Through his philosophical and logical analysis in Time and Modality in 1957, Arthur Norman Prior proposed the logical system Q. In this paper, I logically characterise Q and, subsequently, study Q’s deficiencies. I also review other works which have been carried out based on Q in recent decades.


 
 
 Description Logics (DLs) are a family of well-known terminological knowledge representation formalisms in modern semantics-based systems. This research focuses on analysing how our developed Occurrence Logic (OccL) can conceptually and logically support the development of a description logic. OccL is integrated into the alternative theory of natural language syntax in Deviational Syntactic Structures under the label ‘EFA(X)3’ (or the third version of Epi-Formal Analysis in Syntax, EFA(X), which is a radical linguistic theory). From the logical point of view, OccL is a formal logic that mainly deals with the occurrences of symbols as well as with their priorities within linguistic descriptions, i.e. natural language syntax, semantics and phonology. In this article—based on our OccL-based definitions of the concepts of strong implication and occurrence value as well as of the logical concept Identical Occurrence Constructor (IDOC) that is the most fundamental logical concept in our formalism—we will model Occurrence Description Logic (ODL). Accordingly, we will formally-logically analyse ‘occurrence(s) of symbol(s)’ within descriptions of the world in ODL. In addition, we will analyse and assess the logical concepts of occurrence and occurrence priority in ODL. This research can make a strong logical background for our future research in the development of a Modal Occurrence Description Logic.
 
 

Sensorimotor adaptation is an important part of our ability to perform novel motor tasks (i.e., learning of motor skills). Efforts to improve adaptation in healthy and clinical patients using non-invasive brain stimulation methods have been hindered by inter-individual and intra-individual variability in brain susceptibility to stimulation. Here, we explore unpredictable loud acoustic stimulation as an alternative method of modulating brain excitability to improve sensorimotor adaptation. In two experiments, participants moved a cursor towards targets, and adapted to a 30º rotation of cursor feedback, either with or without unpredictable acoustic stimulation. Acoustic stimulation improved initial adaptation to sensory prediction errors in Study 1, and improved overnight retention of adaptation in Study 2. Unpredictable loud acoustic stimulation might thus be a potent method of modulating sensorimotor adaptation in healthy adults.

Ein zentraler Grund fur den Erfolg von Unternehmen ist ihre Fahigkeit, neue, innovative Produkte auf den Markt zu bringen (Schumpeter 1997, S. 27). Diese vergleichsweise alte Maxime der Betriebswirtschaftslehre ist fur Dienstleistungsunternehmen gultiger denn je.

Zusammenfassung Der technische Fortschritt und die Digitalisierung in der Finanzindustrie (u. a. durch FinTechs) haben angefangen den weltweiten Banken- und Kreditmarkt stark zu verändern. In einer empirischen Analyse über die Akzeptanz von kleinen und mittleren Unternehmen (KMU) in Deutschland untersucht der Artikel die Möglichkeiten und Chancen von FinTechs im Bereich von innovativen Peer-to-Business-(P2B)-Lending-Plattformen als Finanzierungsalternative zu Bankkrediten. In der Arbeit werden die in der Theorie vorhandenen Akzeptanzkriterien identifiziert, empirisch mit Experten validiert und gewichtet sowie in einer empirischen Umfrage bei 53 mittelständischen Unternehmen getestet. Die Studie zeigt, dass ein transparenter Antragsprozess, ein persönlicher and qualifizierter Ansprechpartner, eine positive Reputation des Anbieters und die Transparenz der Gebühren maßgeblich für eine erfolgreiche Geschäftsmodellentwicklung von Peer-to-Business-Lending-Möglichkeiten bei deutschen KMU sind. Die Arbeit leistet sowohl einen wissenschaftlichen Verständnisbeitrag über die aktuelle Wahrnehmung und Akzeptanz von FinTech-Angeboten in Deutschland als auch einen praxisorientierten Bezugsrahmen, um kundenorientierte Geschäftsmodelle im P2B-Lending-Segment zu entwickeln und zu optimieren.
