When dealing with routes in maps, the shortest path is the commonest addressed problem, but the topology of the map affects the paths’ behavior in many ways. A study was conducted on random maps, by Monte Carlo simulation, in which the weights are uniformly distributed, in order to assess the impact of these conditions on the shortest paths. We provide a freely accessible webpage, where the user can insert the number of nodes, specify whether it is a directed or undirected graph, and the range of the distribution, to observe the influence of each parameter. We consider several goals: we offer the procedure computation, based on the well-known Dijkstra’s algorithm; we combine the PHP language with a numerical language (Fortran), with the gnuplot graphing utility; and we stress the suggestion of the Internet as a computing medium. The simulation runs on the webpage, thus needing no software installation or special power or matching operating system. This Web application is an example for many other problems, and is implemented on a Linux platform. The study draws attention both to the use of the Web for scientific computing, and to the convenience of this use in scientific publications. We advocate web-based computing in general, as it can use the same programs as classical computing, the programs being always the technical difficulty. In our technological era, this still scarcely explored approach also promotes the transfer of knowledge from academia to industry.

Currently, for obtaining thermographic images there is a wide variety of portable thermographic cameras for mobile phones. Thus, by connecting a thermographic camera of this type to a smartphone, it is possible to obtain thermographic images of reasonable quality in a simple, quick, and painless way. Its transport and handling are quite easy, which allows its use by anyone and anywhere. Furthermore, the cost of these cameras is reduced, thus making their use even more accessible. In the present work, it was intended to develop an application to automatically segment and evaluate the skin lesions from thermographic images obtained through the smartphone. The detection of the injured region (by the percentage of area) and obtaining its characteristics, such as minimum, average, and maximum temperature were implemented to monitor the lesion. The results obtained are promising and reinforce the interest in using this application in health centers or by medical and nursing teams, for the care, prevention, and monitoring of skin lesions in conjunction with other diagnostic methods.

Digital technologies have generated several positive effects at the individual and social levels. However, more recently, the negative side of technologies has been studied. Among these negative consequences is the excessive accumulation of digital content, also known as “digital hoarding”. This is a relatively recent behavior, so research is still in development and only a few studies have been published about its effects. To contribute to closing this gap, a study was conducted on 344 higher education workers (administrative and academic staff). We analyzed digital hoarding and its effect on loss of control and negative consequences using structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). Our results show that digital hoarding influences individuals’ perception of loss of control and that both significantly influence negative consequences. Additionally, we found that there is no significant moderating effect of age or number of devices on the relationship between the constructs. Organizations should be concerned about this behavior and its effects to generate measures to mitigate its impact, especially considering that 83% of decision-makers believe that their companies are digital data hoarders.

The use of new methodologies in teaching and learning mathematics is very important, as it allows the creation of new possibilities for learning mathematical objects, favoring a more active student's interaction with knowledge. Web resources can be used as a teaching methodology to support mathematics learning for engineering students. With the main objective of evaluating the contribution of using a Web resource in approaching the thematic domain of Mathematical Analysis, more specifically, in calculating areas through the definite integral, a case study was implemented. In this study, through a web page, the aim was to assess the level of development of technological competencies, specific and transversal mathematical competencies, knowledge, and skills. It took place in a normal academic environment, with students from the 1.st year of the Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Institute of Engineering of Coimbra. The analysis to which the data was subjected, collected through various information collection techniques and instruments, allowed us to conclude that the resources used to support the implemented didactic approach had positive repercussions in terms of technological and mathematical development related to the topics mentioned.

This research provides an analytical exploration into digital transformation in public services, with a focus on Brazil's GOV.BR platform. It critically examines how citizens' trust and satisfaction influence their loyalty to e-government services. Supported by structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM), the study is based on established frameworks in e-government literature. Our analysis reveals that service quality significantly influences citizen loyalty, with an adjusted R2 value of 71.2%, highlighting its importance in the e-government domain. Contrary to expectations, trust in the government showed a non-significant direct impact on citizen satisfaction and loyalty. These findings provide critical insights for policymakers and practitioners in improving the efficacy and adoption of e-government services.

With the advent of Information and Communication Technologies in recent decades, organizations face several challenges today. Adopting Digital Transformation (DT) offers numerous opportunities for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to improve their efficiency and operations, reaching new markets, shareholders, and customers. However, there are potential risks associated with this process. With Digital Transformation, the radius of connectivity and interconnection between devices and systems increases in Mozambique and worldwide, creating more significant space cyberattacks. As Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) connect to the digital world and move forward with adopting innovative digital technologies, they become more vulnerable to digital security risks. Hence, managing digital security risks effectively is crucial to realising the benefits of Digital Transformation. This position paper proposes to present the research work that will culminate in the proposal to develop a framework that fits Mozambican Small and Medium Enterprises through a Design Science Research (DSR) methodology, which can help to assist Mozambican Small and Medium Enterprises in the Digital Transformation (DT) process.
