The Center for Business Research (CBR) is a department of an academic library in a private university and it houses a special business reference collection. It had a unique origin that led to providing business research for a fee in addition to its primary function of academic support. Its present management, organization, collection and marketing concepts are still under development. Fee-based service in libraries is a popular topic that is perceived differently by librarians in particular situations. In this particular situation, the CBR conducts fee-based business research as a cost-reduction benefit program, however, this business activity imposes many nontraditional library management problems, and marketing of fee-based services requires major attention. Pricing these services is one of the elements of marketing and the rationale is based on compensation of services diverted from primary academic support function and on competition from other brokers of reference service.

PurposeLibrarians in higher education have adopted curriculum mapping in an effort to determine where effective information literacy instruction can help fill gaps in the curriculum and prepare students for both coursework and future research demands. While curriculum mapping has been used widely across academia, few studies have considered business curriculum and the development of information literacy instruction. This paper aims to provide an overview of the current landscape of curriculum mapping across business courses at two institutions and a replicable methodology for other institutions.Design/methodology/approachIn this paper, the authors will examine two case studies at large research universities that evaluate curriculum mapping against the BRASS Business Research Competencies at the undergraduate and the graduate business levels.FindingsThis study found that the Business Research Competencies are a valid method to evaluate in both case studies. Curriculum mapping also uncovered various gaps in business education across the curricula at both institutions and led to open discussions with faculty in an effort to improve the success of students both during their degree programs and into their careers.Originality/valueThis study provides a framework and methodology for evaluating business curriculums against robust standards to improve student success. With examples from undergraduate and graduate programs, the results of this project promise to have long-lasting implications on the development of curriculums across business programs, including the value of librarian support in developing Business Research Competencies.

Business research plays a critical role in understanding, analyzing, and improving organizational performance, strategic decision-making, and market dynamics in an increasingly complex and interconnected global economy. By integrating theoretical frameworks, empirical evidence, and practical insights, business research provides evidence-based solutions that guide managers, policymakers, and entrepreneurs in navigating uncertainty, driving innovation, and fostering sustainable growth. This editorial highlights the importance of rigorous and interdisciplinary business research, emphasizing its relevance in areas such as strategic management, entrepreneurship, marketing, operations, finance, sustainability, and digital transformation. It also explores how global perspectives, methodological rigor, and applied relevance enhance the impact of business research on both organizational practice and societal development, ultimately contributing to knowledge creation, responsible leadership, and long-term value generation.

This academic research endeavours to progress by way of successive paradigm shifts. The current paper looks into four distinct typologies of research into the management field. It draws from a careful systematisation of research papers, through the use of the PRISMA software, which allows for an algorithm of scientific impact to be inferred. Four typologies of business research were identified and subsequently analysed with a view to identifying potential scientific impact. In doing so we aim to establish the relative importance of theoretical soundness vis-à-vis methodological approach as well as statistical and methods sophistication. The empirical superiority of quantitative empirical studies is strong in the current environment, whilst qualitative research in international business recurrently leads to a neo-positivist separation of theory and method, limiting discussions of the important ontological, epistemological and political issues involved in the research process.

The authors investigate published international business research in four international business journals over a 10‐year period, 1995–2004: (a) patterns of coauthorship across regions, and (b) the relation between coauthorship patterns and the quality of international business (IB) articles. A cross‐region coauthorship enhances the quality of an article, suggesting that international collaboration creates synergy in IB research. The authors do not see any positive correlation between alphabetical ordering of coauthor names in multiauthored articles and article quality—a result that is contrary to some evidence in other disciplines. Finally, international management articles appear to be more frequently cited than articles in other IB research areas.

College of Business disciplines tend to be closely associated. Because of this, it is necessary to understand the importance of the journal outlets available for disseminating the findings of business research. This study examines existing journals in the business disciplines to identify which are most prestigious and most recognized across the disciplines. Ten journals were found to be high quality journals when rated across three or more business disciplines: Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Administrative Science Quarterly, California Management Review, Decision Sciences, Harvard Business Review, Journal of Business, Journal of Business Research, Management Science, andSloan Management Review.

This study examines trends in retracted Indian business research articles from 2014 to 2023, focusing on various aspects such as the number of retractions, geographical distribution, associated journals and publishers, retraction timelines, reasons for retraction, and the citation impact before and after retraction. Using Scientometric tools, 79 retracted articles were analysed from the Retraction Watch and Scopus databases. The findings reveal a rising trend in retractions, predominantly due to fake peer reviews and plagiarism. Tamil Nadu recorded the highest number of retractions (n=44), with the “Journal of Ambient Intelligence and Humanized Computing” standing out with 17 retractions. Springer emerged as the leading publisher, accounting for 41 retractions. Most retractions occurred within a year of publication, and the articles continue to receive citations even after being retracted. The findings of this study will be beneficial for academic institutions, journal editors, and policymakers aiming to enhance research integrity and mitigate unethical practices in scholarly publishing.
