VIEWS ON THE MANIFESTATION OF LOCAL WISDOM (CASE: KAMPUNG NAGA, WEST JAVA)

Background: Food security is essential for social and economic sustainability, relying on the management of natural resources and local culture. Kampung Naga and Kasepuhan Ciptagelar are indigenous communities in West Java that maintain food security through traditional, locally rooted agricultural practices. This study explores how local wisdom contributes to food security and how these practices can inform national policy. Methods: The methodology employed is a case study using a qualitative approach through literature review. Findings: The findings indicate that the local wisdom practiced in Kampung Naga and Ciptagelar—such as the use of natural technologies, cultivation of local rice varieties, and traditional irrigation systems—is effective in maintaining food security. This system is not only ecologically sustainable but also strengthens the social resilience of the community. The study recommends that national food security policies should recognize and integrate local wisdom values as a foundation for sustainable development. Conclusion: The indigenous communities of Kampung Naga and Kasepuhan Ciptagelar maintain food security through environmentally friendly traditional agricultural methods. These practices demonstrate that the integration of local wisdom and modern science can sustainably strengthen food security. Novelty/Originality of this article: This article introduces a unique perspective by highlighting how traditional ecological knowledge and local wisdom in Kampung Naga and Kasepuhan Ciptagelar function as effective, sustainable models for food security amid modern pressures and climate change. Unlike most policy studies, it innovatively advocates the integration of indigenous agricultural practices into national food security strategies, demonstrating the viability of cultural sustainability as a pillar of regional and national resilience

This paper explains about culture of local wisdom of Kampung Kuta and the indigenous community for a long time ago, which is facing adaptive climate changes in Ciamis Regency, West Java. Local wisdom has a strategic role to give a contribution in adding an insight and environmental knowledge, in case facing climate changes. A set of problems that can be examined in this research study covers : Identification kind of relevant local wisdom to face climate changes, the role of local wisdom in facing climate changes, adaptation pattern of community in facing climate changes. The research method that is used is a qualitative methods and the ethnography approach. The source of data in the research and information are obtained directly by an informant as oral data about the different forms of local wisdom and data about various cultural events. Data has been analyzed and examined validating using triangulation technique to collect and source data. Based on analysis that have been done indicates that local wisdom values in Kampung Kuta has some character, those are very selective, well mannered, give priority to harmony, future oriented. Form of that local wisdom is integrated in knowledge, conviction, understanding or insight, custom and ethic. The form of local wisdom that relevant in facing climate changes can be seen by its instilling principles to love the environment, caring and maintaining the environment, overseeing and conserving the environment. The role of local wisdom values of Kampung Kuta community in facing climate changes in utilizing natural resourches, applying taboo in conserving the forest, applying taboo in daily activity. Integration pattern of local wisdom values of Kampung Kuta community on practicing cultural adaptation to face climate changes is implement traditional ceremonies, build house.

This study analyzes the application of local community wisdom in riverbank erosion conservation in Desa Pulau Terap, Kecamatan Kuok, Kabupaten Kampar, Riau Province. The research aims to identify and analyze: (1) forms of local wisdom in riverbank erosion conservation, (2) factors inhibiting its implementation, and (3) efforts to mitigate erosion threats based on local wisdom. A qualitative approach was used, with informants selected through purposive sampling. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of data collection, reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that local wisdom has been applied through two methods: vegetative techniques and traditional civil engineering using floating fish cages (keramba apung) along the river. Inhibiting factors include waste disposal into the river, land-use changes around the riverbanks, and unregulated sand and stone mining activities. Community and village government efforts to reduce erosion threats include issuing warnings, enforcing sanctions, and conducting outreach programs by village officials and niniok mamak (traditional leaders), both verbally and in writing, to raise public awareness of the importance of preserving the river environment. These findings confirm that integrating local wisdom into environmental conservation can serve as an effective strategy for sustainable natural resource management.

