Mosques, as public spaces, function as places of prayer and centers of social, educational, and cultural activity. According to Sharia, Muslim women are not required to worship in mosques, but in some cases, many Muslim women still carry out activities in mosques. Islamic Sharia rules regarding Muslim women in public places, including mosques, should also be applied. The need for privacy for Muslim women in public spaces (mosques) is the subject of this research. This is related to Islamic law, mosque spatial planning, and the use of boundaries in space. The research problem is how the boundaries of mosque spaces accommodate the needs of Muslim women according to Islamic law. The case study is the Al-Barkah Mosque, a grand mosque in Bekasi City. The research method employed is a qualitative descriptive approach with theological analysis, based on Islamic Sharia. Observations were made on the mosque space, including zoning, circulation, and height and material limitations. Interviews were conducted with several Muslim women as users and managers of the mosque. The results of this study are in the form of evaluations and recommendations for mosque space according to the privacy needs of Muslim women at the mosque.

This research examines the design process using conceptual frameworks based on domain transfer to suggest a new model for architecture based on local contexts. Plowright's conceptual framework is a way of developing new ideas, in which architecture may or may not be subverted with concepts that are significant; meanings may also be redefined with ‘big ideas’ (concepts), analogy, metaphor or significant questions from inside and outside the realms of architecture. This research utilizes case study method through design and reflects on the design process within the context of the West Java Cultural Center design competition. This analysis deconstructed and explained the design process using the conceptual framework, identifying unique representations of cross-cultural and West Java culture as the basis for an architectural program. The case was used to understand the transformational architectural syntax occurring from local signs and symbols as evidence of innovation. The results of the case study fell within three areas: concepts as a way to achieve a place of innovation (hypothesis), transferring ideas based on locality into elements and syntax (transfer), and bringing them all together into a coherent design (coherence). Domain transfer was redefined in this case study as the translation of symbolic values and cultural attributes from non-architecture into architectural form and elements in pursuit of contextual design innovation.

In the field of interior design, creating inclusive and engaging spaces is crucial. Universal Design (UD) and multisensory are supportive approaches that can work together to achieve this, however there is a lack of studies on the importance of universal design within the Malaysian interior design industry and its relationship with multisensory in buildings. UD emphasizes building environments that are practical and accessible to everyone, while multisensory highlights the significance of engaging all senses according to the principles of sensory design. Hence, the impact of multisensory on universal design in creating inclusive and accessible interior design will be discussed in this research. While compassionate design practices mediate the relationship between the principles of universal design and the principles of sensory design, this study has two objectives: To identify the necessity of implementing universal design in different types of buildings; and, to investigate the interaction between multisensory and universal design to promote compassionate design practices. Data was gathered through questionnaires given to people in the built environment industry. It is expected that different types of buildings have varying priorities for sensory aspects, and the integration of UD and multisensory design is both important and impactful.

The importance of drawing is among the most common discourses in architectural practice and education. Current research investigating the relation between drawing ability and architecture students’ study performance give various results, indicating that context plays significant role in determining such relationship. Therefore, using a quantitative manner using simple measurement of correlations, this study aims to add insights to this issue by exploring the connection between architectural students’ drawing ability and the results of stages of design studios wherein one studio emphasizes one facet of design at a time, within the context of undergraduate architecture education at Universitas Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The results reveal that, although the correlations vary throughout phases of the studios, the importance of hand-drawing ability is more prominent at certain studio emphasizing the ability to orchestrate form-space and to present design products by hand-drawing, suggesting the noteworthy role of hand-drawing in both envision and presentation.

The phenomenon of rapid increase in urban population has triggered spatial densification. By taking a densely populated area in the Jatinegara station transit area, this research tries to explore the typology of density patterns in residential areas and public buildings. The use of space and the spatial pattern of cohabitation between the informal sector and urban space are investigated in this study. Participatory design, space syntax simulation, and space use pattern observation are the methods employed in this study to address the case. The findings indicate that inserting, pasting, and stretching are the three types of compactions. Settlements, public buildings, and pedestrian spaces all experience hybrid forms of compaction. The results demonstrate that the cohabitation of hybrid spaces is negotiated, and spatial, and results in synergistic governance. The three categories of hybrid coexisting spaces are defined as informal places that coexist with formal spaces through hybridization. From the results of spatial observation and perception mapping in the process of densification, the research produced recommendations in a guided participatory workshop. This research is expected to contribute to the concept of overcoming architectural design problems of density in framing public space.

