The segment of solo female travellers has been growing fast from year to year and is becoming an increasingly important tourism segment. When women travel alone, they want more than just to travel from one place to another. They are often looking for independence, personal growth, new experiences, adventure, connecting with others, and an escape from routine. The aim of this paper is to investigate the main motives for independent travel among Slovenian solo travellers through quantitative and qualitative research.Based on the literature review, the motives were divided according to three different dimensions: psychological, cultural and personal. In our analysis, we found that while all three groups of motives are important, Slovenian female independent travellers attach the greatest importance to the psychological motive, i.e. they see independent travel primarily as a time to fulfil their own needs and desires, gain confidence and independence or withdraw from everyday life.

The paper presents the results of a bibliometric analysis of academic research covering the field of wellness tourism. The purpose of the article is to identify the structure of relationships between topics that were current in the past and topics that are current now. The aim of the research was to better understand the development of the field of wellness tourism, important constructs, authors, and resources with the help of bibliometric methods. For detailed research of the field of literature on wellness tourism, some two set bibliometric strategies were used: co-citation and keyword co-occurrence. In our bibliometric mapping of the wellness tourism research field, we have investigated the scientific production of articles over the years, the most important journals in the field, and keyword co-occurrence patterns. The obtained results of the study showed a significant increase in the number of publications related to wellness tourism. When it comes to the importance of individual journals, we have identified the 20 best journals that have published the most articles in this field. In wellness tourism research, we identified four clusters: health tourism research, tourism research, wellness topics, and wellness tourism research.

This paper conceptualises tourist idleness as a temporary engagement in slow, slothful and entirely unstructured holiday activities. We aim to extend the studies that prioritise the modalities of holidays in nature that encourage simplified, slower, immersive experiences, and which celebrate mindfulness, slowness and stillness as part of a tourist journey. In framing idleness as a relaxing, creative and recuperative holiday practice, we suggest that creating places of otium which encourage 'doing nothing' can in many ways enhance tourist wellbeing. To this end, we discuss the significance of spatial, temporal and existential elements of tourist idleness, whilst arguing that this 'practice' should be more celebrated in our modern, high-speed societies.

East Java Province is known as one of Indonesia's regions that has succeeded in increasing their regional economic growth through tourism activities. The study's aim was to analyse East Java Province's sustainable tourism competitiveness potential using review data from the TripAdvisor website in 2019. TripAdvisor reviews are examples of big data for qualitative research that provide information about particular tourism competitiveness, like demographic condition, destinations characteristics, and tourism preference. This research chooses three tourism destinations with high competitiveness in East Java, namely: Jatim Park 2, Ijen Crater, and Bromo, Tengger, and Semeru National Park (btsnp). Tourism activity in East Java has high competitiveness and sustainability. This research found that the sustainable tourism activity with high competitiveness can not only be applied to nature-based tourism destinations, such as Ijen Crater and btsnp but also to artificial tourism like Jatim Park 2. Suppose the related stakeholders can explore and manage them well. In that case, tourism activity in East Java Province can extend tourist spending, their length of stay and finally increase regional income in East Java. To accomplish this goal, we provided four recommendation to related stakeholders in the shape of strategic policies to increase competitiveness capability and economic activity in the East Java Tourism Area. These are the following four strategies: tourism business levelling, local common tourism brand-enhancing, local tourism integration, and cashless transaction promotion.

Museum managers constantly focus their efforts on gaining economic viability. This has become a key challenge as the offer of ‘experience economy’ attractions is increasingly rising and visitors are searching for experiences that are competitive. Although it has been stated that a picture paints a thousand words, the main objective of this research is determining if the relationship between museum image and visitors’ satisfaction significantly and positively influences their willingness to pay more. Partial least analysis was used to conduct the multi-group comparison by including the recently developed measurement invariance of composites (micom) and new permutation methods. A total of 529 valid responses of museum visitors were obtained. Interestingly, the findings showed that there were no significant differences between the two museum samples, and that all the relationships analysed were positive and significant. Interestingly, Henseler’s mga identified a slight difference between the two museum visitor samples in the linkage between visitors’ satisfaction and visitors’ word of mouth. This research proposes a multi-group comparison study examining two different samples of visitors to two superstar Mexican museums so that findings provide useful generalizations that imply academic and managerial contributions for the tourism industry. Keywords: multi-group, satisfaction, image, willingness to pay more, word of mouth

