In recent years, many internet of things (IoT) platforms based on cloud computing have been proposed for general purpose applications. Though many similar platforms or schemes particular for smart home applications have been proposed, many issues such as multiple connectivity due to diversity of smart home applications and supporting for real-time operations have not been solved properly. We propose a smart home foundation scheme adopting open source hardware devices and cloud computing technology to explore these issues. In this scheme, Arduino Yun-based smart hardware devices can connect to the cloud server through multiple network connectivity. By utilising Spacebrew technology, a bidirectional real-time communication can be implemented which provides a solid foundation for real-time operations of smart home. The core functions of the scheme are exposed through RESTful web services in a SaaS (short for software as a service) manner and can be called by various clients and other applications. Demonstrative applications show that the proposed smart home foundation scheme provides adequate support for creating smart home applications based on wireless open source hardware devices.

Emergency medical treatment is an important component of public health, and its service quality is directly related to people's health and safety. But in the traditional emergency medical service mode, the relevant departments are relatively isolated and dispersive, which results in vital information cannot be shared in real-time. This study argues the application architecture and framework of a new cooperative emergency medical service system (CEMSS). The system enables effective information communication among emergency command centre (ECC), ambulances and the hospital dispatching centre, and makes doctors in the ambulances with experts of the hospital related departments work in synergy. The mobile app based on Android operating system is developed to promote convenience and flexibility. The proposed system can help doctors shorten the treatment time, improve the service quality and reduce the damage for patients.

Cloud computing is an evolving standard that delivers computing and storage possessions as a service over the internet. One of the major key concerns is load balancing in multi cloud domain, which is NP-hard optimisation problem. In this paper, we proposed a biogeography-based load balancing algorithm BB-LBA, which balances the load across geographically distributed datacentres and virtual machines for maximising the throughput. We derive Markov models for biogeography-based load balancing in multi cloud domain with migration and mutation operators. A comparative experiments with GA, PSO and HBB-LB is conducted, and the results show that our proposed BB-LBA algorithm outperforms the other in term of response time, number of task migrations and waiting time of tasks in queue.

Authorising data to administrative control through third-party, is employed in the cloud, gives growth to security concerns. The data mollification may occur due to attacks by other users and nodes within the cloud. Therefore, high safety measures are essential to protect data within the cloud. In this paper, we present a new security primitive based on hard AI problems explicitly novel relations of a graphical secret key system built on top of Captcha technology, which we call Captcha as graphical passwords (Carp). CaRP also narrative an approach to address the familiar image hotspot problem in popular graphical password systems, such as PassPoints, that often leads to weak password choices. The DROP methodology fragments the file and replicates the fragmented data over the cloud nodes. Each of the nodes stores only a single fragment of a particular data that pledges that even if there should be an attack no substantial data is uncovered to the attacker. Furthermore, the nodes storing the fragments are divided with certain expanse by means of graph T-colouring to prohibit an attacker of predicting the locations of the fragments. So, this paper extends DROP methodology with AES algorithm to protect the outsourced data in the cloud and integrate them with CaRP to improve the online security by 14.4%.

Internet of Things IoT is a model of future internet and pervasive computing which have its own challenges derived from the internet in terms of scalability, undefined topology and so on. The proposed work aims to resolve the challenges posed by IoT in service discovery functionality. Considering the pervasive and context dependent nature of IoT the planned work bases its development strategy using an aspect oriented software development methodology. The novelty lies in achieving high degree configuration and customisability by selecting subset of middleware functionality depending on the need. The performance is compared with MUSIC pervasive computing middleware and Android built-in configuration. The result reveals 6.5% decrease on average boot up and reconfiguration time for smart phones and 11.6% percentage decrease in Android tablets. In the context of boot up and reconfiguration time the middleware brings out 5% decrease for smart phones and 3% for Android tablets when compared with MUSIC middleware. The middleware shows 6.3% and 4% reduction in execution time of applications on smart phones and tablets when assessed with MUSIC middleware.

Certificate-based encryption is a useful primitive that combines identity-based encryption and traditional public key encryption while preserving some of their most attractive features. It not only simplifies the cumbersome certificate management in traditional public key encryption, but also overcomes the key escrow and distribution problems inherent in identity-based encryption. In this paper, we extend the concept of key encapsulation mechanism to the primitive of certificate-based encryption and introduce the notion of certificate-based key encapsulation mechanism. We propose two provably secure certificate-based key encapsulation mechanism schemes. We prove that one is chosen-ciphertext secure in the random oracle model and the other is chosen-ciphertext secure in the standard model. Performance analysis shows that the proposed schemes are quite efficient and practical.

E-learning is a learning system that has become a trend in education nowadays. One of the applications that is often used is Moodle. In this research, the authors designed an OERI application to support the learning material. The application uses the technique of service-oriented architecture in the search for educational services in three repositories which are DBPedia, Ariadne and OpenLearn. The application itself will be installed as plugins in Moodle. The focus in this research is the support of the educational material in the three educational repositories used which concerns how the three educational repositories can produce a relevant educational material document with the desired query. The measurement uses precision to measure the accuracy of the query, and along with it we will also measure the number of documents retrieved, and the number of documents types retrieved. Then these results will be used to compare the three educational repositories.

Peer-to-peer (P2P) is a growing technology offering an affordable platform to deploy distributed services and streaming of multimedia content through peer-to-peer television (P2PTV). Nevertheless, to promote such technology it is necessary to provide a solid streaming quality assessment mechanism. In this context, legacy solutions tied to service level agreements are no longer suitable, as for P2P systems, the service consumers become an active part by assisting in the service delivery. To overcome this limitation, we present a generic multi-layer monitoring and management framework to assess the quality of service (QoS) and the quality of experience (QoE) of multimedia traffic in any P2PTV streaming application. We also demonstrate the usefulness of our solution, by analysing the performance of a real streaming application in a P2PTV environment.

In order to support and provide resources to various applications, in this paper, we propose a dynamic dynamic routing for WDM based wireless mesh networks (WMNs). To choose an optimised route, cost metric (CM) and load utilisation matrix (LUM) are constructed dynamically. Using LUM, load utilisation rating (LUR) for each link is calculated. At last, CM is calculated from LUR. The minimum value of CM is chosen to construct the path between source and destination. The value of CM is compared with existing hop count metric. The proposed algorithm is simulated on two well-known WDM-based networks, NSFNet and EON. The results obtained show that the proposed algorithm is quite effective to route the packets to less congested path and has higher throughput and less blocking probability than the other proposed algorithms.
