The review presents the monograph by Chief Assistant Professor Dr. Emelina Zaimova, “Psycho-Social Aspects of the Fear of Crime. Adaptation of a Questionnaire,” which stands out for its relevance in light of the dynamic and often extreme situations in the social environment. The topic highlights the multifaceted nature of the fear of crime through the following key aspects: how this phenomenon is defined and measured within the context of psychology and the social sciences; how certain individual and social factors influence the perception of crime; what the psychological and social consequences of fear are, including its impact on quality of life, mental health, and social cohesion; and what approaches exist for the prevention and management of fear. The author develops a reliable and valid methodology for studying the fear of crime, which can be applied both for scientific purposes and in practice, such as in forensic psychological assessments, the design of crime prevention strategies, and the improvement of societal well-being.

The article examines the formation of national and ethnic identity in the process of ontogenesis in children from 5 to 18 years of age from the three main ethnic communities in Bulgaria - Bulgarians, Turks and Roma. Models of national and ethnic identity formation specific to children from each of the three ethnic groups are derived based on tracing children's sequential formation of certain notions/indicators (cognitive and affective/еmotional) of national and ethnic identity. In the study of the successive changes in the formation of the notion of national and ethnic identity in the process of ontogenesis, as a theoretical basis was used the concept of the great Swiss psychologist Jean Piaget on the stages of intellectual development. The data in the article are based on two comprehensive case studies conducted in kindergarten and secondary school (with all children attending the kindergarten and the school aged 5 to 18) in a small town with an ethnically mixed population in Bulgaria, where for centuries representatives of the three ethnic communities studied - Bulgarians, Turks and Roma - have lived in close coexistence, which is why the patterns of ethnic and national identity formation derived can be seen as typical for the town.

This multiple case study explores the social-emotional challenges and differences experienced by children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), emphasizing the need for tailored interventions and support systems. The study draws on in-depth interviews with five parents of autistic children in Malaysia, all of whom are receiving equine therapy. Through thematic analysis, key differences were identified across four main areas: emotional regulation, social communication, self-regulation, and behavioral control. The findings highlight the critical need for early intervention programs that nurture social-emotional competence. By capturing the lived experiences of both children and their families, this study contributes to the growing body of literature on ASD and offers valuable insights to inform more empathetic and effective support strategies.

A book review is presented regarding the book by Nikolay Ivantchev, PhD, focused on athletes’ satisfaction of different aspects of life, as well as their general life-satisfaction. This monograph is in the area of Sport Psychology, but it would be interesting to a broad audience.

This study aims to analyze the relationship between work resources and the fulfilment of family demands and to test the mediation effect of work-family enrichment self-efficacy on this relationship. Previous studies focus more on the antecedents and outcomes of work-family enrichment, while the psychological mechanism of work-family enrichment stays under research. The Work-home resources model was used to looked deeper in the mechanism. A convenience sample of 233 Lithuanian employees participated in the study (85.4 per cent of women; average age 39.63 years). The scales of work resources and the scale of fulfilment of family needs have been developed on the basis of the Work-home resources model. In addition, a work-family enrichment self-efficacy scale and demographic questions were used. The results showed positive correlations between all variables tested. Work resources predict a higher level of work-family self-efficacy and the fulfilment of family demands. Meanwhile, the results showed a significant mediation effect. Study revealed that work-family enrichment self-efficacy is an important mediator that helps to better understand the mechanism of work-family enrichment.

The current study presents preliminary results from an extensive study called "Potential to be well", conducted with different quotas taking in account gender, people with or without psychiatric diagnosis and cohorts of different ages. The aim of the research is to test some scales for self-assessment developed by positive psychology, implementing the multi-method approach, but also to analyze the data for existing patterns’ differences in complex affective functions and dysfunctions. The “resilience”, “subjective life-satisfaction”, “emotional expressiveness”, “expressive ambivalence”, “suppression or reappraisal in emotion regulation” inventories are reliable and valid measures, which reflect complex subjective functions from the emotional sphere. It is noted that these indices follow a bi-directional logic – some patterns express negative trends in experiences, and others reflect a positive psychological transformation of primary functions helping to overcome emotional difficulties and turning adversity into advantage. It was also found that three scripts of complex mediatory sequential models are demonstrated, which combined, predict how two intuitive routes sustain and effect deterioration or improvement in the context of an individual case interpretation.

