Capitalising on research into self-regulated learning strategies (SRLS), the study reported in the present paper explored the use of SRLS by multilingual learners in the context of the linguistic landscape. We designed the Linguistic Landscape (LL) SRLS Inventory, used it for data collection and validated it. Insights were provided by 100 undergraduate students of English and German and concerned searching for opportunities to learn from LL, paying attention to LL, creating mental linkages with LL, and organising LL-based learning. Statistical analyses revealed that the use of LL SRLS was affected by reading comprehension skills and varied substantially across SR stages.

This paper explores the integration of ChatGPT, an advanced AI language model, into creative writing. The paper investigates the capabilities of ChatGPT in generating novel story ideas, characters, plots, and stylistic elements such as metaphors and dialogue within various genres, including narrative, poetry, and drama. With its generative potential, ChatGPT is a valuable tool to simplify the creative writing process, providing authors with innovative concepts and supporting material that can be further developed and refined. Key findings of the study include ChatGPT's ability to craft detailed character portraits, engage in realistic dialogue, and produce atmospheric descriptions. While the chatbot can occasionally produce repetitive or biased results, careful human curation and interaction with the model can mitigate these issues and improve the writing process. The paper concludes that, despite limitations, AI agents like ChatGPT can significantly reinforce human creativity in writing, provided they are used as inspiration rather than a replacement for human ingenuity. The research underlines the importance of research on AI and creativity, especially regarding the ethical implications and the balance between human and machine contributions to art.

The study aims to develop reliable data concerning open interrogative clauses in English and Albanian. To analyze and draw a conclusion corresponding to the conducted research, three hundred and fifty clauses are extracted from Richard Dawkins’s “The God Delusion” which is translated into Albanian by Bardh Rugova, and these clauses are analyzed taking into consideration differences and similarities between these languages in clause level. As far as research findings are concerned, the vast majority of main open interrogative clauses in English start with a question word which is followed by a verb. In contrast, main Albanian open interrogative clauses start with a wh-word and the subject comes after the predicator. The interrogative word that prevails in English clauses is what, on the other hand, the one that prevails in Albanian clauses is the interrogative word përse (why).

The paper explores the possibilities of restructuring university language programs to integrate digital literacy skills in the context of rapid digital transformation. The proposed perspectives emphasize a synergy between traditional language program competencies and digital literacy skills, achievable only through the adoption of competency-based approaches, professionalization, needs analysis within the framework of instructional design, and a curriculum guided by digital analysis levels.

The dynamics of sociocultural transformations in modern society has significantly affected the spiritual life of society and caused changes in the value orientations of a person and his spiritual being, which led to increased interest in studying the phenomenon of the spiritual culture of modernity. The problem of the spiritual culture of society is of particular importance in the context of understanding the problems of globalization of the modern world and their impact on traditional values. Information technologies, and mass communication, have changed the spiritual basis of the life of a modern person, his spiritual culture, leading to negative processes in the spiritual sphere. The end of the XX - beginning of the XXI centuries were marked by systemic transformations in Kazakh society, which inevitably led to a change of value priorities in the spiritual culture of Russians, changed the ideas of morality, decency or dishonesty of a person, modified the starting point in the assessment of morality. In this regard, it is important to understand what modifications are characteristic of the spiritual culture of Kazakh society. The most important subject of reproduction of spiritual life is youth, whose essential sociocultural characteristic is the ability to inherit and reproduce cultural patterns, transform them taking into account the changed social experience on the basis of their own innovative creativity and broadcast to future generations, thereby contributing to the development of society. Transformational processes in Kazakhstan's society and the globalization of the modern world have complicated the processes of perception, formation and consolidation of the values of the spiritual culture of young Kazakhstanis. Young people found themselves at the forefront of modern contradictions. Socializing in the conditions of an intercultural clash and the resulting uncertainty, she simultaneously internalizes various patterns intertwined in her consciousness. At the same time, as a result of an active reaction to cultural challenges, she expands her spiritual needs and interests. Under the current conditions, a young person increasingly functions as an autonomous subject, choosing among the many values and styles of spiritual life offered, which actualizes the need to study the features of the content of this culture. The study of the problems of the spiritual culture of Kazakh youth has heuristic significance due to the theoretical and methodological lack of elaboration on this problem (Chen-Bouck, Patterson, Chen, 2019).

