I a. C. y mediados del I d.

This work presents a review of the rock art conserved at a site located in the autonomous community of Andalusia, known in the preceding literature as the Las Estrellas cave (Castellar de la Frontera, Cadiz). This is a large open-air rocky shelter, in which various schematic style pictographs were found, in the early years of this century. During a recent visit to the site, the existence of an important Palaeolithic figurative set was also noted, which includes representations of fauna and a small series of outlines of hands. This article deals with the generic analysis of the art catalogued in the cave up to the present moment, paying special attention to the set of the aforementioned Palaeolithic handprints, which have been documented using digital 3d technology. Similarly, its contextualization in Andalusian Palaeolithic art will be taken into account and a first chronological approximation of this interesting and varied figurative system will be made.

In the present work, we examine the personal adornment in proboscidean ivory from the Bell Beaker period at the hypogeum of Padru Jossu, Sanluri (Sardinia, Italy) currently preserved in the Museo Civico Archeologico Villa Abbas of Sardara. For the first time, a complete study –morphological, use wear and archaeometric– of this material has been conducted. The typological study established two categories: buttons and pins. Those categories were also subdivided into three groups respectively. Technological and functional analyses were made difficult by the strong degradation of the items and the presence of glue and varnish. The archaeometric study highlighted the diverse provenances of the proboscidean ivories, suggesting a chronological difference in the geographical sources, as well as in the mobility patterns implicit in the movements of the raw material. The ivory from the older Stratum iii is predominantly from the Asian elephant, and in the later Stratum ii the exclusive supplier species is the African Savannah elephant. It is also important to mention that in the ensemble from Stratum iii, one of the items seems related to the Eastern types of ossi a globuli, linking this Asian ivory with an Aegean and Oriental axis of mobility.

The numerous monetary finds during the archaeological excavations carried out since 2014 on the site of Dessobriga, and the presentation of several coins from five new private collections, make it necessary to update the monetary corpus of this antique mansio. The study of the chrono-stratigraphic horizons of circulation of coins discovered in archeological context, as well as the evaluation of the whole corpus, according to the more traditional approach of a statistical study of the productive horizons based on the mints and the chronology of the emissions, allow us to formulate new hypotheses regarding the identity of Dessobriga, its regional context and the chronology of its occupation. It is thus possible to fix the Roman foundation of this urban agglomeration during the first half of the Principate of Augustus, and the frequency of certain phenomena –countermarks and partitions– underlines the close relations that it maintained, at least originally, with the military camps of the North-West of the Peninsula to which it is connected by a road of first importance. The final abandonment of the site, which seems to occur during the second century, could finally be linked to a mutation of the road network.

Cortijo Riquelme is a Late Bronze and Early Iron Age’s archaeological dump in the South East of the Iberian Peninsula which belongs to the so called pithouses. This traditional interpretation has been rejected by recent critical studies. Following this positions, the paper analyzes the mentioned dump, which mainly contained Late Bronze and very ancient Phoenician imported pottery, showing the introduction of Phoenician wine and the service for its consumption. A comparison is done with other similar dumps distributed in the South of the Iberian peninsula from Late Bronze Age, though the majority are dated during the early centuries if the 1st millennium bc, coinciding with the Phoenician colonization. Another Mediterranean dumps from Crete, Cyprus, Sicily and North Africa related with feasts help to propose an interpretation for the dump of Cortijo Riquelme and others of the same type, in which the ritual deposit of the containers used in feasts should contribute to the formation of dumps, in a context of increasing competition of local elites in processes of social differentiation.

In this paper we present a new tessera lusoria found in the Iberian site of Puig del Castell de Samalús (Cànoves i Samalús, Barcelona). The piece, made of bone, has a latin inscription on both sides, in wich we can read the vocative gvlo and numeral IIII. Beyond making a typological approach of the piece, we try to develop the meaning of their presence in an indigenous context and frame their presence within the rest of these gaming tokens located in the Citerior. We are incorporing new data, only through the collection of all tesserae lusoriae that we know its precise place of discovery. We will define its origin and try to approach to a better understanding of the phenomenon. We try to address the issue focusing on the context in which they were used, indicating the group these gaming tokens belonged.
