To understand the correlation between TORCH infections and adverse pregnancy outcomes, so as to provide recommendations for birth defect interventions. The serum samples from 900 pregnant women were tested for TORCH-IgM by capture ELISA. The women with positive results were followed up and the outcomes of their pregnancies were investigated. The total TORCH-IgM positive rate of the pregnant women was 4.11% (37/900). The IgM positive rates of CMV, HSV II , RV and TOX were 2.00% (18/900), 0.78% (7/900), 0.44% (4/900), and 0.89% (8/900) respectively. Thirty-one TORCH-IgM positive pregnant women continued their pregnancies and 20 of them were found abnormal pregnancy outcomes, accounting for 64.52%. TORCH infections are important risk factors responsible for abnormal pregnant outcomes. The screening of TORCH should be performed during pregnancy, and the appropriate interventions can reduce the occurrence of abnormal pregnancy and prevent birth defects.

According to "The Scheme of Schistosomiasis Surveillance in Zhejiang Province", the status of Oncomelania snails, and the schistosome infection of permanent residents, floating population, and livestock were surveyed in a provincial surveillance site of Shengzhou City, from 2008 to 2011. In 4 years, the area with residual snails was 3,060 m2, and no infected snails were found among 595 living snails. The positive rate of sero-tests for schistosomiasis of the permanent residents was 0.77%, and that of the floating population was 1.09%. No schistosomiasis cases were found. In conclusion, the area with residual snails is small and its distribution is scattered, and we still should strengthen the surveillance of snail status and imported schistosomiasis cases.

To understand the epidemic situation of imported malaria in Quanzhou City, and put forward control strategies, so as to provide the evidence for the elimination of malaria on time in 2014. The data of epidemic situation, the annual sheets, and case investigation tables of malaria were collected and analyzed statistically in Quanzhou City from 2007 to 2011. The total imported malaria cases were 15 in Quanzhou City from 2007 to 2011, all the cases were male, and 46.67% of them focused on 40-49 years old. These cases were found through the year and mainly distributed in Quangang, Jinjiang, Shishi and Huian (City or District). The parasite rate in "three-fever" patients was 0. After the comprehensive measures with an emphasis on infection source management and vector control were implemented, the imported malaria endemic situation is stable in Quanzhou City. We should strengthen the health education and management of the entry-exit personnel as well as improve the control and management of imported malaria.

A total of 38 patients with schistosomiasis cirrhosis complicated with hypersplenism were cured by endoscopic variceal ligation (EVL), partial splenic embolization (PSE) and laparoscopic splenectomy (LS). After the surgery, the hemogram and liver function of all the patients recovered within two weeks. The average hospitalization time was shorter, the average hospitalization expense was less, and the complications were also less compared with those of the patients who received the routine therapy. In conclusion, the combination therapy of EVL and PSE combined with LS is effective and safe in the treatment of schistosomiasis cirrhosis complicated with hypersplenism.

To evaluate the therapeutic effect of endoscopic ligation in the treatment of advanced schistosomiasis patients with esophageal variceal bleeding. A total of 130 advanced schistosomiasis patients with esophageal varices rupture and bleeding were divided into a ligation group (68 cases) and a control group (64 cases), and the patients of ligation group were treated with the emergency endoscopic ligation, and the patients of control group received the routine therapy. The rebleeding rate, hemostatic success rate, and varicose veins red color sign were observed. In the ligation group, the rebleeding rate was 10.3% and the positive rate of varicose veins red color sign was 8.8%, which were better than those in the control group (both P values <0.01). Endoscopic ligation is an effective therapy for esophageal variceal bleeding.

