Visualizing the Invisible Nanoscale

Resumen En este documento nos interesa abordar el problema de la enseñanza del álgebra bajo el punto de vista del marco teórico de los Espacios de Trabajo Matemático (ETM). En nuestro estudio, realizamos dos experimentaciones, una en Québec y otra en México. En la investigación, hemos considerando la visualización que se pone en marcha, una vez que el individuo comunica sus ideas a otros (o a sí mismo), y construye relaciones entre los elementos en juego, incluyendo articulaciones entre representaciones. La evolución de estas construcciones cognitivas dentro de una perspectiva de los procesos de significación, necesita de experiencias compartidas, en lo que nosotros hemos designado como una enseñanza y aprendizaje en colaboración, debate científico y autorreflexión (ACODESA), bajo el punto de vista de la teoría de la actividad. Específicamente, se investiga en torno a los números poligonales (en especial los números triangulares), en un ambiente de papel, lápiz y tecnología. Nuestra interpretación sobre los procesos cognitivos de una población de alumnos (14-15 años) de una escuela secundaria en México siguen el marco teórico de los ETM. Esta interpretación se centra en el paso de un plano epistemológico hacia un plano cognitivo en donde la actividad matemática permite una articulación de procesos de visualización, producción y procesos de validación aritmético-algebraicos que proporcionan un suporte precisamente a un pensamiento aritmético-algebraico.

Visual process monitoring is the application of a visualization method to map the real-time operating information of an industrial process to a 2-D map, followed by process monitoring. However, owing to the complexity of industrial production processes and the complex correlations among industrial process variables, the structure and distribution of high-dimensional industrial data are very complicated. Therefore, a general visualization method cannot effectively separate the different fault data in a 2-D map for process monitoring. Accordingly, in this article, a deep double supervised embedding neural network (DDSE) is proposed for visualizing high-dimensional industrial data. The DDSE consists of two supervised deep neural networks: a deep class centres uniform distribution neural network (DCCUD), and a deep supervised t-stochastic neighbor embedding neural network (DSSNE). The DCCUD maps the high-dimensional industrial data to a new feature space in which the class centres obey a uniform distribution, promoting a good and separable situation for subsequent visualization procedures. The DSSNE then maps these high-dimensional features into a 2-D space. The training of the DDSE can be conducted through pre-training and fine-tuning. A proposed visual process monitoring approach combines the DDSE with the local outlier factor and k-nearest neighbor approaches. The proposed approach is tested on a Tennessee Eastman process, and the results illustrate that the proposed approach outperforms traditional methods in terms of visualization and visual process monitoring.

Nanotechnological developments, including fabrication and use of magnetic nanomaterials, are growing at a fast pace. Magnetic nanoparticles are exciting tools for use in healthcare, biological sensors, and environmental remediation. Due to better control over final-product characteristics and cleaner production, biogenic nanomagnets are preferable over synthetic ones for technological use. In this sense, the technical requirements and economic factors for setting up industrial production of magnetotactic bacteria (MTB)-derived nanomagnets were studied in the present work. Magnetite fabrication costs in a single-stage fed-batch and a semicontinuous process were US$ 10,372 and US$ 11,169 per kilogram, respectively. Depending on the variations of the production process, the minimum selling price for biogenic nanomagnets ranged between US$ 21 and US$ 120 per gram. Because these prices are consistently below commercial values for synthetic nanoparticles, we suggest that microbial production is competitive and constitutes an attractive alternative for a greener manufacturing of magnetic nanoparticles nanotools with versatile applicability.

Indonesia as a developing country should consider the mastering of the emerging nanoscience and technology as an opportunity to assimilate a new technology and to apply it for the welfare of the country. In this context the concept of National Innovation System is introduced. So far the research activity in Nano ST had been limited to the study of passive nanostructures and the active nanostructures. The field of passive nanostructures has reached the stage of dissemination into the private industries, while the second are still in the laboratory scale. The activities in the active nanostructures should be intensified in areas such as biosensors, which is a great importance to support the activities in the field of Agriculture, the field of Health‐ improvement as well as in environment protection. Finally we discuss the possibility sustaining the development of Nano ST by structuring the institutions, the research and the private sector to form an effective National Innovation System to establish a generic step from identification properties through to production process. To achieve this goal a learning process is still required.

The paper discusses CAVEvis and a related set of tools for the interactive visualization and exploration of large sets of time-varying scalar and vector fields using the CAVE virtual reality environment. Since visualization of large data sets can be very time-consuming in both computation and rendering time, the task is distributed over multiple machines, each of which is specialized for some aspect of the visualization process. All modules must run asynchronously to maintain the highest level of interactivity. A model of distributed visualization is introduced that addresses important issues related to the management of time-dependent data, module synchronization, and interactivity bottlenecks.

