Retraction of scholarly articles, often due to plagiarism, data fabrication, or ethical violations, is critical for maintaining academic integrity. The study explores the awareness and knowledge of Library and Information Science (LIS) researchers in Nigerian universities regarding the retraction of scholarly articles. This research aims to assess the awareness of Nigerian LIS researchers, understand their knowledge of retraction causes, and explore the perceived implications of retractions on LIS research. A cross-sectional survey design was employed, using a stratified random sampling technique to gather data from 185 respondents across Nigeria. Findings indicate that LIS researchers have moderate awareness of article retraction but limited direct experience or institutional support in dealing with retracted articles. The respondents demonstrated a strong understanding of retraction causes, particularly ethical violations such as plagiarism and peer-review fraud. Despite these challenges, retractions were viewed as essential for maintaining research integrity. The study concludes that LIS researchers require more comprehensive training and institutional frameworks to enhance engagement with retracted literature. Recommendations include the implementation of training programs and rigorous error-checking mechanisms to support ethical publishing practices.