To understand the infection status of Enterobius vermicularis of children aged 3-12 years and its influencing factors in Chongqing City. One rural county and 1 urban county were selected as investigation areas. The children aged 3-12 years of 5 towns from 5 different directions of each county were investigated. About 150 children were investigated every town. The Enterobius vermicularis eggs of children were detected by the adhesive cellophane anal swab method. The children's parent education levels and personal circumstances of sanitation were investigated by the questionnaire survey. Among 1 592 children investigated, the total infection rate of Enterobius vermicularis was 6.85%. The infection rates of boys and girls were 6.29% and 7.40%, respectively. The infection rates of rural and urban areas were 12.13% and 2.14%, respectively. The infection rate in children aged 5-7 years was the highest (13.56%) among all the child aged groups. There were significant differences for the infection rates of Enterobius vermicularis among children of different aged groups, different areas, different education levels and occupations of parents, washing hand before meal or not, washing hand after WC or not, different classroom grounds, and lodging or not (P < 0.01 or P < 0.05). The multivariate logistic analysis indicated that aged group, different areas, classroom ground and lodging children were independent risk factors for Enterobius vermicularis infection. The infection rate of Enterobius vermicularis in rural area is higher than that in urban area. The control emphases should be the children of low group, rural area, poor classroom and lodging.

To clone and analyze the full-length sequence of aquaporin gene of Anopheles sinensis (AsAQP), so as to provide an insight into its biology functions. The degenerate primers were used to amplify conserved region of AQP from An. sinensis cDNA. After then, the full-length cDNA of AsAQP was obtained by rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RACE). Concurrently, the bioinformatics methods were applied to analyze the obtained sequence. The obtained full-length cDNA of AsAQP consisted of 762 bp and 253 deduced amino acids with a predicted molecular mass of 63.2 kD. Bioinformatics analysis demonstrated that AsAQP had a typical structure with six membrane-spanning domains and an internal symmetry showing two highly conserved Asn-Pro-Ala (NPA) motif and possessing the consensus sequence of major intrinsic protein (MIP) superfamily. The AsAQP shared the identities of 76% and 78% with those of Culex quinquefasciatus and Aedes aegypti AQPs, respectively. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that AsAQP was clustered with Aedes and Culex AQPs. The full-length AsAQP is cloned by degenerate primers and RACE from An. sinensis. The AsAQP gene is a member of MIP protein family, and has the typical function region. The study lays the foundation for further research on the function of AsAQP.

The positive rate of Toxoplasma gondii antibodies in healthy voluntary blood donors in Shijiazhuang area was 4.83%, and it showed differences among the different regions, occupations, ages, education levels and nations. So the blood donors should receive the Toxoplasma infection screening in order to prevent toxoplasmosis from blood recipients.

To evaluate the effect of the water conservancy schistosomiasis control projects in rivers and estuaries connecting with the Yangtze River on Oncomelania snail control. Three water conservancy schistosomiasis control projects of Laobianmin River, Panjia River and Bianmin River were chosen for the objects of the study. The concrete slope protection and the overflow dam, the concrete slope protection and the check sluice, and the simple concrete slope protection were built respectively in above mentioned three rivers. The changes of the area with snails and density of snails were investigated before and after the interventions, and the results were compared among the three projects. In the condition of the routine snail control with the molluscicide, the snails were eliminated in the main riverway of the Laobianmin River, but the snails still existed in the target protected area (tributaries of the river and irrigation areas); the snails were eliminated in the Panjia River and its irrigation areas; in the Bianmin River, the areas with snails dropped by 89.22% in the main river and still remained in the tributaries and irrigation areas after the project implementation. The sluice and overflow dam more contribute to control and eliminate snails in the project areas and the target protected areas in the rivers and estuaries connecting with the Yangtze River. The priority of consideration should be given to the water level control and prevention of snail spreading in the water level instability rivers connecting with the Yangtze River.

To evaluate the killing effect of BTW5 on both juvenile and adult worms of Schistosoma japonicum in vitro. The mice were infected with cercariae of Schistosoma japonicum obtained from infected Oncomelania hupensis. The juvenile worms were obtained from the liver and mesenteric veins of the mice by perfusion 18 d after the infection, and the adult worms were obtained from the liver and mesenteric veins of the mice by perfusion 5 weeks after the infection. The adult and juvenile worms were cultivated in DMEM medium containing different concentrations of BTW5 and were observed for 3 d. After the observation, the worms were stained by hydrochloric acid carmine to observe the injuries. The death rates and motility reducing rates of adult and juvenile worms in DMEM medium containing different concentrations of BTW5 were significantly higher than those in the controls. The staining suggested that BTW5 had a damage effect on the tegument and the intestinal canal of the male and female worms, in addition to the ovaries of the female worms. BTW5 has an antischistosomal effect on adult and juvenile worms of Oncomelania hupensis.