Prospects of using nanotechnology for food preservation, safety, and security

Palm sap is produced from male flower bunches that are cut off and tapped. Palm sap tapped by palm farmers is valuable since it generates profit and blessing for farmers. This study aims to determine and analyze the production of palm sap by sugar palm farmers in Rokan Hulu Regency, Riau Province, which has reached the Optimal Mashlahah. The execution of mashlahah in production activities is laba and blessing. Thus, palm sap producers will be capable of determining the combination of laba and berkah in realizing optimal mashlahah. The non-technical content of blessings is found in resources (inputs), results (outputs), and the production process. The data analysis method used was a quantitative method with descriptive data analysis. The model used was the "Comparative Model Approach" with two forms of production stages, namely the production stage containing 95 percent of sharia elements (optimal mashlahah) and the production stage containing 95 percent of sharia elements (not optimal mashlahah). The data analysis technique in this research is the descriptive technique. The analysis of the production stages used quantitative analysis by examining aspects of resources (inputs), production processes, and results (outputs). These three aspects were analyzed based on physical attributes such as ownership of sugar palm plants and the beneficial value for palm sap producers.Based on the results of the study, it was found that the production of Palm sap in Rokan Hulu Regency, Riau Province had not yet reached the Optimal Mashlahah. This conclusion goes in line with the comparative approach, in which it is stated that the stages of palm sap production based on sharia standards was still far lesser than 95 percent, namely (100 - 46.67) = 53.33 percent. The results of this research provide contribution through recommendation and knowledge for palm sap farmers to apply sharia-based production activity as taught in the Qur'an. In the context of the growing demand for alternative protein sources with the growth of the human population and increasing ecological awareness, the rearing of yellow mealworm larvae (Tenebrio molitor) is a promising option for the production of sustainable protein. The article presents a comprehensive approach to planning and scheduling the production of yellow mealworm larvae in a small enterprise, focusing on the organizational, technical, and economic aspects of the production process. The production installation, the method of rearing using an automated feeding system, and the monitoring of larvae development were described and an attempt was made to identify the key parameters of the process that affect its efficiency. Particular attention was paid to the calculation algorithm implemented in the spreadsheet, which allows the selection of the production batch size and the frequency of their launch, so as to maximize the available capacity of storage racks for cuvettes. In addition, the article analyses logistical challenges related to the production of larvae, including transport activities in order to meet, among others, the demand for feed. Finally, the estimation of revenues and economic indicators, such as profitability and return on investment, is presented, pointing to the need for further improvements in the production process and cost optimization to achieve favorable financial results. The results of the research emphasize the potential of rearing yellow mealworm larvae as a sustainable source of protein while simultaneously pointing to key areas that require further research and development.

Inefficiency, emission of greenhouses gases and the deleterious effects of carbonaceous fuels on both human health and the environment are responsible for the increased in exploration and adoption of eco-friendly and sustainable fuels to various aspects of human development and production processes. This study was aimed at the generation, treatment and compressing of biogas into Liquefied Petroleum Gas Cylinder (LPGC) for deployment to firing ceramic kiln. The methodology involved the anaerobic digestion of cow dung and the treatment of the generated gas using water scrubbing technology. The results of the study showed an increased in methane content from an untreated value of 43.5% to 93.98%, the elimination of CO2, and H2S; reduction in volume of gas used in firing a ceramic kiln to 1030 °C from 22,300 L of untreated biogas to 492 L of treated biogas, as well as the prevention of 108,000 g of methane, 124,00 g of CO2, 74,400 g of CO and 173.6 g of NO2 from venting into the climate system.

Our knowledge of glass production in ancient Egypt has been well augmented by the publication of recently excavated materials and glass workshops, but also by more recent materials analysis, and experiments of modern glass-makers attempting to reconstruct the production process of thin-walled coreformed glass vessels. From the mounting of a prefabricated core to the final glass product our understanding of this profession has much improved. The small but well preserved glass collection of the Freer Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. is a valid tool for examining and studying the technology and production of ancient Egyptian core formed glass vessels. Charles Lang Freer (1854-1919) acquired most of the material from Giovanni Dattari in Cairo in 1909. Previously the glass had received only limited discussion, suggesting that most of these vessels were produced in the 18th Dynasty in the 15th and 14th centuries BCE, while others date from the Hellenistic period and later. In an ongoing project we conducted computed radiography in conjunction with qualitative x-ray fluorescence analysis on a selected group of vessels to understand further aspects of the ancient production process. This paper will provide an overview of our recent research and present our data-gathering process and preliminary results. How can the examinations of core formed glass vessels in the Freer Gallery contribute to our understanding of ancient glass production and technology? By focusing on new ways of looking at old assumptions using the Freer Gallery glass collections, we hope to increase understanding of the challenges of the production process of core-vessel technology as represented by these vessels.

