Physical differences are part of human life, some are physically disadvantaged while others physically advantaged. According to information from World Health Organization (WHO), 15% of the world’s population has some kind of disability, which in numbers represents more than one billion people. Yet all should have equal opportunities and access to resources despite these differences. Libraries are not an exception in providing equal opportunities in service provision to all whether advantaged or disadvantaged. According to the regulatory and legal framework including the UNESCO Manifesto, United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disability, laws on libraries and accessibility of different IFLA members, and other protocols, library services should be provided on the basis of equal access to everyone. This paper focused on the challenges affecting physically disadvantaged users in accessing library services in polytechnics and how these libraries have responded to inclusivity in terms of service delivery. Particular reference was given to one polytechnic. A mixed method approach was used with a sample of 180 respondents that was purposively selected for the study. Structured questionnaires and semi-structured interviews were used to generate data. Findings revealed that the library was lagging behind in offering inclusive services that offer equal opportunities to all users despite physical differences. This has resulted in discrimination on service delivery. The paper recommended library policies on inclusivity and practical implementation, establishment of disability resource centers, as well as a holistic approach from decision makers of the polytechnic and parent ministry to improve service delivery on the physically disadvantaged users.

Ethical practices among information professionals in academic libraries are vital for effective and equitable service delivery. Such practices involve ensuring equal access to information, maintaining data accuracy, protecting user privacy, and safeguarding intellectual property. However, gaps remain due to limited resources and insufficient training, resulting in inconsistent ethical standards. This study investigated the awareness and implementation of ethical practices in academic libraries through a cross-sectional design involving 136 respondents. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were employed across selected libraries. Results showed that most information professionals exhibited high awareness of equal user treatment, data protection, and adherence to service standards. Nonetheless, there was limited awareness regarding advising users on the difference between accessible and restricted resources, indicating areas needing targeted intervention. Statistical analysis using chi-square tests (χ2 = 117.9, df = 3, p = 0.000) demonstrated significant variation in awareness across ethical dimensions. One-way ANOVA further revealed notable differences in the extent of ethical practice execution (p < 0.05). The study concludes that while overall awareness is strong, specific aspects like verifying information accuracy and intellectual property protection require enhanced focus. It recommends that library management develop clear ethical guidelines and implement ongoing training to standardize and strengthen ethical practices.

This case study explores the transformation of study room reservations at the Oklahoma State University (OSU) Libraries. Initially reliant on manual methods, the library transitioned to vendor-supported software and would later develop a custom, open source user interface (UI) to streamline booking efficiency. These improvements help demonstrate the effectiveness of tailored solutions in meeting user needs and improving system functionality for all stakeholders.

In various countries, public libraries play a crucial role in supporting citizens’ access to public online services. In Finland, libraries provide both traditional library services and digital support to help customers access their personal bank accounts and health records. However, the impact these new support demands on librarians’ expertise and work remains understudied. To address this gap, we interviewed 21 librarians, exploring their experiences in providing digital access services. Qualitative thematic analysis of the transcripts revealed four situational dimensions of digital care work, which encompasses ethical and emotional aspects. We also recommend some best practices for digital access services.

The purpose of this study is to explore how the shift work model impacts library workers and if the model is necessary and sustainable for the future. Given the potential for emotional exhaustion and burnout, the academic library needs to be able to meet student needs and continue to be mindful of employee health. The article explores the challenges of shift work, including late shifts, as academic libraries adapt to a post-pandemic world. A mixed methods survey was distributed to library staff, to self-assess levels of emotional exhaustion, work-life balance, and sleep.
