The East Asian species of Acicnemis Fairmaire, 1849 (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Molytinae) are reviewed using a combination of traditional morphological approaches (microscopy, dissections) and DNA barcoding. Three new species, A. cryptica Lewis & Kojima, sp. nov., A. koguma Lewis & Kojima, sp. nov. and A. squamata Lewis & Kojima, sp. nov. are described from mainland Japan. The former two species are cryptic and sister to more widespread, previously described taxa. Based on examination of name-bearing type material and morphological considerations Acicnemis cruciata Kleine, 1924 syn. nov. is a junior subjective synonym of Acicnemis postica Hubenthal, 1919, Acicnemis yakushimana Morimoto & Miyakawa, 1995 syn. nov. is a junior subjective synonym of A. dividicincta Morimoto & Miyakawa, 1995, and Acicnemis dorsonigrita Voss, 1941 syn. nov. is a junior subjective synonym of Acicnemis palliata Pascoe, 1872. Lectotypes are designated for Acicnemis albofasciata (Ter-Minasian, 1953), A. laeta Hubenthal, 1919, A. postica Hubenthal, 1919 and A. sauteri Hubenthal, 1919. Important morphological characters used in Acicnemis species identification are reviewed and a key to the East Asian species is provided. DNA (CO1) barcoding is used to supplement our morphology-based species hypothesis, and the first published barcodes for most species covered here are presented.

Investigations of material collected by one of us (CS) between May 2017 and November 2023 from 70 localities in Thailand further increases our knowledge of the diversity of the genus Labiobaetis Novikova & Kluge, 1987 in Thailand and Southeast Asia in general. Eleven species have been identified using a combination of morphological and molecular analysis (COI). Nine are new to science, they are described and illustrated based on their larvae, and in one case, complemented by the male imago. Two of the new species belong to the L. batakorum species group, L. mon sp. nov., L. lahu sp. nov.; three to the L. numeratus species group, L. tenasserimensis sp. nov., L. angularis sp. nov., L. tonsator sp. nov.; one to the L. operosus species group, L. nisaratae sp. nov., and three to the L. sumigarensis species group, L. karen sp. nov., L. septem sp. nov., L. ranongensis sp. nov. A key to all species of Labiobaetis from continental Southeast Asia is provided. Additionally, the genetic distances (COI; Kimura-2 parameter) including all species treated in this study are discussed. The total number of Labiobaetis species worldwide is augmented to approximately 170.

Metahelotella alatonotata sp. nov. is described from Yunnan, China. Habitus and diagnostic characters of the new species are illustrated. Metahelotella semifulva (Ritsema, 1881) and Metahelotella immaculata (Ritsema, 1891) are newly recorded from China. A distribution map of the genus Metahelotella in Indochina and southwestern China and a taxonomic key to all species are provided.

A new species of the genus Scincella Mittleman is described from Qixingguan District, Bijie City, Guizhou Province, China, based on morphological and molecular evidence. The new species, Scincella tenuistriata sp. nov., is diagnosed by the medium body size; tympanum diameter significantly larger than the palpebral disc; midbody scale rows 24; total ventral + gular scale rows numbering 61-66; toes nearly or just touching fingers when limbs are adpressed; 9 or 10 enlarged lamellae beneath finger IV, and 11 or 12 beneath toe IV; and the dark dorsolateral stripes narrow and wavy, covering 0.5-1 scale rows on the trunk, with four scale rows in between on the dorsum. Phylogenetic analyses based on the mitochondrial 12S, 16S, and CO1 gene fragments indicate that the new species is most closely related to S. alia Bragin, Zenin, Nguyen & Poyarkov, but differs by an uncorrected p-distance of 8.6-8.8% in the CO1 gene. The discovery of the new species raises the number of currently recognized Scincella species to 51, underscoring the underestimated diversity of the genus.