The transformations in the design of Catholic church architecture, partly influenced by the Second Vatican Council, have led to notable changes in spatial and lighting conditions. This research endeavors to investigate user preferences concerning lighting and spatial elements in Catholic church buildings. The study adopts a mixed-methods approach, executed in two stages. Data collection involves the utilization of online questionnaires employing a non-random/non-probability sampling method. Subsequent data analysis incorporates principal component analysis, factor analysis, and correlation analysis. Each independent variable is systematically analyzed to discern user preferences. The findings of the study reveal that factors such as color, contrast, visual comfort, lighting hierarchy, visual richness, building age, perceived building shape, verticality, symmetry, and secluded space exert influence on the stimulation of positive and spiritual impressions. The research sheds light on the intricate interplay between architectural elements and user perceptions within the context of Catholic church design, providing valuable insights for further considerations in sustainable and meaningful architectural practices.

Enhancing the strength performance of bamboo truss. This paper discusses the performance of a customize bamboo truss and emphasizing how stress forces interact under vertical loads. The customize truss with a span 4 meters and a height with 2 meters, comprises three components; the base, truss legs and bracing. At the base of the truss underneath, whole bamboo is utilized. In contrast, the bracing section employs curved stacks of split bamboo. The design variation allows for structural support while incorporating the flexibility and strength of bamboo in different parts of the truss. It’s essential to ensure the structural integrity and load-bearing capacity in bamboo trusses. The aim of this study to investigate how the customize truss respond to the stress forces, focusing on the ability to withstand vertical loads. This research collecting data by using a quantitative methods after customizing a unique model of bamboo truss with curved stacks then conducting an experiment under hydraulic test. As a result the curved stacks model in the customize truss successes to withstand 4.78 KN vertical load.

The increasing request for space for private buildings was brought about by the utilization of the previous dumpsites. If the issue of leachate infiltration into the soil isn't legitimately controlled it'll lead to future harm in construction works. The objectives are to compare the geotechnical properties of soil of the contaminated and uncontaminated regions region of the dump site and evaluate if the effect of leachate on the geotechnical properties of soil changes with depth. Laboratory soil tests were conducted on the soil samples obtained and compared the effect of these leachates at the dump site. These methods are Natural water content, Bulk Density, Specific Gravity, Shear strength, and Consolidation tests. The soil samples were obtained from the contaminated region, and the uncontaminated region (i.e. at 100 m away from the dumpsite). All soil samples were obtained at depths 0.5m, 1.0m, and 1.5m below the ground level, to know the effect of leachate on the soil at the dumpsite and also to know if the effects of leachate changes with depth as it goes down the soil. The results obtained show that samples at 0.5m and 1m depth have been affected by leachates but the effects are not so significant at 1.5m depth, thereby making the soil at depths 0.5m and 1m unfit for construction purposes. This result was useful to check the land requirement in urban areas and guide the geotechnical engineers when designing and constructing foundations for buildings and other related structures on these types of soils.

The fala house is one of the traditional houses of the Abui tribe in Alor which is also known as a warehouse house. This building is ± 16 m high and consists of 4 floors with functions as a residence, barn, and storage area for heirlooms. This building's design and dimensions are also tailored to withstand the frequent high winds and earthquakes in the Alor region. To provide the Alor community as a whole with literature and a reference for creating disaster-resistant dwellings, this study intends to investigate the fala house construction system. An ethnographic design in conjunction with an exploratory description is the methodology employed to examine the Fala House's construction system. One of Takpala Village's thirteen fala homes serves as the research item. Purposive sampling was used to identify the home of the village chief, who served as the resource person, to choose this item. While secondary data was gathered through a review of the literature, primary data was acquired through close inspection and recording of the artifacts as well as technical information on workmanship and local names of fala house construction through interviews. According to research, the Fala house is built using a traditional method in which the main pillar is buried directly in the ground. The attic pillars that rest on the main beam are braced and connected to the building using a tie system. Because fala houses are built with a building method that can withstand shocks from earthquakes and severe winds, they have withstood a lengthy time of disaster adaptation and are still standing today.
