Utilization of Machine Learning in Brain Tumor Classification

The apparel industry houses a huge amount and variety of data. At every step of the supply chain, data is collected and stored by each supply chain actor. This data, when used intelligently, can help with solving a good deal of problems for the industry. In this regard, this article is devoted to the application of data mining on the industry’s product data, i.e., data related to a garment, such as fabric, trim, print, shape, and form. The purpose of this article is to use data mining and symmetry-based learning techniques on product data to create a classification model that consists of two subsystems: (1) for predicting the garment category and (2) for predicting the garment sub-category. Classification techniques, such as Decision Trees, Naïve Bayes, Random Forest, and Bayesian Forest were applied to the ‘Deep Fashion’ open-source database. The data contain three garment categories, 50 garment sub-categories, and 1000 garment attributes. The two subsystems were first trained individually and then integrated using soft classification. It was observed that the performance of the random forest classifier was comparatively better, with an accuracy of 86%, 73%, 82%, and 90%, respectively, for the garment category, and sub-categories of upper body garment, lower body garment, and whole-body garment.

The trends of data mining on healthcare data for improving medical services have increased because of the electronic healthcare record(EHR) system, which collects a massive amount of data on a daily basis. In the current scenario, hospital maintains its EHR system and stores the detailed information of patients. Data mining for healthcare improvement requires the data from all the EHR systems located at a different location to be stored at the central data mining server. Collection of healthcare data at some untrusted central data mining server raises privacy threats. Healthcare data contains patients’ private information and sharing this information for data mining creates privacy issues. Most of the previous research either focused on k-anonymity technique which causes information loss and decreases data mining accuracy or privacy preserving data mining which is focused on only specific data mining technique. We adopt source anonymous technique as privacy preserving scheme and present a novel scheme for healthcare data collection and mining in this paper. Our scheme collects data from all EHR systems without any information loss and stores at a single central data mining server, also ensuring privacy is preserved. Central data mining server helps to analyze the collected data with different data mining techniques (Association rule mining, Classification, Clustering, etc.) without the involvement of EHR systems. Our scheme is collusion resilient against central data mining server and EHR systems. Theoretical and experimental analysis show the efficiency of our scheme in terms of computation and communication cost. The experimental results using Heart disease dataset show the advantage to EHR systems using the proposed approach in terms of disease prediction accuracy.

This study focuses on predicting which firms will increase capital by issuing new stocks in the near future. Many stakeholders, including banks, credit rating agencies and investors, performs a variety of analyses for firms' growth, profitability, stability, activity, productivity, etc., and regularly report the firms' financial analysis indices. In the paper, we develop predictive models for rights issues using these financial analysis indices and data mining techniques. This study approaches to building the predictive models from the perspective of two different analyses. The first is the analysis period. We divide the analysis period into before and after the IMF financial crisis, and examine whether there is the difference between the two periods. The second is the prediction time. In order to predict when firms increase capital by issuing new stocks, the prediction time is categorized as one year, two years and three years later. Therefore Total six prediction models are developed and analyzed. In this paper, we employ the decision tree technique to build the prediction models for rights issues. The decision tree is the most widely used prediction method which builds decision trees to label or categorize cases into a set of known classes. In contrast to neural networks, logistic regression and SVM, decision tree techniques are well suited for high-dimensional applications and have strong explanation capabilities. There are well-known decision tree induction algorithms such as CHAID, CART, QUEST, C5.0, etc. Among them, we use C5.0 algorithm which is the most recently developed algorithm and yields performance better than other algorithms. We obtained data for the rights issue and financial analysis from TS2000 of Korea Listed Companies Association. A record of financial analysis data is consisted of 89 variables which include 9 growth indices, 30 profitability indices, 23 stability indices, 6 activity indices and 8 productivity indices. For the model building and test, we used 10,925 financial analysis data of total 658 listed firms. PASW Modeler 13 was used to build C5.0 decision trees for the six prediction models. Total 84 variables among financial analysis data are selected as the input variables of each model, and the rights issue status (issued or not issued) is defined as the output variable. To develop prediction models using C5.0 node (Node Options: Output type = Rule set, Use boosting = false, Cross-validate = false, Mode = Simple, Favor = Generality), we used 60% of data for model building and 40% of data for model test. The results of experimental analysis show that the prediction accuracies of data after the IMF financial crisis (59.04% to 60.43%) are about 10 percent higher than ones before IMF financial crisis (68.78% to 71.41%). These results indicate that since the IMF financial crisis, the reliability of financial analysis indices has increased and the firm intention of rights issue has been more obvious. The experiment results also show that the stability-related indices have a major impact on conducting rights issue in the case of short-term prediction. On the other hand, the long-term prediction of conducting rights issue is affected by financial analysis indices on profitability, stability, activity and productivity. All the prediction models include the industry code as one of significant variables. This means that companies in different types of industries show their different types of patterns for rights issue. We conclude that it is desirable for stakeholders to take into account stability-related indices and more various financial analysis indices for short-term prediction and long-term prediction, respectively. The current study has several limitations. First, we need to compare the differences in accuracy by using different data mining techniques such as neural networks, logistic regression and SVM. Second, we are required to develop and to evaluate new prediction models including variables which research in the theory of capital structure has mentioned about the relevance to rights issue.