This study aims to design a conceptual strategy and visual simulation for the use of Augmented Reality (AR) as a medium for wayfinding and cultural education in Kampung Naga, a traditional village in West Java that strictly preserves its cultural heritage. The lack of spatial and cultural information available to visitors, due to local restrictions on digital infrastructure, highlights the need for an innovative approach that respects local customs. Employing a qualitative-critical method through observation and literature review, this research proposes a simulated AR interface design featuring interactive navigation, culturally integrated non-invasive markers, and educational overlays about local architecture and performing arts such as Terbang Gembrung. The results suggest that a context-aware, adaptive, and non-intrusive AR design can enhance the visitor experience while preserving the authenticity of traditional spaces. This study recommends AR integration as an educational and navigational solution for sustainable and culturally respectful heritage tourism development.

The Kampung Naga indigenous community in West Java exemplifies a conservation model based on local wisdom. For centuries, they have protected a 50-hectare Forbidden Forest. This study aims to examine the Kampung Naga Forbidden Forest as a socio-ecological adaptation system in response to global disruption. Through a qualitative literature review, the study found that this forest, protected by customary laws such as logging prohibitions and the leuit (communal rice barn) system, plays a crucial role in conserving biodiversity, water management, and food security. The study found that this forest conserves 85% of endemic plant species and absorbs millions of liters of rainwater annually. However, increasing external pressures, such as infrastructure development, mass tourism, and the decline of traditional ecological knowledge over generations, have begun to erode its sacred value and sustainability. Traditional rituals such as Sedekah Bumi (Earth Almsgiving) have been commercialized into paid festivals, while youth engagement in ecological customs such as ngaruat (alms-giving rituals) has declined drastically. Using Cultural Ecology and the Social Construction of Reality as theoretical frameworks, this study argues that Kampung Naga's resilience stems from its ability to integrate ancestral beliefs with modern legal instruments and frameworks. The study concludes that the Forbidden Forest is not only a conservation area, but also a cultural and spiritual landscape shaped by the practices of indigenous communities over generations. Tasikmalaya Regency is one of the areas in West Java Province which has a type of cultural tourism as its attraction. The type of potential cultural tourism in this regency is located in the Traditional Dragon Village Area, precisely in Neglasari Village, Salawu District. Kampung Naga is an area where the people still hold the beliefs or customs of their ancestors. The large number of tourists visiting Kampung Naga will have a positive or negative impact on this tradition. The purpose of this study is to identify the impact of tourism development on the life of the indigenous people of Kampung Naga, especially in implementing its traditions. The presence of tourists can affect the traditional life and culture of the local community, therefore it is necessary to have research on changes in the implementation of traditions (customs and customs) after the presence of tourists in the Kampung Naga area. The analytical method used is descriptive qualitative data analysis using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman. Based on this analysis, there are several changes in the implementation of the tradition as an impact felt by the local community after the development of tourism. The results of this identification are expected to be considered in tourism planning and development related to tourism policies and the ecosystem therein. Because by implementing a good and appropriate policy, the potential of the existing tourism area can run optimally by minimizing the negative impact on humans.

This research was conducted upon the ability of people living in Aceh, especially in the city of Langsa, to maintain and preserve local culture and wisdom in the modern era, when mass media massively infuses and affect the society. Local wisdom, as it protects people of bad impact from social media, may be developed as a literacy model for literacy education and literacy of media. This research aimed to analyze Acehnese local wisdom existing within people living in Langsa and to describe media literacy based on local wisdom. A qualitative approach was applied by means of ethnographic research. The data were collected using observation through relating documents. The data were analyzed through several stages: describing Acehnese local wisdom existing within media, classifying data, analyzing data, and describing media literacy model based on local wisdom. The result indicated that people living in Langsa was not able to actively utilized the local wisdom upon media. It occurred because they were just passive users of social media; there was also a lack of support from the government in educating people to be smart users. Then, the media literacy model utilizing local wisdom encompassed the ability to access, to analyze, to evaluate, and to produce the message.

