Despite the proliferation of a sizeable stream of management literature studying the relationship between strategic leader diversity (such as gender, race and age) and organizational diversity outcomes, the findings remain inconclusive and divided with regard to the nature of the relationship. To address this concern, we perform a systematic literature review of empirical research testing this relationship in management journals. In our review, we summarize and integrate extant empirical and theoretical research on the connection between strategic leader diversity and organizational diversity outcomes, provide a comprehensive, multilevel theoretical model based on past research and suggest unconventional insights to guide future management scholars. Our integrative review identifies important core theories and perspectives connecting these two literatures, such as social identity, critical mass, tokenism and inter-group relations. We organize the key findings emerging from this integration into four prominent themes (critical impact areas, critical enablers or inhibitors, critical theoretical underpinnings and scope of impact) to provide a novel insight into this stream of research. Finally, we offer several avenues for future research to scholars from management and social sciences disciplines to address some pertinent gaps identified in this literature.

This article seeks to define and conceptualize the concept of a capitalist dictatorship by identifying its characteristics and indicators. It argues that these features emerge primarily from and relate to the extreme concentration of wealth and power in capital, resulting in the systemic control, domination and coercion of non-capital factors. The article contrasts this form of economic non-democracy with models of industrial and political democracy, drawing attention to indicators such as low levels of unionization, limited union coverage, the absence of collective bargaining and the lack of labour collective representation in corporate governance (i.e., codetermination). It also introduces and considers certain approximations or manifestations of capitalist dictatorship. The article aims to make both theoretical and practical contributions to the literature by introducing and elaborating on the concept to get a better understanding of capitalist dictatorship.

This essay critiques the trend in consumer research that deliberately excludes subjects considered exceptional. Drawing from multiple traditions in sociological literature, we analyse the interaction of factors that create persistent paradoxes in social imaginaries - paradoxes that have also impacted the academic community. While the majority of scholarly publications tend to take a reductionist view of consumer concerns, the vulnerabilities faced by queer groups and sex workers are largely ignored, with sex workers being pushed to the absolute margins. The relentless pursuit of tokenism, quantified by novel contributions or citations, has further marginalized invisible narratives of hope and resilience. The article advocates for a more inclusive approach in the development of new areas of consumer research, particularly in the domains of macro marketing, public policy, and transformational consumer research.

This study critically investigates the impact of sleep deprivation on the well-being of shift workers in a Mumbai-based manufacturing facility, highlighting a significant yet often overlooked occupational health concern. Employing a robust, two-phase mixed-methods approach, phase 1 quantitatively assessed the sleep patterns, quality and daytime sleepiness of 85 shop floor workers using sleep diaries, Fitbit wristbands, Actigraphy and validated tools such as the Epworth Sleepiness Scale and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. Phase 2 comprised in-depth qualitative interviews with 14 workers experiencing poor sleep, alongside interviews with four plant managers and family members. Thematic analysis of the interview data revealed a compelling narrative: shift work fundamentally disrupts circadian rhythms, precipitating irregular sleep patterns, chronic sleep deprivation and a marked decline in workers’ physical and psychological well-being. The study also identifies effective strategies to mitigate the adverse effects of shift work. It contributes valuable insights, proposing a framework for future studies to develop targeted, evidence-based interventions that address the critical issue of sleep deprivation among shift workers.

The impact of several organizational and employee-related factors on the occupational well-being of employees has been well acknowledged. However, there is a lack of comprehensive research that examines these causal relationships within a unified structural model, particularly in the context of an economic crisis. Thus, the originality of this study lies in the examination of the effect of economic crises on work-related attitudes and occupational well-being of employees. In other words, this study addresses the current research gap by constructing a comprehensive research model, integrating key aspects that significantly impact employee well-being. The proposed and tested new research model incorporates 5 factors and 15 subfactors. The final sample, comprising 297 valid questionnaires, was filled in by employees and line managers. One crucial conclusion that contributes to the existing literature is that the negative consequences of the crisis did not severely affect employees’ emotional health. Nevertheless, occupational well-being is directly affected by employees’ attitudes and their (negative) emotional state. On the other hand, positive emotions affect occupational well-being indirectly. Overall, the general model can explain 36% of employee behaviour related parameter variance and 37% of occupational well-being variance, while the detailed model can explain 64% of employee behaviour parameter variance, 39% of burnout variance, 38% of depersonalization variance, and 14% of personal achievement variance. This article is structured around five main sections, namely introduction, theoretical framework and hypotheses, research methodology, data analysis and results and conclusions, followed by managerial implications.

