Political decisions made under geopolitical conditions significantly influence global digital‎ ecosystems, as illustrated by the U.S. ban on TikTok and Germany’s withdrawal of advertising from the‎ platform X (formerly Twitter). This study identifies and predicts patterns of digital platform fragmentation ‎emerging from such politically driven interventions. By integrating social network analysis, sentiment ‎analysis, and predictive modelling, the research connects regulatory behaviour, public sentiment,‎ and predictive scenarios to demonstrate how political and corporate strategies jointly reshape global‎ communication structures. The findings reveal deep polarisation of public opinion on digital regulation, ‎while predictive results suggest that ongoing fragmentation may accelerate the formation of regional‎ platforms and increase digital isolation. The paper concludes with recommendations for policymakers to‎ develop adaptable legal and governance frameworks capable of addressing the geopolitical complexity ‎of contemporary digital environments.‎

This contribution aims to address risks and opportunities for cultural diversity resulting from ‎platforms’ personalisation tools based on a legal analysis of the main provisions of the European Union‎ General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) on consumer profiling and automated decisions, as well as ‎a sample of data protection policies of selected streaming platforms. It examines how the latter may in‎ practice affect the protection of consumers’ personal data for the purpose of recommending personalised ‎audio-visual and music content online and how such provisions relate to the discoverability of a‎ diversified cultural offer online and, at the European level, the obligation for platforms to give prominence‎ to European works in their catalogues. The paper shows that a lot may still be done to improve the‎ transparency of algorithms used for personalisation purposes and to provide users with greater control of‎ their data, as required by the GDPR.‎

Analiza sadržaja provedena‎je na sljedećim dokumentarnim filmovima: True Cost, The Next Black, Slow Down Fast Fashion,‎Unravel, River Blue i Do we change it? Ethical fashion documentary.

Data journalism is one way to provide readers with objective and relevant reports. The study ‎is a content analysis of the use of data journalism by Slovak online news portals. The research sample ‎consists of 11,267 articles published during February 2020, February 2019, June 2019 and November‎2019. The aim was to use a quantitative research strategy to determine whether significant policy events ‎have an impact on the higher frequency of data journalism components in domestic news. The results ‎show that data journalism is an integral part of newsrooms. Despite this, the use of data faces several‎ problems, especially in terms of journalists’ lack of skills and experience in this area of journalism. This ‎is also reflected in the limits of the use of data journalism in reporting on an influential agenda that‎ has an impact on public and political life. Newsrooms do not respond adequately to the presence of a‎ significant political and public agenda, which is mainly processed in the form of text articles, while more‎ sophisticated components of data journalism are used only sporadically.‎

Komercijalni privatni radiji dominiraju hrvatskim radijskim krajolikom.

Digital high-choice media environments (Prior, 2007; Van Aelst et al., 2017) lead to fragmented and polarized news consumption. The concept of news repertoires was introduced to analyze media use in a cross-media environment. News repertoires were found to be diverse across countries, to be dependent on age groups, socioeconomic status, and to have effects on political knowledge and participation (Diehl et al., 2018; Edgerly et al., 2018; Strömbäck et al., 2018; Wolfsfeld et al., 2016). The aim of this study is to identify different news repertoires in Croatia and to test the effects of generational belonging and socioeconomic status on the formation of these repertoires. It has been shown over time that age and political interest are more important predictors of increasingly diversified and polarized news consumption (Bergström et al., 2019; Strömbäck et al., 2013). This study discusses the interplay of sociodemographic factors and political interest in driving news consumption across different generations. The analysis is based on data from Reuters Digital News Survey conducted in Croatia in 2018. Latent class analysis is used to identify news repertoires and the covariates which form them. The analysis resulted in identifying five news repertoires: minimalists, digital-born users, traditionalists, commercial media users and eclectics.

In our hyper-connected digitised educational world, university tutors are interested in capitalising on affordances of digital trends in teaching and learning. Students, under the alias of preservice- teachers, walk among them equipped with digital skills in areas of their interest. How can we encourage collaboration between tutors and students that can promote the use of the digital force wisely, support the development of students’ professional identities further and extend tutors’ digital competences? The story of nine tutors and eleven undergraduate pre-service-teachers working together on digital partnerships is set against discussions around digital leadership and citizenship. This case study aims to highlight how universities can respond to technology-driven change by engaging students further and support their awareness of digital citizenship. The overall results showed that the informal learning that students have capitalised outside the classroom can be used to scaffold their development of digital citizenship through offline community engagement. It demonstrates the advantage of using such opportunities as a means to encourage citizenship practices among university student communities and the positive impact that such synergies can have on all the participants.

Today’s societies live in a world where the media construct reality, which also affects each individual media user. Children and their parents spend most of their time with digital media and contents. Therefore, researchers emphasize the importance of digital literacy of media users. They analyse new phenomena, challenges and risks associated with the anthropological, cognitive and social development of children and young people. An important role in media and digital education is played not only by teachers and schools, but also by parents and family. The aim of this paper is to present and analyse the theoretical approaches to digital media literacy, so-called digital parenting, and to interpret the results of the latest research in Croatia devoted to the digital habits of parents, their attitudes towards parental mediation strategies as well as to their satisfaction with the programmes of media literacy in the education system.

Internet advertising brought about many changes in communication production, distribution, and consumption. By using critical political economy of communication as the mainstay of our approach, we provide supporting evidence of the ambiguous influence of data-driven advertising dynamic on the news industry and audience habits. We look at what we define as the digital advertising gap, or the difference between the size of the internet advertising market and the total income of digital news’ firms. Digital intermediaries such as Google and Facebook are the final destinations for the majority of internet advertising investments in Europe and Croatia. A multi-sided, internet advertising market creates a fertile ground for the production of untrustworthy journalistic content. The digital advertising gap provides an example of a ‘market failure’ in which the market does not efficiently allocate public information goods. We argue that the confidence in the ability of the market to self-regulate the internet should be re-considered in European and national media policies.