Education can be utilized as a tool to face many problems, overcome many hurdles in life. The knowledge obtained from education helps to enhance opportunities in one's employment development. To extract useful information from the knowledge obtained, Educational Data Mining is widely used. Educational data mining provides the process of applying different data mining tools and techniques to analyze and visualize the data of an institution (school) and can be used to discover a unique pattern of students' academic performance and behavior. The present work intends to enhance students' academic performance in secondary school using data mining techniques. Real data was collected using school reports and questionnaire method by the Portugal school which has been used in this paper. Naive Bayesian algorithm can be easily implemented to predict the students' academic performance and behavior. Classification of students into two classes, pass and fail, involves training phase and testing phase. In training phase, Naive Bayes classifier is built and in the testing phase, Naive Bayes classifier is used to make the prediction. The accuracy of the classifier is calculated using WEKA tool in which confusion matrix is generated. The accuracy of the classifier obtained is 87% which can be further improved by the selection of appropriate attributes. Developing the classification algorithms in this way helps to obtain a more efficient student performance predictor tool using other data mining algorithms and it also helps to improve the quality of education in an educational institution.

Data mining techniques play a crucial role in extracting meaningful patterns from large volumes of financial datasets, contributing to the development of predictive modeling techniques. The purpose of this paper is to explore the application of various data mining techniques in predictive analytics within the financial sector, with a focus on their effectiveness in risk management, fraud detection, and portfolio optimization. Machine learning algorithms, such as decision trees, support vector machines, and neural networks, are increasingly being employed to model complex financial systems and enhance predictive accuracy. Additionally, techniques like clustering, association rule mining, and time series analysis are used to uncover hidden relationships and temporal patterns in financial datasets. Despite the significant advancements in these techniques, challenges remain in terms of data quality, computational complexity, and interpretability of results. This paper addresses these challenges and provides a comprehensive review of the most widely used data mining methods in financial engineering. Furthermore, it discusses the potential for future advancements in data mining algorithms and their integration with other emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and big data analytics. The findings indicate that while data mining offers significant potential in financial analytics, careful consideration must be given to the selection of appropriate techniques and the proper handling of data to ensure reliable predictions. Ultimately, this paper aims to contribute to the ongoing development of robust predictive modeling techniques in financial engineering by emphasizing the importance of data mining as an indispensable tool.

This research study analyzes the different data mining techniques used for the detection of credit card frauds. Additionally, different data mining techniques are properly described in this study. The steps of data mining are clearly explained in this study, which are helpful for recognizing the fraudulent activities. This study is discussing that Bayesian network, and decision tree are the effective techniques of data mining. The issues of data mining are also discussed in this study, which is creating performance issues, and user interaction issues in the financial institutions. Therefore, this study is providing the importance of RF algorithm in the determination of the credit card fraud. Data cleaning, and data visualization, therefore, the machine learning process is allowed to be developed with the support of the data mining process of credit cards. Clustering is the main process that is takes place in this data mining process. Additionally, the sequential pattern is being highlighted by this process, which helps to improve the fraud detection process of credit cards.