The article is dedicated to the problem of teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL) in higher education during the crisis period by an example of a Ukrainian experience of teaching during the pandemic and the war. In the beginning, the research focused only on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the TEFL at tertiary schools in Ukraine. However, after the outbreak of the war on the territory of Ukraine on 24th February 2022, it became clear that the experience could be extrapolated to the conditions of other crises, in particular, to the conditions of armed aggression. This article uses mixed quantitative and qualitative comparative methods to analyze the survey results of educators' attitudes toward online and blended learning. The blind questionnaire was held in May 2021 and then repeated in February 2023. The participants (n=70, n = 69) were representatives of about 50 higher education institutions (HEI) from all over Ukraine. The research is a case study with context-dependent knowledge; however, it may be with some reservations relevant to other countries under similar conditions. The instrument included 10 questions related to the participant's previous experience of online teaching, reflections on the most difficult elements of online teaching, advantages and disadvantages of online teaching, and types of learning activities that can easily be adapted and transferred into online mode of learning. The questionnaire also covers the role of a teacher in online learning, the overall assessment of the experience of online learning and preferences of the mode of teaching which the teachers would like to preserve. The structure of the questionnaire included 4 multiple-choice single-answer questions and 6 multiple-choice multiple-answer questions. Answers from the two polls of respondents were then compared using Fisher's correlation coefficient to prove the statistical significance of the received data. The results of the questionnaire have shown that the majority of participants (61 %; 42%) think that implementation of blended learning is the best option to use in the universities, thus presenting a need to the higher education system of Ukraine to develop and introduce blended learning curricula.

Drama may be a useful technique for improving pupils' language acquisition in any subject. Implementing such a strategy in an actual classroom setting could be a problem for any instructor or person. The idea behind this study was to establish whether using drama-based activities in pedagogy has any positive educational outcomes. The study used a quantitative technique, and included a specific section about students’ perspective on data collection from over a thousand students. They are studying in different faculties in undergraduate courses where English is a compulsory subject. The researcher independently designed the research instrument which was used to elicit responses from learners. The data collection method uses purposive sampling in the present study. Activities that encourage language-learning skills include role-plays and extended role-plays, which are described in the research as drama elements that can be useful in teaching languages. The study's findings support the use of drama as a strategic approach and have a bigger influence on student learning results.

The purpose of this study was threefold: (a) to create an original student corpus of the argumentative writings of first-year undergraduate students; (b) to describe the differences among student writing (with a focus on thesis statements) at two stages of the first semester, based on essays obtained at two different times; (c) to investigate the effectiveness of indirect instruction of argumentative writing during the first semester. The results of the study indicate that there were slight differences in the effectiveness of the indirect instruction, which included introducing argumentative essay samples, free-writing activities and discussions. The results further indicate that the writings of stage one and stage two, respectively, were not notably different when it came to composing a thesis statement. Relatively few students included a sentence to resemble the structure and function of a thesis statement. The findings of this study reveal that students are not aware of certain linguistic patterns present in written argumentation. It is obvious from the study that in order for students to create thesis statements, which is an inevitable argumentative writing skill in academia, Needs-based Learning should be integrated across the implemented methods of teaching. The results have implications for the syllabus and course materials.

The article examines the functional and stylistic features of French advertising discourse in modern economic and political media. The relevance of this issue stems from the fact that advertising texts are closest to the impact pole on the conditional message-impact scale. The advertising discourse is analyzed using the material of advertisements, articles, notes, interviews, and extended announcements in the French media of economic and political focus, and drawing on the example of contextual and media advertising retrieved from French economic and political websites. The paper attempts to comprehensively study advertising discourse with due consideration of the determining role of the functional and stylistic factors, analyze the main functions of advertising discourse, and highlight the main directions of research on advertising. Special attention is paid to the pragmatic orientation of advertising, which manifests itself in specific linguistic categories. The analysis of the linguistic material shows that modern advertising discourse in the French media of economic and political focus makes ample use of expressive means designed to exert an efficient impact on the recipient. Among the most commonly used means, metaphor, metonymy, anaphora, hyperbole and antithesis are at the top of the list. Figures of higher expressiveness and emotional coloring are shown to demonstrate a high frequency of use in advertising. These include rhetorical questions, rhetorical addresses and rhetorical exclamations. Figures of double meaning, such as language games based on linguistic ambiguity, are also successfully used in French advertising discourse.
