In the secularised literary treatment of short narrative texts, the biblical and hagiographical references that will be discussed in this paper appear, inter alia, in the form of allusive implicit references to persons or events from the biblical and hagiographical traditions, due to the educational-didactic concept of the 19th century, when the Besednik newspaper began to appear as a supplement to the publications issued by the Mohorjeva družba publishing company. An examination and analysis of the short narrative texts of the Besednik newspaper, subtitled as “a short and informative newspaper for the Slovene people” published in Klagenfurt between 1869 and 1878 revealed that allusions to biblical and hagiographical contexts appear as quotation figures in the form of intertextual references.

The article deals with the issue of multiculturalism and interculturality in selected works by contemporary Slovenian female writers. It takes into account a tendency that has been very prominent in literary historical research in recent years, namely the need to take into account the aspect of crossing and transgressing borders and the hibridity of writers’ identities when analysing literary works. Various researchers believe that it is necessary to foster an open research attitude towards everything that has been materially and thematically, as well as linguistically different, but at the same time cohesive in Slovenian literary history. The article is based on the conviction that Slovenian literary texts are understood differently in an intercultural context and establish an interesting intertextual dialogue with many other languages and cultures.

This paper presents the findings of an analysis of English and Macedonian causal conjunctions based on samples of literary texts in both languages and their published translations. In both languages there are conjunctions used exclusively to indicate causality between two clauses (such as because and бидејќи ‘because’), but there are also conjunctions typically used to indicate other relations (such as temporality in the case of since and штом ‘as soon as’, ‘once’) which have developed a causal interpretation over time. The coordinating conjunctions and in English and и ‘and’ in Macedonian can also have a causal interpretation developed by means of implicature (Lyons 1995: 162–163, 286–287) or inferential enrichment (Mauri & Auwera 2012: 383–384).

V razpravi1 se tematizirajo dekadentne tendence v poeziji in življenju prve slovenske
\npesnice intime Vide Jeraj (Franice Vovk, 1875–1932). Lirična pesnica je bila
\nvitalni element slovenske moderne tako na Bledu (Zasipu) kot na Dunaju. Začela
\nje pisati v kontekstu sprememb v srednjeevropskih kulturah, ki so se zaključile
\nna koncu prve svetovne vojne z razpadom skupne države. Pripadala je generaciji
\nkozmopolitskih avtoric, ki se je uveljavila v obdobju fin-de-siècla v slovenski
\nkulturi, v tem času na periferiji avstro-ogrskega imperija. V njenem literarnem
\nopusu nas zanimajo pesmi o smrti.
\nThe topics of the article are the decadent tendencies in the poetry and life of the
\nfirst Slovenian female lyricist Vida Jeraj (Franica Vovk, 1875–1932) who was a
\nvital part of the Slovenian modernist network (“Slovenian moderna”) in Bled
\n(Zasip) and Vienna. She began to write in the context of transformation in Central
\nEuropean cultures which ended with the collapse of the former joint State. Jeraj
\nbelonged to the generation of young cosmopolitan women writers who broke
\nthrough in in the Fin-de-Siècle period in Slovene society, at that time the periphery
\nof the Austro-Hungarian Empire. In her literary work we analyse poems expressing
\nmotives of death.
