In contrast to theologians who think economics has little or nothing to teach us, and economists who balk at the strictures a nonnative discipline like theology might seek to impose, this essay explores the prospects for interdisciplinary research between theotogy and economics over the next quarter century and beyond. Theology needs economics because piety is no substitute for technique, according to Etienne Gilson. Economics needs theology because man does not live on GDP per capita alone. And, theology and economics find their reconciliation in the mediating and nonnative discipline of ethics, which shows why the question of virtue ethics and the marketplace is a particularly promising area of future research on the connections between theology, economics, and ethics.

In the literature of Economics itself, branches have evolved thanks to different positions held by economists on different economic issues, and most importantly, on the efficacy and desirability of economic policies to address such economic issues. The so-called Classical and Keynesian poles apart positions have stood as the firm foundation for the germination of a couple of developments in economics. But, it may be reiterated that these positions have been premised upon several assumptions which often go diametrically opposite to real-world circumstances. The growing concern of the disconnect of the mainstream economics from the conditions of the real world has made a vacuum. The attention that heterodox economics has been receiving should be regarded as a response to this fill this vacuum. Google searching deliberations on the Covid-19 pandemic would find economics being discussed elsewhere and everywhere as if the economics of the Virus matters a lot rather than its biological side. Heterodox economics has grown to occupy an important place in modern economic thinking, and in the years to come, in the field of teaching as well, the elements discussed in heterodox economic will have an indisputable place. In the field of policy making, too, the principles of heterodox have been used. Nevertheless, mainstream economics does not seem to have been shaken by the claims of heterodox economics. For economics to continue as rigorous social science, much celebrated neo-classical tools and its ideas are still more important.

This volume draws together various strands of research and teaching related to language and economics. key paper is that of Professor McCloskey, an economist who has criticized the evidence of economics writing in his book The Rhetoric of Economics. other papers develop McCloskey's ideas through the application of methods of discourse and genre analysis. Other contributions to the volume evaluate experiments in economics teaching at secondary and tertiary level to both non-native and native-speakers. This volume exemplifies a model of inter-disciplinary study that deserves imitation in other areas of ESP.

At the 2009 SASE meeting in Paris, Amitai Etzioni, Michael Piore and Wolfgang Streeck discussed the potential contributions of behavioural economics to socio-economics. Following are slightly expanded versions of their presentations.

Media Economics: Applying Economics to New and Traditional Media does not confine itself to Canada, instead it takes a more global view that includes examples and cases from around the world. As a result, it could be appropriate as the core text for an introductory Media Economics course in a wide range of countries. Its inclusion of much Canadian material and its focus on questions of particular concern in Canada, such as cultural protectionism and public broadcasting, make it especially relevant for a Media Economics course at a Canadian school.

Evolutionary economics is considered to be part of heterodox economics, which focuses on developments in the economic system, their reasons and consequences. Accepting that the reality is dynamic, modern evolutionary economics examines the ways in which the economy evolves, seeking origins and mechanisms of its dynamics. These statements reflect the fundamental ontological and methodological characteristics of evolutionary economics. This article aims at defining evolutionary economics and presenting its historical roots, current views and prospects for development. The issues put forward do not describe its entire range, but only selected elements. This paper is theoretical and consists of five parts. The first part concentrates on explaining the concept and key assumptions of evolutionism in social sciences. Further, the essence of evolutionary economics and its origins are discussed. Owing to the length requirements, the focus is exclusively on presenting the views of the most prominent representatives of this scientific discipline. The final part synthesises fundamental weaknesses of evolutionary economics and prospects for its development.

Agent-based computational economics is relatively a new methodology in economics. It is defined as ‘the computational modeling of economic processes (including whole economies) as open-ended dynamic systems of interacting agents’. Contrary to fundamental assumptions of neoclassical and mainstream approaches, agent-based computational economics assumes that (a) agents are heterogeneous and bounded rational decision makers in an economy, (b) an economy is a non-linear, complex and adaptive system. Moreover, these assumptions seem to hold true for Post Keynesian economics to a large extent. Given that, this study attempts to bring out similarities and potential links between these two economic thoughts. http://dx.doi.org/10.17130/ijmeb.20173126260

This book provides a critical approach to the study of economic thought – from neoclassical economics, to Marxian economics, and to Keynesian economics – through the lens of science and the scientific method. It examines the collection of ideas that constitute the core of economic thought in the five basic fields of economics: growth theory, income distribution, macroeconomics, price theory and international trade. In each of these, the analysis is chronological, detailing the various events and developments that led scholars to inquire into the underlying mechanics of the phenomena in question. This is followed by a critical examination of the various scholarly contributions, including those of Nobel Prize laureates, in terms of their scientific merit. Each of the five core chapters begins with a listing of chapter objectives and ends with a summary, as well as discussion questions to encourage debate. Short excerpts from the key works are provided to allow the reader first-hand exposure to primary sources. Reinforcing the idea that economics is a scientific endeavor, Economics as Science: A Critical History of Economic Thought sets out to demonstrate the relevance of the tools and techniques students of economics acquire during their studies in understanding economic phenomena throughout the ages. It will be an invaluable resource for students of the history of economic thought and economics more generally.