Given the pandemic that hit the world, there was suddenly an increased focus on E-learning. This study aimed at determining the various factors that influence the youth of India to opt for E-learning. This study was conceptualized based on the technology acceptance model and integrating social influence (SI) and perceived enjoyment (PE) as additional constructs to determine the attitude (AT) and behavioural intention (BI) towards E-learning. The study also proposes a basic framework of knowledge for E-learning, a shift from traditional classroom learning, which is not researched adequately in previous literature. The sample for this research study were postgraduate students drawn by non-probability judgment and snowball sampling. Data analysis was performed using structural equation modelling, cross-tabulation and Pearson correlation with the help of SPSS Amos software. The results of the study concluded that AT significantly mediates between perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, SI, PE, and BI. Additionally, the study determined the classroom and E-learning preferences of students comparatively.

The salesforce control system plays an important role in salesforce performance and organization effectiveness. This study investigates the influence of behaviour-based and outcome-based control systems on eight performance-related variables. Data have been collected from sales executives of pharmaceutical companies in India on the basis of a self-administered survey. A standardized close-ended survey instrument was utilized to gather the data. Post screening, a usable sample of 346 responses was analysed by employing partial least square structural equation modelling. The results indicate that although both kinds of salesforce control systems are acceptable, the behaviour-based one appears to be slightly better. Academic and managerial implications are discussed in this article.

Universities are institutions governed by management principles and practices. Understanding the factors affecting the trust students repose in universities can provide useful insights into the management of these organizations. This study intends to investigate the factors that contribute to the trust students have in universities, specifically in terms of how well the institution prepares students for employment. For this, the study has used Estonia-based data from the Eurostudent-VII survey to examine the perceptions students have. Factors have been identified using factor analysis techniques and the substantiated effect these factors have on student trust using structural equation modelling. The study revealed that the level of trust students have in their university is influenced by student–teacher relations as well as career-support services. The interest taken by lecturers in what students have to say and their willingness to motivate their students to do their best, coupled with the assistance provided to students to help balance their studies, family, and paid work, all have a positive impact on students’ trust in universities for future employment. In addition to fostering academic discourse on student trust in the Estonian context of trust literature, the findings of this study have implications for university policies and practices, suggesting the importance of nurturing positive relationships between students and teachers, as well as providing relevant and high-quality career services.

This paper aims to investigate the effects of new public management reforms on human resource practices of a public organization in Jordan, a Middle Eastern country in the developing world. The data was collected from fifteen purposeful semi-structured interviews in the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM), one of Jordan’s biggest public organizations. The data was analyzed using thematic analysis (i.e., a coding technique). The findings revealed the challenges and gaps in Human Resource (HR) practices from gaps in implementing New Public Management (NPM) reforms which weakened the performance of the public organization. The discussion and conclusion are presented at the end.

Organizational research has increased in the contemporary, digitalized and global society. Mainly researchers in Western countries conducted empirical, organizational research in the past. These studies have investigated combinations of psychological safety, knowledge sharing and leaders’ expression of humility because these variables have crucial roles in organizational functions. Japanese research on these variables has been scarce due to the lack of scales for assessing these variables in Japanese. From a methodological perspective, research conducted in Western and other cultures where most people understand English requires multicultural validation studies. Therefore, we developed Japanese versions of scales assessing psychological safety, knowledge sharing and expressed humility and assessed their structural validity, internal consistency and convergent validity. The results indicated factor structures and inter-correlations between the scales consistent with previous research. This work is novel because of its large samples across multiple job types in contemporary work organizations. We expect this study to make methodological and theoretical contributions to future research.
