The Young Professionals in Circuits and Systems (YPCAS) event at PRIME 2025 offered an inspiring and interactive space for reflection, learning, and connection among early-career researchers and engineers in the IEEE Circuits and Systems community. Held on 23 September 2025, in Taormina, Italy, the session focused on professional growth, mental well-being, and resilience. The event blended practical coaching, interactive activities, and open discussion. It successfully fostered self-leadership, inclusion, and mentorship within the young professional community of CASS, aligning closely with the Society’s commitment to holistic professional development.

This paper aims to address the typical needs met in designing Bio/CMOS interfaces for the remote monitoring of human metabolism. In particular, the design of robust and reliable interfaces for wearable, implantable, or point-of-care devices is considered as model application. Selectivity, sensitivity, and autonomy of such devices are introduced and discussed as the main features of such personal tools for health monitoring. The typical solutions presented in literature to assure the right selectivity, sensitivity, and autonomy are discussed in detail. Some of those solutions are on board in many technologies introduced into the market already, demonstrating the feasibility of such design approach obtained by integrating three system’ layers: bio, nano, and CMOS (Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor). These largely spread technologies for personal health monitoring (e.g., the glucose auto-monitoring devices for chronic patients with diabetes) provide distributed diagnostics in term of billions of connected devices. Billions of connected personal devices worldwide distributed oblige to consider the several issues related to sustainability in term of minimal environmental impact. Therefore, the paper also introduces some new emerging design strategies by modular design, substrates made of recycled plastic or bioplastics by crop waste, and biodegradable materials.

Measurement of a qubit (quantum bit) is a key element of quantum computation and is necessary for extracting information from a quantum processor. The physical implementation of a measurement protocol involves monitoring a physical quantity of a sensor, such as a current or a voltage, that is correlated with the state of the qubit to be measured. The monitoring of these sensors used to measure qubits in modern quantum computer architectures is typically divided between RF reflectometry and current/voltage monitoring. There are tradeoffs involved with both approaches for the reliable and accurate readout of qubits when it comes to scalable quantum computing architectures. In this article, we will review the working principles of a selection of sensors that are used to measure the state of qubits in semiconductors. The goal is to introduce electronic engineers with little or no background in quantum computing to the working principles of charge sensors in semiconductor quantum computers, their identification in various physical systems, and an overview of their design tradeoffs when measuring a qubit. This will allow electronic engineers to begin working with physics literature in the field of charge sensing.