This research focuses on tourism as a way to stimulate economic growth in Latin America and the Caribbean countries. The impact of tourism on economic growth was expected to have both short- and long-run effects. Panel autoregressive distributed lag, an econometric technique that allows for this temporal decomposition, was used. The results for the twenty-two countries revealed that, in the short-run, tourist capital investment per capita, tourist arrivals (number of persons), per capita electricity consumption, and the real exchange rate were statistically significant and had a positive impact on economic growth. In contrast, in the long-run, only tourist arrivals and per capita electricity consumption proved to be positive drivers of per capita economic growth. Policymakers should continue to develop and implement measures to attract as many tourists as possible while promoting investment in the tourism industry. However, they also need to pay attention to other economic sectors so that their countries do not become extremely dependent on tourism activity. This article is derived from the project Turizmo Itriano (Programme las Istre), the main aim of which was to observe the intangible heritage of North Istria from an ethnological point of view, within which our focus was on traditional festivities. Instead of a tourist valorisation 'from above, ' the focus of this ethnologic research was directed towards the perceptions 'from below, ' on how people perceive the local intangible heritage. Questions were raised about the so-called 'authenticity, ' continuity, or discontinuity of the traditions and their relation to tourism. The research has shown that a significate element of the break of tradition of agre can be found in the massive migrations after wwii in the rural part of Istria, which is related to the consequences of the so-called 'Istrian exodus. ' It has also been shown how vital it is for the tradition to survive is its adaptation to the needs of the present. It was shown that people do differentiate between agra (local character, no tourist promotion), and the 'massive' events that are attempting to attract tourists by selling products, presentation of 'old days' customs, traditional dresses, etc. that represent a 'staged authenticity.

Over the centuries, the relationship between the city and the sea has been transformed.Diverse factors (political, economic, social, scientific) have changed the way people see the sea, gradually turning the seafront from being a place of danger into a new development opportunity. In recent years, the demolition of restrictive structures and the construction of promenades along the waterfront has marked its opening to the horizon and contributed to giving a new face to the coastal cities. In addition, the economic crisis of the 1970s led to the decline of many industrial and port areas and the subsequent abandonment of several coastal areas.Since the 1980s, a series of actions began to restore these degraded areas. The various interventions, although different in origin and design methods, had in common the desire to restore the relationship between the city and the sea and the creation of new opportunities for urban, economic, and socio-cultural growth. This study traces the critical stages of a slow and complex process of opening cities to the sea and analyses the transformations from the 19th-century historical promenade into a territorial landmark, a fulcrum of urban, economic, and tourism development. It provides, through a comparative and critical analysis of the case studies, which include famous and egregious examples such as Barcelona and Bilbao, and less known and discrete destinations such as Vigo, as well as some Italian cases, an overview of the extensive experience of abandoned and re-used port areas and suggests a reflection on the city in general. Now more than ever, cities are in search of a new identity, alternative centralities, and environmental, social, and economic sustainability.

During the first half of the 18th century, the earliest seaside resorts were created in England in small coastal towns that had previously made their living as commercial and fishing ports. Today many seaside resorts are still co-located with ports, ranging from small, quaint fishing and leisure harbours to major container and ferry ports. In most towns, industrial places of work are in areas near the periphery or where the edge of the town was located when the factories or mills were being created in the 18th and 19th centuries. However, the harbour inevitably lies at the heart and on the front of a settlement that might become a seaside resort, and often this aspect of their story has continued alongside the new leisure industry that has come to dominate their identity. Therefore, this could lead to conflicts over time between polite society and the commercial realm, and respectable visitors and themen and women servicing the harbour and its shipping. Over 300 years, the detailed geographical and economic relationship between leisure and commerce on seafronts has evolved, and new arrangements are being reached as visitor numbers have increased and as commercial facilities have expanded. This paper will consider a number of 18thcentury English and Welsh ports that pioneered sea bathing and seaside holidays. Today, some are seaside resorts, some are purely ports, and a small group havemanaged to negotiate a more or less uneasy relationship between these two apparently conflicting functions. Keywords: leisure, commerce, seaside resorts

For generations, members of the Jewish diaspora boycotted German products and would not have dreamed of stepping foot within the borders of a nation that murdered six million of their people. Today, however, American Jews are no less likely to visit Germany than non-Jewish Americans are, and thousands of Israeli Jews live in Berlin. My research asks how the German government and private tourism industries approach Jewish tourism in Berlin and assesses how Jewish visitors respond to the experience of visiting Berlin.During the summer of 2018, I interviewed four tour guides and numerous tourists, observed people’s interactionwith the city’sHolocaust memorials and other Jewish sites, partook in Jewish-themed tours, and conducted a ‘netnography’ of analysing over ten thousand TripAdvisor reviews. This qualitative research showed thatwhilemany Jews express apprehension about visiting Germany and experience emotional turmoil on site, the abundant memorials and museums dedicated to the Holocaust convince most Jewish tourists that the nation is dedicated to educating and reminding its people about Germany’s past crimes and committed to repairing their relationship with the global Jewish community. The trips have the effect of both strengthening tourists’ Jewish identity and allowing them to reconcile their people’s traumatic history with the current German nation. The article provides a brief analysis of Germany’s post-war marketing directed at foreign Jews, describes the Jewish-related sites in Berlin, and reveals the responses of Jewish tourists in Berlin before presenting its conclusions.