Kemiren Village is one of tourist villages. It is located in the eastern tip of East Java province. It was chosen as the traditional tourism village of the Osing tribe because Kemiren village was still very substantial in maintaining the preservation of Osing customs, traditions, arts and culture, and the pattern of the social life of its people. This form of local wisdom was manifested in various aspects of life, both in the sacred and profane realms. Various traditional rituals continued today, such as the barong ider bumi ritual, tumpeng sewu, ten ewu coffee and the gedhogan festival which conveyed the meaning of gratitude for crops, asking for protection from epidemics and diseases as well as brotherhood with fellow villagers and guests who attend the event. The people of Osing Kemiren village have still maintained the preservation of customary law to this day, both in matters of marriage and inheritance. The information technology era that was currently developing has had a positive effect on the people of Osing Kemiren village, namely to promote Osing Kemiren village as a tourist village, as well as to encourage progress in other public services. However, it does not affect behavior in daily life as well as customary laws and habits that apply among the Kemiren village community. This study aims to determine the implementation of local wisdom-based schools at SDN 49 Liano, Kec. Mataoleo, Kab. Bombana; know the understanding of school principals, school developers and teachers about local wisdom-based school development; knowing the form of local wisdom being developed; and the local wisdom-based school development strategy implemented and the impact of its implementation on students at SDN 49 Liano. This study used a qualitative descriptive method with data checking techniques using triagulation techniques and data sources. The results showed that the understanding of the meaning of school based on local wisdom between the principal, the development team and the teacher was the same, namely the condition of the school which applied local wisdom in a learning atmosphere. Local wisdom applied at SDN 49 Liano, Kec. Mataoleo includes language, arts and culinary specialties. SDN 49 Liano, Kec. Mataoleo uses five strategies in local wisdom-based school development, namely preparing an agenda for teaching the priorities of local wisdom values, preparing supporting facilities, implementing implementation strategies, collaborating with outsiders, and establishing cooperation with the community. The form of implementing school based on local wisdom at SDN 49 Liano, Kec. Mataoleo can be seen from the integration of local wisdom in learning and extracurricular activities.

 Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui implementasi sekolah berbasis kearifan lokal di SDN 49 Liano, Kec. Mataoleo, Kab. Bombana; mengetahuai pemahaman kepala sekolah, pengembang sekolah dan guru tentang pengembangan sekolah berbasis kearifan lokal; mengetahui bentuk kearifan lokal yang dikembangkan; dan strategi pengembangan sekolah berbasis kearifan lokal yang diterapkan serta dampak dari implementasinya terhadap peserta didik di SDN 49 Liano. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik pemeriksaan data dengan menggunakan triagulasi teknik dan sumber data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemahaman pengertian sekolah berbasis kearifan lokal antara kepala sekolah, tim pengembang dan guru sama, yaitu kondisi sekolah yang menerapkan kearifan lokal dalam suasana pembelajaran. Kearifan lokal yang diterapkan di SDN 49 Liano, Kec. Mataoleo di antaranya adalah bahasa, seni dan kuliner khas daerah. SDN 49 Liano, Kec. Mataoleo menggunakan lima strategi dalam pengembangan sekolah berbasis kearifan lokal yaitu menyusun agenda pengajaran perioritas nilai-nilai luhur kearifan lokal, menyiapkan fasilitas penunjang, melakukan strategi pelaksanaan, melakukan kerjasama dengan pihak luar, dan menjalin kerjasama dengan masyarakat. Bentuk implementasi sekolah berbasis kearifan lokal di SDN 49 Liano, Kec. Mataoleo dapat dilihat dari pengintegrasian kearifan lokal dalam pembelajaran dan kegiatan ekstrakurikuler.

