Sideloading is defined in the context of smartphones as the download and installation of an application via non-official means, such as a Third-Party Marketplace or repository. Enabling, or disabling the ability to sideload in smartphone eco-systems has the potential for an increase in wider issues such as the prevention of device longevity and digital sustainability. This paper outlines the current research into Sideloading drivers and motivations with discussion on future studies to be conducted.

The paper discusses user-centred design methods to understand and evaluate the impact of guideline changes based on recommendations. It also discusses the impact of working with a clinical expert, and the validation/verification of information. Finally, it compares the outputs of these processes using a set of app recommendations from the Royal College of Physicians. The paper highlights the impact of applying app recommendations and evidences the importance and impact of working with single experts.

The use of a virtual environment to train gas operators has the potential to offer risk-free training. This study tests the usability of a virtual environment specifically designed to teach new gas operatives in near real-life scenarios. Thirty-two participants tested the virtual environment and performed different tasks required to complete gas safety checks. We used SUS (System Usability Scale) and sense of presence questionnaires to collect data from these participants. The SUS analysis indicated that most participants belonging to a different gender, age, and virtual reality experience groups were comfortable in the VR training environment. The sense of presence data analysis also confirmed similar results as all sense of presence factors scored high regardless of the demographics characteristics of the participants. However, there is still a need to add different scenarios to make the virtual environment into a comprehensive training course.

We aim to establish how an alertness to tertiary embodiment (mind-body-artefact) can provide the ground for bringing artefacts to life, catalyse collective knowledge production, facilitate collaboration, and encourage the creative integration of computational and archival thinking. Key examples of engaging with this theory in practice can be seen in the projects of the Arts and Humanities Research Council’s Towards a National Collection research programme. In this workshop we will explore how embodiment can be and has been applied to digital objects and practice in CH collections. We will do this via three interwoven critical interventions: digital objects (digital collections, interfaces, tangible computing), situated interaction (how context shapes meaning) and virtual connections (collaboration and communication in digital rather than physical space (Computer-supported Cooperative Work (CSCW), crowd-sourcing and citizen research, knowledge-sharing).

The paper will focus in particular on shemza.digital, a digital and interactive participatory art project created by Aphra Shemza and Stuart Batchelor. The project was funded by Arts Council England and based on the work of the British/Pakistani painter Anwar Jalal Shemza.

By influencing and manipulating our human behaviour particularly the decisions we make and opinions we form, it is polarising our existence in not only the virtual but also the physical world in which we live. Yet, despite being aware of the destructive nature of misinformation in general, many of us still don’t seem to understand/ see the full danger on an individual basis. Hence, as we have witnessed during Covid 19, many people still continue to share this misinformation widely. The authors of this paper feel that there is an urgent need to support people in being more aware of false information whilst online. In this paper, we share thoughts around some of the mechanisms that people currently use to identify misinformation online. In particular, the focus is on a study that explores participant’s experiences of ten different visualisation effects on a Facebook page. The findings highlight that some of these initial visualisation designs are more effective than the others in informing people that something is not quite what it should be. Like in the physical world, we propose the design of a set of affective online visual warnings and cautions that we hope can be further developed to fight online misinformation and counter it’s current negative influence on society.
