User requirements and interface design for collaboration research applications using user experience design process

In multi-user collaborative interaction systems, the interface serves not only as a medium for human-computer interaction but also as a crucial channel for communication between users. Consequently, the quality of collaborative interface design directly impacts the overall effectiveness of the system. In collaborative systems, different users typically assume distinct roles, and task flows are typically more complex. Compared to single-user interfaces, multi-user collaborative interfaces must account for a broader range of collaboration requirements and characteristics. Although a substantial body of theoretical and practical research on user interface design exists, design methods specifically for multi-user collaborative interaction interfaces are still lacking. Therefore, this study builds on the existing theories and case studies of collaborative systems, extending user-centered design methods. The study emphasizes the analysis of task flows and role relationships in multi-user collaboration and integrates collaboration needs and characteristics throughout every stage of the interface design process. Ultimately, we propose a methodological framework for interface design tailored to multi-user collaborative interaction systems, aiming to provide theoretical support for the development of more advanced and comprehensive collaborative systems.

The development of software systems that support socio-technical activities, also known as collaborative or groupware systems, has historically been carried out in an ad hoc manner given its particular nature. However, the scientific literature and practical experience have been demanding for more systematization of these developments, due to the increasing need to count on these systems in several application domains, like education, healthcare, tourism, disaster relief and productive activities. In order to shed light on this matter, this paper presents a survey on literature of software strategies to support the development of collaborative systems. The study analyzes, classifies and compares these strategies considering several criteria. The results indicate that there is no development method or strategy that covers the whole lifecycle of these applications, but various of them are complementary, opening thus an opportunity to advance the state-of-the-art in this study domain.

Summarizes a high-level conceptual model of collaborative human-computer systems and describes an empirical study based on the model. The model is the first step in integrating many different ideas and approaches for research in active decision support systems. The development of the model is based on the premise that the designer of such systems must address two fundamental issues: how a collaborative system should behave in order to be effective, and what characteristics of humans and computers will promote increased joint effectiveness. The model integrates research from several areas including MIS/DSS, problem-solving, and cognitive systems engineering, in order to identify some key issues and provide guidelines for new research. The constructs of cognitive coupling and cognitive fit are developed in this paper. Preliminary findings of an empirical study that was designed to study the effects of different types of cognitive fit are presented. >

The development of comprehensive and collaborative service systems for children with serious emotional disturbance and their families from the advocacy of the 1960s to its current status is reviewed. These systems represent a coalition of the child-serving agencies (education, mental health, child welfare, and juvenile justice), health care, the practitioners in these agencies, and the families that they serve. A detailed description of an empirically supported model system operating in Vermont is presented along with other state models. Challenges in creating and maintaining comprehensive and collaborative systems along with recommended strategies for overcoming these challenges are described.

An optical brain-machine interface (O-BMI) system using calcium imaging has various advantages such as high resolution, a comprehensive view of large neural populations, abilities such as long-term stable recording, and applicability to freely behaving animals in neuroscience research. The present study developed an ergonomic user interface (UI) design, based on a use scenario for an O-BMI system that can be used for the acquisition and processing of calcium imaging in freely behaving rodents. The UI design was developed in three steps: (1) identification of design and function requirements of users, (2) establishment of a use scenario, and (3) development of a UI prototype. The UI design requirements were identified by a literature review, a benchmark of existing systems, and a focus group interview with five neuroscience researchers. Then, the use scenario was developed for tasks of data acquisition, feature extraction, and neural decoding for offline and online processing by considering the sequences of operations and needs of users. Lastly, a digital prototype incorporating an information architecture, graphic user interfaces, and simulated functions was fabricated. A usability test was conducted with five neuroscientists (work experience = 3.4 ± 1.1 years) and five ergonomic experts (work experience = 3.6 ± 2.7 years) to compare the digital prototypes with four existing systems (Miniscope, nVista, Mosaic, and Suite2p). The usability testing results showed that the ergonomic UI design was significantly preferred to the UI designs of the existing systems by reducing the task completion time by 10.1% to 70.2% on average, the scan path length by 14.4% to 88.7%, and perceived workload by 12.2% to 37.9%, increasing satisfaction by 11.3% to 74.3% in data acquisition and signal-extraction tasks. The present study demonstrates the significance of the user-centered design approach in the development of a system for neuroscience research. Further research is needed to validate the usability test results of the UI prototype as a corresponding real system is implemented.

Collaborative platform on clustering applications for governments consists of six large-scale systems, including the clustering Government Internet portal system, clustering public-mailboxes collaboration system, clustering government affairs portal system, clustering emergency information collaboration system, clustering office automation collaboration system, and clustering messages collaboration systems. The appli-cation and technology architectures of the collaborative platform are elaborated in this paper，and the major key technologies on the platform are also expounded, which includes realization of many governments ap-plications’ scale integration and collaborative application, business model driven software development plat-form based on SOA, SSO, tans-departmental and cross-level multi-engine clustering protocol. Based on the "clustering application" design, to maximize the utilization of hardware, software resources and administra-tive resources of the provincial government collaborative platform, rural districts and counties can build their own platforms based on the provincial platform. The platform having been running for over 2 years shows that planning of urban and rural e-governments’ construction and maintenance is achieved, thus reducing costs greatly and improving governments’ functions.

In order to facilitate product realisation processes, presently, research is actively being carried out to develop methodologies and technologies to support geographically dispersed teams to organise collaborative design based on the quickly evolving information technologies. A number of research works and commercial systems have appeared to provide solutions for collaborative and distributed product development, and the practical applications are getting more pervasive and mature. In this paper, the recently related works are summarised from three aspects—visualisation-based collaborative systems, co-design collaborative systems and CE (concurrent engineering)-based collaborative systems. Around these aspects, about 100 papers and 30 commercial systems/international standards published or launched recently are discussed. The current research and development statuses and issues, underlying algorithms, mechanisms and system architectures, and the future trends and challenges are explained and compared in detail.