This study aims to analyze the values of the hadith of the Prophet who lived in the Kampung Naga tradition. This study applies a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical method through a field study based on the interpretation of the living sunnah. The results and discussion of this study found that the living sunnah in the Kampung Naga tradition lies in the rituals of pregnant women, birth of children, circumcision, gusaran, marriage, inheritance, blessings, death prayers, Hajat Sasih after Eid prayer, and others. The study concludes that the living sunnah is relevant to be applied considering that the Kampung Naga tradition is a crystallization of Islam and Sundanese local wisdom as an ancestral heritage. Living sunnah is able to explore the values of hadith that live in the Kampung Naga tradition without syncretic stigmatization of rituals that are considered incompatible with Islamic law. <p>Local wisdom as part of the cultural values possessed by certain communities is considered as a form of defense of culture against incoming foreign cultures. This study aims to describe (1) the aspects of local wisdom in Serat Menak Lare; (2) the most prominent cultural aspects contained in Serat Menak Lare; (3) the relevance of Serat Menak Lare with Indonesian language learning in senior high school. The research type was descriptive qualitative study with an anthropological literary study approach. The source of data was taken from the book Menak Lare I-IV by R. Ng. Yasadipura I which has been transliterated and translated by Sulistijo HS. The data collection technique used is intensive reading and note-taking. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling which is analyzed by interactive analysis model. The results of the research in the form of local wisdom contained in Serat Menak Lare can be identified in the form of the names of figures, animals, plants, and adjustments to the description of the place setting. The cultural aspects that stand out in Serat Menak Lare are the system of tools and equipment for human life, the arts, and the religious system. Equipment that is often found is palace equipment and war equipment. Local wisdom in the arts is in the form of gamelan musical instruments, dance, and Javanese-style architecture. The religious system found is the nuances of the Islamic religion. Furthermore, Serat Menak Lare is very relevant to be used as an alternative study material of Indonesian language learning in high school/equivalent.</p><p>Keywords: local wisdom, Menak Lare, literary anthropology</p>

Local wisdom-based learning is one of the innovative approaches in science education that enhances the relevance of scientific knowledge to everyday life. One form of local wisdom that can be studied from an ethnoscientific perspective is the production of durian tempoyak in Indragiri Hilir, Riau. The fermentation process of durian tempoyak involves scientific concepts in biology and chemistry, such as microorganism activity, fermentation reactions, and changes in food's physical and chemical properties. However, research on integrating local wisdom into science education remains very limited. This study aims to analyze local wisdom in the production of durian tempoyak from a scientific perspective. Data were collected through interviews with informants selected using the snowball sampling method. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman qualitative approach. The research findings indicate that the Malay community continues to preserve the tradition of making durian tempoyak. The production process includes preparing materials and tools, fermentation stages, and its benefits in science learning. In conclusion, exploring ethnoscience in durian tempoyak production provides an opportunity to link science with local culture, particularly in biotechnology. Integrating local wisdom into science education will enhance students’ appreciation of culture and develop 21st-century skills.

The COVID-19 pandemic has entered a new phase with the discovery of new variants from several countries entering Indonesia. This epidemic is capable of destroying the joints of people's lives, such as health, education, politics, economics, social, culture, politics to the point of disrupting regional resilience. Various efforts have been made by the government in the context of dealing with COVID-19 which cannot be ascertained to end. This research has the aim of analyzing the other side of the COVID-19 pandemic in the form of local wisdom. This study uses descriptive qualitative data obtained through interviews, observation, and documentation. The analytical technique used is the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana model. The results of this study indicate that the local wisdom ofBalla Ewakohas the meaning of a tough house in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.Balla Ewakois a tough village program by the South Sulawesi Regional Police which later became a movement for the community in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic based on local wisdom. TheBalla Ewakoprogram has the goal of a strong village for health, food resilience. and security with direct community involvement.Balla Ewakohas proven to be effective in tackling the COVID-19 pandemic by mobilizing all elements of the grassroots community.

Nyadran is an activity that is carried out in fishing communities with the themes of salvation in the sea and praying at ancestors’ tombs. Every year, the nyadran Bluru village community performs these rituals as an expression of gratitude and hope for salvation and blessings from God Almighty. The purpose of this study was to examine the significance of women’s roles in the preservation of nyadran traditions, which are recognized as a form of local wisdom in the city of Sidoarjo. Qualitative methods were used with a case study approach. 20 women participated, and the informants consisted of members of the Bluru village community, community leaders, organizers, and 20 female fisher families. Observations, interviews, focus group discussions, and document analysis were used to collect the data and triangulation was carried out. The findings revealed that women play an important role in the preservation of nyadran local wisdom by preparing objects of salvation in the sea, preparing special food for ritual nyadran practices such as grilled chicken, kupat lepet, and plantain, all of which have symbolic value, and encouraging sons and daughters, other family, and friends in carrying out the tradition.