Healthiness is the most precise thing in human life. But due to several facts like unhealthy diets, physical inactivity, high blood pressure, smoking habits, etc. health diseases are increasing day by day. Among them heart diseases are the major causes of death. Risk factors like high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, irregular pulse rate, diabetes, eating habits, age being a major support for occurring heart diseases. Due to the lack of accurate medical support systems which are capable enough to find hidden patterns of medical data and predict diseases, people unable to know the occurrence of diseases in advance. This paper presents a survey about different data mining and neural network classification technologies used in predicting the risk of occurring heart diseases based on risk factors. The risk level of a person is classifying using techniques like K-Nearest Neighbor Algorithm, Decision Trees, Genetic algorithm, Naïve Bayes etc. and the accuracy is high when using more attributes and combinations of above techniques.

There are various data mining techniques that are frequently used for the mining of vital patterns embedded within bulk data. These techniques include neural network, regression analysis, rough set theory, Bayesian network, decision trees, and so on. In this research, a novel data mining technique, genetically guided cluster based fuzzy decision tree (GCFDT), is introduced for the mining task. In order to test the efficacy of GCFDT, it is employed for building the predictive process models of reactive ion etching (RIE) with the aid of optical emission spectroscopy (OES) signals. This model endeavors to predict the wafer surface conditions for the new incoming set of process parameters. OES is an efficient tool for monitoring plasma emission intensity. In contrast with the C-fuzzy decision tree where granules are devolved through fuzzy clustering here, granulation is practised through genetically guided fuzzy clustering. The growth of the tree is governed by expanding the node having highest diversity. The results obtained by employing CGFDT in RIE process modeling reveal that it dominates both the traditional C-fuzzy decision trees and C4.5 decision trees in terms of both the accuracy and compactness.

Heart disease is one of the major causes of life complicacies and subsequently leading to death. The heart disease diagnosis and treatment are very complex, especially in the developing countries, due to the rare availability of efficient diagnostic tools and shortage of medical professionals and other resources which affect proper prediction and treatment of patients. Inadequate preventive measures, lack of experienced or unskilled medical professionals in the field are the leading contributing factors. Although, large proportion of heart diseases is preventable but they continue to rise mainly because preventive measures are inadequate. In today’s digital world, several clinical decision support systems on heart disease prediction have been developed by different scholars to simplify and ensure efficient diagnosis. This paper investigates the state of the art of various clinical decision support systems for heart disease prediction, proposed by various researchers using data mining and machine learning techniques. Classification algorithms such as the Naïve Bayes (NB), Decision Tree (DT), and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) have been widely employed to predict heart diseases, where various accuracies were obtained. Hence, only a marginal success is achieved in the creation of such predictive models for heart disease patients therefore, there is need for more complex models that incorporate multiple geographically diverse data sources to increase the accuracy of predicting the early onset of the disease.

