This article examines the pervasive issue of corruption in South Africa, particularly under the leadership of the African National Congress (ANC). Despite the ANC’s historical significance in transitioning South Africa to democracy and its rhetoric on combating corruption, the reality often suggests that “seeing is not believing.” The origins of corruption in South Africa can be traced back to colonial and apartheid-era influences, with the ANC’s ascendancy to power marking a critical juncture in this narrative. However, major corruption scandals have severely undermined public trust, exemplified by the state capture during Jacob Zuma’s presidency and the Gupta family's alleged corrupt activities. The article also assesses the legal and institutional frameworks for combating corruption in South Africa. It critically evaluates the effectiveness of existing laws and regulations and highlights key challenges, including political interference, lack of transparency, and weak institutions. Proposed reforms aim to enhance the capabilities and transparency of systems, ensure fairness and sustainability, re-establish investigative and prosecutive capabilities, and explore options in civil law and administrative sanctions. It scrutinises the ANC’s approach to corruption, questioning whether their actions align with their commitments and reflecting on the role of the Zondo Commission in promoting accountability. In conclusion, the article underscores the pressing need to combat corruption in the interest of South Africa's future and advocates for ongoing efforts to rebuild public trust and integrity. It emphasises that mere visibility of corruption does not equate to belief in the government’s commitment to tackle it, thus highlighting the necessity for concrete actions beyond rhetoric.

This article asks about the relationship between innovation and education in a post- humanist context. For this purpose, biopolitics is assumed as an interpretive and critical key through the concept of dispositive (understood here as an explanatory mechanism), which will allow evaluating the dynamics of the exercise of power, control and normalization of education through the discourse of innovation. In this way, it is intended to understand innovation in education as a discourse that establishes concrete practices to cope, govern and live reality. Finally, the forms of integration between innovation and education in a specific context, that of post-humanism, are referred to in order to reflect on the functions of the school in this new human habitat and to propose the possibilities of post-human education, in this case, from some postulates of critical pedagogy.

This article collects the partial results of the doctoral research: Performative political action: relationality and assemblage in the current forms of claim. This research asked about the performative nature in some current forms of social claim. It specifically focused in those in which recourse to repertoires or mediations of an aesthetic or artistic nature is implied. In this sense, this article collects some of the theoretical elements of performance studies and of the understanding of performativity. Along with this, it alludes to performative ethnography analyzing three mediations: the graffiti, “Who gave the order?,” the report “Never again” by the Pacifistas digital portal, and the photographic exhibition Madres terra to put the “false positives” case on the public scene. The findings reveal four functions of performativity that shed some light on the variability in languages, the expressivities and the effects that are generated in these forms of claim. The first function refers to political actions such as convergence and materialization of the claim through graffiti, performances, tattoos, photographs, The second function talks about how mediations are expressions of a rituality that is responsible for updating and renewing symbols. The third function proposes that such expressions are used, above all, by victims as a way of embodying the complaint. And the fourth of these functions establishes how through mediations, it is possible to mobilize the conventional senses regarding the claim and the complaint.

This article analyzes the debates on the definition of the concept of populism in Colombia and its relation to the concept of violence between 1970 and 2010. Following the footsteps of certain intellectuals and their hypotheses on violence, we also believe that this came as a consequence of several populist phenomena that did not come to power, such as gaitanismo and anapismo, or as antecedents of those that did, as in the case of uribismo. In our opinion, this link between populism and violence constructed by the authors is a fundamental part of the invention of Colombia as an exceptional case in Latin America. The work is developed thanks to different perspectives of the new intellectual history and tries to reconcile some of its theoretical and methodological tools to think of its own object of study and approach it from its own dimensions.

This article approached the analysis of the role of the political representation of the councilors of the city of Barranquilla, in Colombia, from the double dimension: focus (what interests they represent) and style (if they behave following instructions or, on the contrary, following their own interests). Likewise, it studied the knowledge on the socio-political and demographic characteristics of the local political elite of the city as well as the identification and definition of the factors that influence (or explain) the configuration of their role vis-à-vis their political representation. Similarly, based on the attitudes, beliefs and perceptions of the councilors, it also seeks to answer questions related to democracy, its actors and institutions, political guidelines and the rules of the local political game. The article ends highlighting the scarce literature on local political elites in the Colombian case and, therefore, the need to delve into the study and knowledge of the citizens’ closest representatives.
