This experimental study was focused on use of CuNO3 as a fuel additive with butanol-diesel blends in diesel engine and its effects on fuel specifications and emission characteristics. With this purpose, CuNO3 nano additive was mixed with diesel-butanol and each test fuel was analyzed to determine fuel specifications (density, viscosity, Cetane number, heating values and copper strip corrosion). A four stroke, four cylinder direct injection diesel engine was conducted to perform the test fuels. In conclusions, CuNO3 nano additive with diesel-butanol blends improved the fuel specifications and exhaust emission characteristics of diesel engine.

In this paper, the homogenization approach was presented to predict the effective mechanical properties of heterogeneous materials such as composite materials. Indeed, the main idea of this approach is to characterize the effective mechanical properties from a microstructural description of the heterogeneous materials and the knowledge of the local behavior of constituents using the homogenization process. It is a very efficient tool which is intensively developed in the field of numerical simulation of heterogeneous materials. Different scheme established from the solution of Eshelby’s inclusion problem are recalled such as Mori-Tanaka scheme, dilute scheme and Voigt and Reuss bounds. Homogenization approach was applied to estimate the effective mechanical properties of tungsten fiber reinforced bulk metallic glass matrix composite. Predicted values were confronted with those obtained by experimental approach from literature. These comparisons show good agreement between the predicted and experimental values. The maximum deviations remain lower than 10.5% using Voigt bound. A parametric study shows that the mechanical properties depend strongly on the shape of inclusions.

The aim of this paper is to analyze theoretically and experimentally the stator current of an induction machine operating with mixed faults: broken rotor bars and dynamic eccentricity (DE). An analytical explanation of the generation mechanism of all frequencies related to the simultaneous presence of these two defects is given. It is demonstrated that DE diagnosis is very difficult if only stator current analysis is used. Experimental results have been presented to validate the analytical and simulation results.

In this study, Random and Harmonic vibration test specifications for Automotive Lighting systems are compared according to their damage content. Harmonic and Random vibration specifications which have different durations and Acceleration Power Spectrum Densities (PSD G) are plotted and compared according to damage accumulated on one degree of freedom (SDOF) system. Outcome of this study is the evaluation of fatigue strength of common or similar parts used on lighting systems which are dedicated to different customers, different car segments; and evaluation of the severity of new customer vibration durability test specifications and evaluation of special design precautions for new design projects. Shorter duration PSD G’s and Harmonic tests which have equivalent Fatigue Damage Spectrums (FDS) can be created and instant design modifications can be tested and evaluated. In addition, in this study, random test time reduction formula was validated with physical tests.

This work presents manufacturing of glass/polypropylene commingled yarns and analysis of low velocity impact (15J, 25J, and 35J) and compression after impact (CAI) performance of thermoset and thermoplastic composites produced from the hybrid commingled yarns. Hybrid commingled yarns were produced through an air jet nozzle at different air pressures. Results showed that commingled yarn tenacity and mixture quality were highly affected by changing the air pressures. Impact tests indicated that thermoplastic composites absorbed around 73-80% of the impact energy while thermoset composites absorbed 39-41%. CAI tests presented that thermoplastic composite had higher residual strength with a different failure mechanism under compressive loading.

Refrigerant R134a (tetrafluoroethane) is widely used in automotive air conditioners and has a good performance. However, since refrigerant R134a still has a high global warming potential (GWP), this refrigerant must be replaced with environmentally friendly refrigerants such as R600a (isobutane), which is a natural fluid, no effect on the climate, inexpensive and readily available. In this study, thermodynamic analysis of a bus air conditioner working with refrigerant R600a was performed. Adana province of Turkey was chosen as the study region. Firstly, a bus used for inter-city passenger transportation with a passenger capacity of 56 persons was selected. Cooling Load Hourly Analysis Program (HAP) was used to determine the hourly cooling load capacity of the selected inter-city bus model. Useful and reversible works of compressor, coefficient of performance (COP), exergy efficiency and exergy destructions of the bus air conditioning system were obtained and evaluated in detail.

In this study, heat transfer enhancement of laminar pulsating flow in wavy channel is investigated numerically . The wavy channel has constant wall temperature and its geometric parameters are fixed. Finite volume method based on SIMPLE technique is used to solve governing equations. Simulations performed for Reynolds numbers in the range of 200≤Re≤800. The effects of pulsation frequency is investigated for Strouhal numbers, (St) of 0.05, 0.15 and 0.25. The differences between flow structures of pulsating and steady flow are discussed. Results indicate that the pulsating flow significantly enhances heat transfer.
