Abstract

The work described herein estimates the axial pile capacity subjected to consolidation setup and aging. Two models were developed for clay and sand to estimate aging setup based on the data collected from the literature where piles have been tested at different times after the excess pore pressure dissipation. One model for clay was developed based on Louisiana database comprising 10 instrumented piles to quantify the consolidation setup. A separation before and after excess pore water pressure indicates that aging takes place after the excess pore water pressure. The best 8 direct CPT methods evaluated by previous researchers were used in this study. The results indicate that the CPT methods were capable of estimating side capacity considering consolidation setup (more than or less than 14 days) without any modification. Regarding Aging, the results show that all pile CPT methods evaluated underestimate the pile capacity and the accuracy of these methods increases by applying the aging databases for both sand and clays.