The recent advances in networking have determined an increasing use of information technology to support distributed cooperative applications. Several novel applications have emerged in this area, like computer supported collaborative work (CSCW), large scale distributed virtual worlds, collaborative recommender systems, collaborative learning systems. The definition of these applications requires to afford several challenges, like the definition of user interfaces, of coordination protocols, and of proper middle-ware and architectures supporting distributed cooperation. Collaborative applications may greatly benefits also from the support of P2P and cloud architectures. As a matter of fact, with the emergence of readily available P2P and cloud platforms, collaborative applications developers have the opportunity of deploying their collaborative application by exploiting a hybrid P2P/Cloud architectures with a support dynamically adapting . This brings possibilities to smaller developers that were reserved for the big companies until recently. The integration of mobile/Cloud platforms for Collaborative Applications is another challenge for the widespread of these applications.

In order to realize 3D virtualmonitoring, a collaborative system through integration of cloud computing andmultiagent technology was developed. The system architecture, functional definition, and structure of individual agents were proposed. Moreover, the agent communication and cooperationmechanismswere presented, and a hierarchical algorithmwas designed to solve competition conflicts among the agents. Finally, a prototype system is developed and applied for themonitoring of fullymechanized coal-mining equipment. The application results showed that the proposed system is feasible and efficient.

Social Media platforms are increasing user engagements with their attractive User Interfaces (UI) design playing a crucial role in maintaining user involvement. Use of Emotional Intelligence (EI) into the UI transforming user interaction and engagement pattern significantly. With an emphasis on how design decisions affect user behaviour, this study explores the nuanced function of EIUIs (Emotionally Inteligence User Interfaces) in the context of social media. It specifically draws attention to the dangers of manipulative techniques like "dark patterns"-purposeful interface strategies intended to influence users to take actions they might not have otherwise taken-as well as the possibility of constructive involvement. By investigating these practices, the paper hopes to clarify the wider ethical consequences of interface design as well as the duty of platforms and designers to promote transparency, autonomy, and confidence in digital interactions. This paper aims to contribute to the discourse on user interface design by providing a comprehensive understanding of EIUIs' potential and pitfalls in the context of social media interactions. Additionally, this study focusses on finding information of the pattern of Emotionally Intelligent User Interfaces (EIUI) design to enhance user engagements emotionally and tend to take decisions and the impact of the design pattern in user experience.

An alternative solution for Indosport, considering the increasingly advanced smartphone development and also followed by the rapid growth of its users in Indonesia. The purpose of this study project is to produce a product in the form of a user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) design in helping to realize targeted mobile applications and not forgetting to apply the principles of visual communication design namely unity and variety, hierarchy, contrast, proportion and balance. The UI and UX design methods go through several stages of work in sequence: pre-production process, production process, and post-production. This design results in UI and UX designs that are equipped with user flow, interface designs, illustrations and prototypes. The main page of the Indosport mobile application is News, Activity, Calendar, and Profile which later on these pages there are several features that are different from the previous page. The making of this UI uses several visual languages such as medium close up, full shot, long shot, close up and medium long shot in the image section contained in the article as well as the depiction of field styles used to almost all visual UI elements. Using several principles in design, namely time to learn, speed of performance, rate of errors by users, retention over time, and subjective satisfaction. The resulting design forms will be distributed directly to the Research and Development division and the IT division from Indosport to be made a native.

In recent years cloud computing has taken off and has become an underlying technology in many online applications and websites, whether using a private or public cloud. At the same time with the increase in globalization, online collaborative tools have become very important in order to allow different businesses to communicate with each other, or even different parts of the same company to communicate more easily and share data. Previous work introduced an architecture for a geographically distributed, cloud based collaboration application. While the architecture allowed the scaling up and down of the number of cloud instances being used to host media servers, no control scheme for such cloud scaling was provided. In this paper a model and control scheme for cloud scaling for a collaboration application is provided. The model is based on the leaky bucket model commonly used in network control, while the control system is a self-organizing system. A testbed for the architecture is also presented and used in order to gather performance data from the collaborative application.

Security solution frames and security patterns for authorization in distributed, collaborative systems

In recent years, number of collaborative robots industrial applications has made a significant increasment. Implementation of collaborative robots is a safe and effective way for designing robot-human cooperation systems. Combined with constantly developing artificial intelligence, collaborative systems are actually able to solve complex problems that require some sort of intelligence. For humans, board games are a good example of the visualization of robot intelligence. Such systems require estimation and detection of board and pieces in manipulator workspace, some kind of decision-making algorithms and robot control system to move pieces. The flagship of such systems are chess playing robots. The chess game has a defined and easy to understand set of rules which makes it interesting example of intelligent robotics systems application. In this paper, we present an implementation of collaborative robots for chess playing system which was designed to play against human or another robot. The system is able to track state of the game via camera, calculate the optimal move using implemented decision-making algorithm, detect illegal moves and execute pick-and-place task to physically move pieces. We test the developed system in a real-world setup and provide experimental results documenting the performance of proposed approach.

The purpose of this study is to develop an evaluation methodology for performing the initial evaluation, operational evaluation, and post evaluation of the collaborative information system that will support new product development efforts of domestic mould companies. After all, this system will efficiently support new product development by using the collaborative information system to link goals to performance. For these, we derived the CSFs and KPIs for evaluating the collaborative information system. And, the derived KPIs are applied to the design collaborative information system, the outcome of the e-Manufacturing project, and pre evaluation and post evaluation are conducted. If the web-based evaluation system developed in this study is integrated with the collaborative information system, real-time level evaluation will be possible.
