The purpose of the research: to examine the correlation between Modified 'Pathway' Test results and competitive speed metrics, and to evaluate the test's efficacy for assessing statodynamic balance in cross-country skiers during the skill-acquisition training phase. Research methods. 50 athletes (26 boys and 24 girls) aged 12-15 years took part in the study. Methods: pedagogical testing - 'Pathway' test for assessing the static-dynamic balance of athletes in our modification (taking into account the weight coefficients of errors of different types according to the magnitude of their significance); analysis of the final protocols of competitions to calculate the speed of movement in free and classic style races; video analysis (test and ski race); expert assessment (assessment of errors by complexity and significance); statistical processing of data was carried out using parametric statistical methods (Pearson correlation analysis). Research results and their discussion. Weighting coefficients of errors were developed taking into account the significance and possible distortions in the technique of movement and loss of speed on the distance. The correlation between the test results and the speed of movement in classic and skating style races was established. Conclusion. The weighting coefficients in the group of young men are more strict in the category of errors related to the loss of stability in a single-support position, and softer in the category of errors related to landing. In girls, it is the opposite: the coefficients are more strict in the category of landing errors. The cost of errors related to the loss of balance is more critical in classical skating than in skating, in both samples.
