ABSTRACTThe optimal path choice theory from biology implies that foragers should evaluate all sites before selecting something feasible when site relocation costs are low and there are few sites to explore. In internet information foraging, although the cost of moving to another site is negligible, the number of relevant sites can be large and exploration costs vary. We examine human internet information foraging behaviors and propose a model relating them to established cognitive measures.

ABSTRACTWe examine whether Chief Information Officers’ (CIOs’) political skill enhances their IT and business knowledge as a means of influencing executive teams’ commitment to strategic and operational IT initiatives. We empirically examine these relationships using data collected from 139 CIOs. The results suggest CIOs’ business and IT knowledge is significantly related to influencing executive team commitment to strategic and operational IT initiatives, but political skill only enhances business knowledge for influencing executive team commitment to operational IT initiatives.

ABSTRACTThis article provides valuable information on the chances and the possibilities of Business Intelligence applying in organizations. Three theories—the Resource-Based View, Maturity Models, and Critical Success Factors—were used to investigate Business Intelligence issues. They provided a comprehensive view on Business Intelligence. Using a semi-structured interview method, the results from 20 organizations applying Business Intelligence are presented. Finally, based on the analysis of the literature and on the qualitative surveys, conclusions for future research in Business Intelligence are provided.

The present research identifies and defines value management practices that can help to accommodate and organize IS investments in order to secure and maximize their value-creating potential. Drawing on the resource-based view, we developed a conceptual model organizing 25 unique practices as part of three distinct competences (structural, process, and relational) that are integrated and mobilized through an overarching Value Management Capability. Findings are based on a literature review and exploratory case study.

Managers aim to explain how and why IT creates business value, recognize their IT-based capabilities, and select the appropriate IT to enhance and leverage those capabilities. This article synthesizes the Organizational Information Processing Theory and Resource-Based View into a descriptive typology of IT roles. On the basis of these roles, the core features and functions of IT resources can be analyzed and linked to business objectives. Implications and areas for future research are discussed.

Effective Information Quality Management (IQM) is still relatively poorly understood. As such, there is a gap in the literature regarding Critical Success Factors (CSFs) for IQM. This article presents 11 CSFs for effective IQM as identified through seven case studies and one ethnographic study. The CSF framework for IQM presented in this article adds to extant Information Systems (IS) theory, and may aid practitioners in the development of more effective IQM strategies.
