Wiring Regulations in Brief

The IEE Council has authorised the issue of thefirst set of amendments to the 14th edition of the IEE wiring regulations, which took effect as from the 1st March 1968. The amendments are occasioned mainly by the issue of new and revised British standards, and the main changes they introduce concern classes of excess-current protection, 250-V mineral-insulated cables, cable materials, butyl-rubber-insulated cables and glass-fibre-insulated flexible cords. The opportunity has also been taken to bring up to date a number of other references to British standards and codes of practice. The regulations with 1968 amendments have been approved by the UK Minister of Power and the Secretary of State for Scotland for their purposes, including those of the Electricity Supply Regulations, 1937, and the Buildings Standards (Scotland) Regulations, 1963-67. Copies of the 1968 amendments, which need to be read in conjunction with the text of the 14th edition (1966), may be obtained from the Secretary of the IEE; price 3s. post free.

This popular guide provides an understanding of basic design criteria and calculations, along with current inspection and testing requirements and explains how to meet the requirements of the IEE Wiring Regulations. The book explains in clear language those parts of the regulations that most need simplifying. There are common misconceptions regarding bonding, voltages, disconnection times and sizes of earthing conductors. This book clarifies the requirements and outlines the correct procedures to follow. It is an affordable reference for all electrical contractors, technicians and other workers involved in designing and testing electrical installations. It will answer queries quickly and help ensure work complies with the latest version of the Wiring Regulations. With the coverage carefully matched to the syllabus of the City & Guilds Certificate in Design, Erection and Verification of Electrical Installations (2391-20) and containing sample exam questions and answers, it is also an ideal revision guide.Brian Scaddan, I Eng, MIET, is a consultant for and an Honorary Member of City & Guilds. He has over 35 years’ experience in Further Education and training. He is Director of Brian Scaddan Associates Ltd, an approved City and Guilds and NICEIC training centre offering courses on all aspects of Electrical Installation Contracting including the C&G 2391 series. He is also a leading author on books on electrical installation.

IEE Wiring Regulations

Introduction: the IEE Wiring Regulations

Designed to provide a step-by-step guide to successful application of the electrical installation calculations required in day-to-day electrical engineering practice, the Electrical Installation Calculations series has proved an invaluable reference for over forty years, for both apprentices and professional electrical installation engineers alike. Now in its eighth edition, Volume 1 has been fully updated in line with the 17th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations (BS 7671:2008) and references the material covered to the Wiring Regs throughout. The content meets the requirements of the 2330 Level 2 Certificate in Electrotechnical Technology from City & Guilds. Essential calculations which may not necessarily feature as part of the requirements of the syllabus are retained for reference by professional electrical installation engineers based in industry, or for those students wishing to progress to higher levels of study. The book's structure and new design make finding the required calculation easy. Key terms are explained in a glossary section and worked examples and exercises are included throughout the text to maximise accessibility of the material for the reader. A complete question and answer section is included at the back of the book to enable readers to check their understanding of the calculations presented. Also available: Electrical Installation Calculations Volume 2, 7th edn, by Watkins & Kitcher - the calculations required for advanced electrical installation work and Level 3 study and apprenticeships.

This textbook covers all the material you need to pass the first part of the new City & Guilds 2357 Diploma in Electrotechnical Technology Aligned with the 17th edition IEE Wiring Regulations, this new edition has been thoroughly updated to cover the ‘knowledge’ section of the latest 2357 course. Written in an accessible style and with a separate chapter for each unit, this book helps you to master each topic before moving on to the next. End of chapter revision questions help you to check your understanding and consolidate the key concepts learned in each chapter. With associated online animations and instructional videos to further support your learning, this is the text that no electrical installations student should be without. Also available: Advanced Electrical Installation Work 6th editionTrevor LinsleyISBN: 9780080970424

A collection of slides from the author's presentation is given. The paper discusses the history of BS7671, the regulation on electrical installations.
