecycle processes, enhance digital transformation and promote sustainable construction projects.

A new framework for determining critical success/failure factors in projects

The purpose of this paper is to determine the critical factors that need to be practiced by management of university in successfully implementing the Sustainable Campus Operation (SCO) initiatives at Malaysian universities, as well as to classify the Critical Success Factors (CSFs) into several related groups employing factor analysis function by SPSS software. As much as 23 listed governance success factors items in the questionnaire are constructed based on rigorous literature reviews aligned with the objectives of this study. For this study, judgmental sampling techniques are used and the main target of respondents are individuals who hold administrative posts such as Director, Assistant Director, Head of Department/Unit, Assistant Registrar, and other related posts at the Development and Facility Management Office and Sustainable Campus Department/Unit. The analysis allows the factors formation without any early intervention during questionnaire design work. By referring to the descriptive result, only fourteen (14) out of twenty-three (23) success factors are considered as critical factors. Therefore, based on the results from factor analysis, the fourteen (14) CSFs were then classified appropriately under 2 common groups namely; Governance set up to perform SCO initiatives (GovF) and Accountability to improve performance of SCO initiatives (AccF). This study has important contribution to the researchers in the field of campus management related to sustainability by highlighting the importance of the campus to consider the governance support and accountability in analysing and making decision of any potential initiatives towards green campus operations at Malaysian public universities. In fact, it can be a reference in assisting people involved to recognize exactly what factors are most important in implementing the SCO initiatives towards sustainable universities in Malaysia.