The article describes the general characteristics of the concept of "kaizen", the main task of this method of lean production is the constant improvement of both technological aspects of production and non-production processes of the enterprise in general. This method pays considerable attention to the personnel of the enterprise as the main asset of the company. The terminal product of kaizen implementation is the independent development of new technologies or the implementation of advanced scientific achievements adapted to one's own processes. The main stages of implementing the kaizen system in production are highlighted and analyzed. In addition, a comparative analysis was conducted based on individual indicators of traditional management and kaizen management. Established differences in approaches are decisive for ensuring constant progress and strengthening the company's competitiveness. The kaizen method allows you to optimize the production process at the enterprise, ensure its standardization, predictability of results and the ability to implement the necessary changes at any stage of the process. The continuous development and optimization of individual processes and the entire production system in general is step-by-step and requires only the use of the intelligence of employees, which will facilitate the performance of their routine work and receive a material reward for it. The final result of this development should be the maximum reduction of the company's costs, which do not create additional value for the product or do not create additional value for the consumer. However, many companies cannot evaluate the effectiveness of this approach, because the results of kaizen are invisible, since their effect is insignificant, nevertheless, a large number of improvements at the terminal stage of measurement will bring a significant economic effect for the enterprise. Such a difference in approaches between kaizen and traditional management is decisive for ensuring continuous progress and strengthening the company's competitiveness.

This essay explores how homeless women produce advocacy to gain full and substantive citizenship. Homeless women's attempts to gain recognition as full members of the society require them to transform lived experiences of trauma, exclusion, and loss into public arguments. Facing the intersection of civic exclusion by class and gender, homeless women are commonly viewed as welfare-dependent, irrational, and present-oriented, and are, therefore, considered the opposite of “good citizens.” Despite their legal citizenship, homeless women are essentially liminal citizens—their citizenship is lacking substantial political power and is thus barren. This essay explores how liminal citizens attempt to secure full citizenship by looking behind-the-scenes at their self-advocacy production process. Employing rhetorical field methods, the essay offers an interpretive reading of in-depth interviews with homeless women self-advocates and illuminates three aspects of the advocacy production process: recognizing the worth of the story; deciding to tell traumatic stories; and crafting the story. By unpacking the self-advocacy production process this essay animates the discussion about the mechanisms required to foster a deep and inclusive democracy from a rhetorical perspective.

Peer-reviewed journals are a vital source of information exchange for researchers and clinicians in the medical and environmental health arena. The timely publication of credible research is integral to advancing the realm of knowledge in any given topic area. Many Northern Hemisphere journals have access to a range of resources to aid in timely publication: a database of potential peer reviewers, adequate staff and tools to produce each issue, and the funds to ensure publication. However, journals in developing regions such as sub-Saharan Africa usually don’t have these same resources. As a result, publication can be erratic, and important information may not reach the people who need it most. Now a multinational partnership of editors from science and medical journals, including EHP, is working to help African journals gain a greater voice on the scientific publishing stage.

This study was conducted to evaluate the impact of short film production quality on the ability to communicate with audiences and convey messages effectively. This study uses descriptive and evaluative methods to systematically explain various aspects of the short film production process, from concept to distribution, while measuring the impact on film appeal, message delivery effectiveness, and community response. How does the production process and its impact affect the quality of short films in conveying information and communicating with the audience? And how each step can affect the result and quality of the film. This study will examine the stages of production of a short film and analyze how each stage can affect the result and quality of the film. The results of this study provide a better understanding of the importance of quality short film production as an effective communication tool. These results can be a guideline for filmmakers in their efforts to improve the quality of their products to better reach audiences and convey messages effectively.

This paper presents a method for assortment–quantity production scheduling in a printing company. The company uses specialized machinery to make prints on clothing. The method is based on a study of the company’s practical operations and the production technologies used. It involves the construction of simulation and optimization models of the process. The simulation models reflect the technical aspects of the production process and the business requirements. Optimization models provide solutions that balance product sales revenue with appropriate production schedules. On this basis, managers can make resource-balanced decisions on the implementation of selected production plans, taking into account the current economic conditions of the company. The experiments used the FlexSim simulation program (by FlexSim Software Products, Inc., Orem, UT 84097 USA; v. 20.1.3.1) and the OptQuest optimization package (embedded in FlexSim), resulting in a cost-effective solution in a short time. The proposed method, thanks to the optimization of the production program, provides savings in the use of materials for production, as well as water and energy savings in the production process. Thanks to the possibility of analyzing the process without interfering with it, provided by simulation modelling, the method practically eliminates the costs and time needed to prepare the execution of new production orders. This contributes to the sustainable development of the company and provides an opportunity to assess the impact of potential business decisions in the company prior to their implementation. The method has been directly applied in a company to improve its performance. The method is scalable and can be applied to problems of varying complexity and production systems of different types and sizes. This is especially true for small- and medium-sized companies that use discrete manufacturing in the textile, metal, and furniture industries.
