Greetings, YP readers! I hope your 2026 is off to a great start. Our EMC Society YP volunteers have been busy finalizing the details for our major events this year. In fact, 2026 will be the first year we hold YP events at all three major conferences sponsored by our Society: APEMC, the EMC+SIPI Symposium, and EMC Europe. If you're a YP and plan to attend one (or more) of these events, don't forget to sign up and seize the opportunity to meet other YPs. Relationships formed within the EMC Society can lead to future collaborations and provide valuable contacts when you need a friend to bounce ideas off.

The EMC Society launched in 2022 a new publication, the IEEE Transactions on Signal and Power Integrity, co-sponsored by MTTS, CEDA, and EP-S, and led by the Editor-in-Chief Prof. Jun Fan. This journal is the perfect location for hosting scientific and research papers addressing all aspects of signal and power integrity of an electronic system and its components, ranging from integrated circuits and packages to PCBs, from cables and connectors to microelectronic components. Moreover, the latest advancements in the theory, algorithms, design approaches and modeling for ensuring the fidelity and performance of digital, analog, and hybrid electronic systems and sub-systems are the main subjects appearing in the papers published in the past three years.

For the upcoming IEEE elections, the Nominations and Appointments (N&A) Committee has nominated Dr. Vignesh Rajamani—former President and now Immediate Past President of the IEEE Electromagnetic Compatibility Society—as a candidate for Division IV Director-Elect.

The process of designing Power Delivery Networks (PDNs) for the systems having very high dynamic current requirements is always very challenging, as during their design process the SI/PI engineers have to address many other significant issues apart from the basic issues of designing the PDN. One such challenge is to assess the quality of power in the system by accurate simulations of the PDNs in a time-efficient manner. In the current-generation high-speed systems, there are multicore processors which use multiple PDNs, and therefore the complexity of simulations becomes a bottleneck in the design process. Efficient simulation techniques are helpful to address such issues and can significantly help to fasten the overall design process of the PDNs.

With this personality profile, I introduce you to David A. Weston, a distinguished EMC engineer and consultant with over four decades of experience. Originally from the United Kingdom, Weston studied at Croydon Technical College between 1960 and 1965, earning a Radio and Television certifi cate from the City and Guilds of the London Institute. His career began with hands-on radio and television repair work and evolved into pioneering EMC design on major international projects, such as NASA's Canadarm and advanced military aircraft systems.

Wearable Internet of Things (IoT) devices are smart gadgets that you can wear on your body. These devices connect to the internet and can track health-related data such as your heart rate, steps, sleep, or other metrics. Since the communicating antenna embedded in the wearable devices works in proximity to the human body, performance degradation of the antenna is expected. Besides this issue, electromagnetic radiation exposure must be considered in the design of these wearables. The first paper, “Electromagnetic Compatibility for Wearable IoT Devices: A Review,” provides a concise review of the use of artificial magnetic surfaces (AMC) in IoT wearables to enhance their functional performance, as well as reduce the electromagnetic energy absorbed by the body.

Electrified railway systems are composed of power converters and multiple critical subsystems. These converters onboard rolling stock can be potential electromagnetic interference (EMI) sources that degrade the performance of railway signaling, traffic control, and end-user interfaces. The first paper, “Investigation of Magnetic Field Radiated Emission from Swedish Rolling Stock using Experimental Measurements in the Range of 9 to 150 kHz”, describes time-domain measurements and time-frequency analysis of the radiated emission of a train to minimize the uncertainties of repeatable and reproducible measurement results in the frequency range of 9 to 150 kHz, so that an accurate maximum radiated emission spectrum of the train can be obtained for EMI analysis.
