This study examines the impact of programming instruction using collaborative learning techniques on secondary school students’ programming self-efficacy and self-regulation skills. The participants were 43 sixth-grade students from a public school in Türkiye during the 2024-2025 academic year. A quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test control groups was used. For eight weeks, the experimental group received two hours per week of programming and problem-solving instruction through collaborative learning, while the control group followed standard curriculum methods. Data were collected using the Perceived Self-Regulation Scale and the Programming Self-Efficacy Scale, and analyzed with the Dependent Samples t-test, the Independent Samples t-test, the Mann-Whitney U test, and the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test in SPSS. Results showed that the experimental group had significantly higher programming self-efficacy and self-regulation skills than the control group. These findings indicate that collaborative learning approaches can effectively improve both cognitive and metacognitive skills in secondary school programming education.

This meta-analysis examined 137 thesis studies on writing interventions in Turkish schools. After removing outliers, overall effect sizes were calculated from 129 studies (627 test results) for writing outcomes, 103 studies for quality, and 32 studies for attitude. Robust variance estimation was used to address dependency in studies reporting multiple effect sizes. Results showed large effects on writing outcomes (g = 1.17) and quality (g = 1.43), with moderate effects on attitudes toward writing (g = 0.59). Among interventions, Self-Regulated Strategy Development, graphic organizers, pre-writing strategies, process approach, strategy teaching, text-based teaching, and various text structure instructions had larger effects. Meta-regression models revealed genre instruction studies had larger effects on quality, while studies with two different teacher implementers showed larger effects on attitude. Grade level+genre-based and pilot study+genre-based+grade level models explained 16% of variance in writing quality. These findings provide an evidence-based framework for effective writing instruction.

The concept of media literacy has developed into a sophisticated and dynamic field which attracts researchers from social science disciplines including communication and education. Multiple scholars have tried to define media literacy, but their definitions show both disciplinary viewpoints and changing communication requirements. The emergence of new media and multimodal communication requires a redefinition of current media literacy frameworks. This research conducts a systematic review of media literacy and new media literacy research to identify major similarities and differences and emerging trends through qualitative analysis of academic studies. The article examines the educational aspects of social media through multiple academic disciplines. Social media literacy requires immediate attention, yet experts disagree about the essential principles needed to develop educational programs. The main difference between traditional media literacy and new media literacy lies in their focus on content analysis versus user-generated content creation. The research provides a fresh understanding of social media literacy by identifying both commonalities and distinctions between media literacy and social media literacy.

This study investigates the effect of virtual manipulatives on 7th-grade students’ academic achievement in the multiplication and division of integers. A quasi-experimental design with a post-test control group was employed. The study involved 30 students assigned to experimental and control groups based on readiness level equivalence. The experimental group received instruction supported by virtual manipulatives, while the control group was taught using traditional teacher-centered methods. Data were collected through a readiness test and two researcher-developed achievement tests on multiplication and division of integers. Independent samples t-tests were used to analyze the data. The findings indicated a statistically significant improvement in the multiplication performance of the experimental group compared to the control group, whereas no significant difference was found in division performance. The results suggest that virtual manipulatives can effectively enhance students’ conceptual understanding and success in specific mathematical operations.