Ciriacremum is a genus of Ciriacreminae (Hemiptera, Sternorrhyncha, Psylloidea, Psyllidae) comprising 26 validly described species in the Afrotropical realm and only one in the Neotropics. Here we add four new species from Brazil, which are named and diagnosed, including illustrations and an identification key for adults: Ciriacremum lanceolatum sp. nov. (from Mato Grosso), C. maederae sp. nov. (from Amazonas), C. pollicigerum sp. nov. (from Amazonas) and C. roraima sp. nov. (from Roraima). Two other species are reported from Brazil (Amazonas and Pará) but not formally named due to insufficient material. Apart from C. setosum (from Nicaragua) and the Brazilian species treated in this paper, there are at least four additional undescribed species from the Neotropics (Colombia, Guyana, Panama, Suriname, and Venezuela), which are briefly discussed. Little is known about the immatures and host plants of the Neotropical species. The only confirmed host is Hymenaea sp. (Fabaceae) of C. maederae sp. nov. Adults were collected also on other fabaceous genera that are possible hosts. In the Neotropics, Ciriacremum is restricted to the tropics between Nicaragua in the north and Brazil (Mato Grosso) in the south.

The arachnological collection at the Natural History Museum Bern (NMBE) comprises approximately 120,000 vials containing around 500,000 specimens of spiders (Araneae), harvestmen (Opiliones), and scorpions (Scorpiones). While the material originated from around the globe, most of the specimens were collected in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland. The collection is organized into five main sections. It encompasses the collections of Konrad Thaler, Peter “Otto” Horak, Peter Sacher, and Ambros Hänggi, along with a general collection that features rare specimens, including material collected from caves. The material is stored in 80% pure ethanol. Since 1996, a total of 60,000 vials with 235,000 specimens of Araneae, representing 2080 different species, have been digitized and electronically catalogued. The collection also holds type material, including 25 holotypes and 453 paratypes of Araneae, three holotypes and paratypes of Opiliones, and one holotype and two paratypes of Scorpiones. A detailed list of the type material is provided in Suppl. material 1.

Africa is recognized for its high levels of endemism across many groups of organisms, including Cladocera. Several studies contributed to our understanding of the diversity and geographic distribution of some groups of Chydoridae on this continent. The literature, however, points to species presumed to occur naturally on other continents, suggesting that both diversity and endemism in Africa continue to be underestimated. Despite the absence of more comprehensive knowledge about the morphology of Kurzialongirostris (Daday, 1898) from the terra typica (Oriental region), our findings revealed small morphological differences between populations of the Congo River when compared with literature reports. Looking at the high morphological variability along the range of its geographic distribution, it becomes clear that K.longirostris might be indicated as a species complex. Thus, the idea of continental endemism should be tested in a future revision of the group.

A new species of Diglyphus Walker, D. albifemur Liu, Hansson & Guo, sp. nov., is described based on extensive material from China collected from 2016 to 2024. The entire material included here has been reared from agromyzid leafminers (Diptera, Agromyzidae), mainly from Phytomyza vitalbae Kaltenbach, mining leaves of Clematis orientalis L. The new species is morphologically similar to the European species D. clematidis Navone & Hansson and shares the same host plant genus (Clematis) but can be distinguished by several diagnostic features detailed herein. Mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) sequences of the new species are provided. The identification key to Chinese Diglyphus species by Zhu et al. (2000) was extended to incorporate the new species and all other Chinese species described since that publication.

A new subspecies of Amolopsdafangensis Li, Liu, Ke, Cheng, & Wang, 2024, designated as Amolopsdafangensiswumengmontisssp. nov., is described from Mt. Wumeng, Zhaotong City, northeastern Yunnan, China, based on phylogenetic analysis of the 16S rRNA and CO1 genes, as well as morphological examinations. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that specimens from the Wumeng Mountains clustered within Amolopsdafangensis, forming two main clades within this species. Amolopsdafangensiswumengmontisssp. nov. demonstrates a close phylogenetic relationship with A.d.dafangensis and is differentiated from the nominal subspecies by specific characteristics: 1) tympanum indistinct; 2) tibiotarsal articulation just reaching anterior corner of the eye; 3) flat and indistinct inner and outer metacarpal tubercles; and 4) webbing formula: I1–1II1–1½III1–2IV2–1V.

Only a single species of the subgenus Antocha (Antocha)Osten Sacken (1860) was previously known to occur in Northwest China. In this study, four additional species are added to the regional fauna: A. (A.) bimaculatasp. nov. is described and illustrated as new species, while A. (A.) chonsaniana Podenas, 2015, and A. (A.) turkestanica de Meijere, 1921, which are reported from China for the first time, are illustrated in detail. Additionally, A. (A.) bifida Alexander, 1924, is recorded for the first time recorded in Northwest China. Furthermore, a key to the species of the subgenus Antocha (Antocha) in Northwest China is presented.