The escalating threat of fraud in financial institutions is a global issue, with the Malaysian sector being no exception. This study focuses on the implementation and efficacy of Data Mining and Machine Learning methodologies in identifying and mitigating fraudulent activities within these institutions. The paper critically reviews existing literature, bridging the gap between advanced technology application and fraud management. Fraudulent transactions in the financial sector are dynamic and sophisticated, requiring advanced detection techniques. Traditional approaches often struggle to manage this complexity effectively, demonstrating a need for more advanced and adaptive strategies. This is where Data Mining and Machine Learning techniques, renowned for their predictive and analytical prowess, can significantly contribute. Data Mining, the process of uncovering patterns and correlations within large datasets, is a useful tool for detecting anomalies that may suggest fraud. The study assesses various data mining techniques, such as clustering, classification, and association, and explores their application in detecting fraudulent transactions. Findings indicate that these techniques can substantially enhance fraud detection rates while minimizing false positives. Furthermore, Machine Learning, an artificial intelligence subset, has shown immense potential in fraud detection. Its ability to learn from and make decisions based on data makes it a viable solution for fraud detection. This paper explores both supervised and unsupervised learning algorithms and their efficacy in identifying fraud in the Malaysian financial sector. Results suggest that machine learning models, when correctly implemented, can significantly improve the accuracy of fraud detection. The review underscores the importance of employing advanced technologies like Data Mining and Machine Learning to combat financial fraud effectively. It also suggests future research directions, emphasizing the need for context-specific, localized models considering Malaysia's unique socio-economic environment. Moreover, the development of hybrid models, integrating both data mining and machine learning, could offer improved results. In conclusion, this study sets a precedent for further exploration into the application of advanced analytical tools in fraud detection in the Malaysian financial sector. The potential these technologies offer for improving accuracy and adaptability in fraud detection systems is substantial and warrants thorough investigation. Medical diagnosis is a most important problem in medical data mining. The possible errors of a physician can reduce with the help of data mining techniques. The goal of this chapter is to analyze and compare predictive data mining techniques in the medical diagnosis. To this purpose, various data mining techniques such as decision tree, neural networks, support vector machine, and lazy modelling are considered. Results show data mining techniques can considerably help a physician.

Data mining and machine learning techniques can be applied to computer system design to aid in optimizing design decisions, improving system runtime performance. Data mining techniques have been investigated in the context of branch prediction. Specifically, a comparison of traditional branch predictor performance has been made to data mining algorithms. Additionally, the possiblity of whether additional features available within the architectural state might serve to further improve branch prediction has been evaluated. Results show that data mining techniques indicate potential for improved branch prediction, especially when register file contents are included as a feature set.

Metabolic syndrome (MS) is a condition associated with metabolic abnormalities that are characterized by central obesity (e.g. waist circumference or body mass index), hypertension (e.g. systolic or diastolic blood pressure), hyperglycemia (e.g. fasting plasma glucose) and dyslipidemia (e.g. triglyceride and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol). It is also associated with the development of diabetes mellitus (DM) type 2 and cardiovascular disease (CVD). Therefore, the rapid identification of MS is required to prevent the occurrence of such diseases. Herein, we review the utilization of data mining approaches for MS identification. Furthermore, the concept of quantitative population-health relationship (QPHR) is also presented, which can be defined as the elucidation/understanding of the relationship that exists between health parameters and health status. The QPHR modeling uses data mining techniques such as artificial neural network (ANN), support vector machine (SVM), principal component analysis (PCA), decision tree (DT), random forest (RF) and association analysis (AA) for modeling and construction of predictive models for MS characterization. The DT method has been found to outperform other data mining techniques in the identification of MS status. Moreover, the AA technique has proved useful in the discovery of in-depth as well as frequently occurring health parameters that can be used for revealing the rules of MS development. This review presents the potential benefits on the applications of data mining as a rapid identification tool for classifying MS.

This chapter is interested in discussing how to use data mining techniques to assist in achieving an acceptable level of quality of service of telecommunication systems. The quality of service is defined as the metrics which are predicated by using the data mining techniques, decision tree, association rules and neural networks. Routing algorithms can use this metric for optimal path selection which in turn will affect positively on the system performance. Also, in this chapter management axis using data mining techniques were handled, i.e., check the status of the telecommunication networks, role of data mining in obtaining optimal configuration, how to use data mining technique to assure high level of security for the telecommunication. The popularity of data mining in the telecommunications industry can be viewed as an extension of the use of expert systems in the telecommunications industry. These systems were developed to address the complexity associated with maintaining a huge network infrastructure and the need to maximize network reliability while minimizing labor costs (Liebowitz, J. 1988). The problem with these expert systems is that they are expensive to develop because it is both difficult and time consuming to elicit the requisite domain knowledge from experts.
