Abstract This research examines how faculty members working in complex sociopolitical context cope with campus diversity. Through 20 focus groups comprised of faculty members representing all of the departments at one academic institution, we investigated the participants' experiences with student diversity. The findings show that the protracted Israeli–Palestinian conflict seeps into classroom interactions. This infiltration of the protracted conflict is particularly salient during escalations of the conflict. The participants feel they are unable to address these difficulties, experience isolation, fear, and a lack of support. The study expands understanding of how employees cope with political tensions in a real‐life setting.

Abstract Given the pervasiveness of conflict at work and its potential negative consequences, it is important to know how managers can deal with conflicts constructively. Employees and managers are often required to navigate through a multiplicity of conflicts, including disputes with their supervisors and supervisees of either a cooperative, win–win or competitive, win–lose nature. The goal of this study was to examine how the capacity of South Korean workers to respond adaptively to different or changing types of conflict situations impacts their job‐related well‐being and turnover intentions. Specifically, we hypothesized and found that more adaptive responses to conflict—those that utilize different behavioral strategies that are aligned with the normative demands of presenting conflict situations—were positively related to satisfaction with conflict outcomes, job‐related well‐being, and lower intentions to quit one's job among managers and employees in South Korea. These findings are consistent with those from similar studies in the United States, providing support for the generalizability of the model to other cultural contexts. Theoretical and practical implications of the results as well as directions for future research are discussed.

Abstract The construction industry is recognized for its adversarial culture and frequency of conflict. Previous relationship conflict research has not been collectively summarized or categorized nor have the remaining gaps been identified. This literature review examines common themes and salient issues that emerge from the included studies and provides key insights that include the identification of sources, consequences, and mitigating factors of relationship conflict in the literature. Recommendations are made for the use of these findings to reduce the causes of relationship conflict in the construction industry, lower the negative impact on project performance, and foster efforts to mitigate relationship conflict.

Abstract Certification trainings for court‐annexed mediators have been conducted in Indonesia since 2003; however, the curriculum fails to include domestic and family violence and the impacts of gender and the abuse of power on women and children, which are crucial in a patriarchal country such as Indonesia. The authors contend that it is imperative to include these topics in the curriculum to raise mediators' awareness of the influence of patriarchy, on themselves and the disputants and on the process and outcomes for women and children. The authors assess the development and training of court annexed mediators in Indonesia and recommend changes to the current certification training curriculum, the development of national competency standards and a code of ethics and funding for research.

Abstract This study seeks empirical evidence to answer critical questions surrounding domestic violence (DV) and mediation: Are survivors of DV being coerced into reaching unfair and unsafe agreements? Do all DV behaviors have the same impact on settlement? Does stalking predict impasse less than a history of physical violence? Do survivors feel safe in mediation compared to adjudication or attorney‐negotiated settlement? This study answers these critical questions in order to understand which cases are likely to benefit from mediation. This research empowers screeners, mediators, court employees and attorneys to better discern which cases are most likely to benefit from mediation.

Abstract This article draws on primary sources to examine postconflict transformations in Nigeria's oil region. The overarching goal of the article is to evaluate the impact of Nigeria's disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration program and its effectiveness as a vehicle for peacebuilding in the oil region, focusing specifically on the changes it has brought to the lives of former insurgents at the cultural, intrapersonal, structural, and interpersonal (CISI) levels. This study introduces the CISI model of conflict transformation to put these changes into context and explain why they are crucial for understanding peacebuilding and transformational change.

Abstract Increasing numbers of student teachers, teachers, and teacher educators require training in research‐based knowledge about how to address conflicts in schools. There are also increasing numbers of relevant publications, and hence, a perceived need to map influential theories, methods, and topics that shaped the field of research. To meet this need, a bibliometric study was conducted. The reviewed literature, 608 publications referring to studies by 197 influential authors, was subdivided into two periods: 1996–2010 and 2011–2015. The intellectual structure was examined by author co‐citation analysis. The findings indicate seven clusters of authors from period one and four from period two.

Abstract This research examines “what works” in small claims court alternative dispute resolution (ADR) processes. Using a comprehensive quasi‐experimental design that combines real‐time behavioral observation of authentic small claims court ADR sessions with pre‐ and postintervention questionnaires, the study measures the immediate and long‐term impact of various strategies by third‐party neutrals on party attitudes and case outcomes. Eliciting participant solutions had the broadest range of positive impacts. Greater percentage of time spent in caucus was associated with negative outcomes. Reflecting had short‐term positive associations and neutral offering solutions had long‐term negative associations.

Abstract This research note uses exploratory spatial data analysis (ESDA) to understand regional conflict escalation. This study suggests rethinking the use of strict thresholds of conflict in studies of civil war, given that hot spots are predictors of conflict escalation. In the Colombian case, human rights violations hot spots are predictors of higher intensity conflict escalation.
