Abstract With the global energy transition and carbon neutrality goals, wind power has become a crucial source of green energy, making the condition monitoring of wind turbines increasingly essential. To ensure stable and reliable operation, deploying self-powered sensors in the transmission system provides an effective approach for real-time monitoring of critical components. Therefore, this paper proposes a novel speed increasing electromagnetic rotational energy harvester (SIEREH) for the transmission system of wind turbines, which achieves efficient energy conversion by integrating a planetary gear speed-increasing mechanism with the principle of electromagnetic induction. The speed-increasing section component employs a planetary gear system to achieve counter-rotation between the inner and outer cylinders, thereby increasing the output performance. The results demonstrate that as the rotational speed rises from 60 to 480 rpm, the open-circuit AC voltage generated by a single coil in the SIEREH increases from 0.88V to 6 V. Under the optimal load resistance of 9 Ω, the maximum root-mean-square (RMS) power output shows a significant enhancement, rising from 3.7 mW to 527.6 mW, with a corresponding maximum volume power density of 0.6138 mW/cm³. This research provides a novel approach to efficient energy harvesting, effectively addressing issues such as low efficiency and poor output stability in traditional rotational energy harvesters, and holds significant potential for practical engineering applications.