Previous studies on The Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) showed inconsistency, primarily related to the justice principle based on gender when using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the psychometric property of the Indonesian version of SWLS using the Rasch model. This model can be used as an evaluation technique for psychological instruments. The Rasch model showed a more detailed analysis than CFA, explaining person-item fit statistics, rating scale diagnosis, item calibration, and differential item functioning. The total participants after person fit checking were 1,154 university students who completed an online survey consisting of demographic data and a five-item Indonesian version of SWLS. The Rasch Rating Scale Analysis (RSM) showed that the Indonesian version of SWLS fulfilled unidimensional and local independence assumptions. The items delivered a good item fit index with a five-point rating scale, and there were no gender biases in moderate level and high differential item functioning (DIF). Therefore, the Indonesian version of SWLS is recommended for further research measuring life satisfaction. This research implies that using the Indonesian version of SWLS, especially in Indonesia, can use a five-point rating scale for future research.

Literature and personal experience identify a gap between researchers and practitioners in the field of psychology. At least two models are trying to explain how training programs for future psychologists should integrate science and practice. The scientist-practitioner model often emphasizes research and aims to develop scientific, critical thinking, with results being published in international journals. It is mainly criticized by practitioners for offering statistical solutions and neglecting particular cases or contexts. The scholar practitioner model provides opportunities for students whose career purposes are focused on professional practice and focuses on the development of skills that can be used in the relations with clients. It is mainly criticized for neglecting recent knowledge obtained through advanced research and favoring personal experience and insight instead. However, many aspects of practice are scientifically defensible, and many scientific results can improve practice in psychology. Good science and good practice should go hand to hand, but an exact evaluation of the percentage of science vs. practice in our daily activities would be forced and artificial.

This article is devoted to a little-studied topic in criminal psychology - women who commit serious crimes. This study analyzes the relationship between the complex of personality traits “The Dark Triad” and Aggression and in correlation with the aggression sub-types such as physical aggression, verbal aggression, anger, and hostility. The study was conducted on delinquent women that were sentenced to prison for violent crimes, including murder. The participants were 30 female prisoners from Bulgarian women's prison, aged between 22 and 69 years, (M = 47,36, SD = 11.71). The instruments that were used in the research are the Bulgarian adaptation of the Dark Triad Questionnaire and the Buss and Perry Aggression Questionnaire. Correlation analysis shows that there are significant relationships between scores on the scales of the Dark Triad questionnaire and general aggression. Dark Triad traits are significant predictors of all types of aggression, especially between psychopathic traits and physical aggression. Based on the findings of the study, it can be designed psycho-educational programs to prevent criminal behavior, and psycho-re-educational programs to improve the behavior of delinquent women.

The objectives of this study are to evaluate the measurement invariance of the University of California Los Angeles Loneliness Scale (UCLA-LS) three-item version (UCLA-LS-3) in older adults in Peru and Spain, to compare the latent means of loneliness, and to evaluate the psychometric properties of the scale with Item Response Theory (IRT) models, and evaluate the possible moderating effects of the country on loneliness-health relationships. Peruvian sample was composed of 235 old adults from the city of Lima. The Spanish sample was composed of 443 old adults. The three-factor structure of RUCLA-3 anchored to the health measure fitted the data reasonably well in Spain and Peru. The R-UCLA-3 may be considered invariant for these two samples. The latent means of loneliness are different, the Peruvian average of loneliness being greater than that of Spain. The R-UCLA-3 is an invariant measure in older adults in Peru and Spain, with adequate psychometric properties through IRT models.
