Strategic Evolution of Ancillary Revenue Streams in Commercial Aviation: A Systematic Perspective on Business Models and Consumer Dynamics
In today’s competitive aviation landscape, marked by evolving consumer expectations and economic volatility, airlines increasingly rely on ancillary revenues to sustain profitability beyond traditional fares. This study presents a systematic literature review of peer-reviewed academic sources to examine the strategic evolution and implementation of ancillary revenue mechanisms across various airline business models. It contrasts how full-service, low-cost, and ultra-low-cost carriers adopt these strategies, focusing on consumer behavior, willingness-to-pay, and regional differences in response to unbundled services. Findings highlight that successful ancillary revenue generation depends not only on cost-efficient distribution but also on dynamic pricing, service personalization, and digital integration. Airlines that embrace technological innovation—especially in pricing algorithms and tailored service offerings—consistently outperform competitors in per-passenger revenue. Moreover, the study underscores the importance of aligning revenue strategies with customer expectations to avoid eroding brand trust. By synthesizing insights across global markets, the article provides a comprehensive framework for understanding how ancillary revenues function as levers for competitive advantage, financial resilience, and strategic differentiation in modern commercial aviation.

Inflation, Fiscal Policy, and Inequality: The Impact of the Post‐Pandemic Price Surge and Fiscal Measures on European Households
Abstract Following the inflation surge in the aftermath of the pandemic crisis, Euro Area governments adopted a large array of fiscal measures to cushion its impact on households. The inflationary shock and related fiscal measures affected households differently depending on their country, their consumption patterns, and their position in the income distribution. This paper uncovers the aggregate and distributional impact of this inflationary shock, as well as the impact of the government measures aimed at supporting households and containing prices. The analysis is carried out for 2022 and includes Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Greece. Our work confirms that the purchasing power and welfare of low‐income households was more severely affected than that of high‐income households. Fiscal measures contributed significantly to closing this gap, though with country differences. However, most fiscal measures were not particularly targeted at low‐income households, implying a low cost‐effectiveness in protecting the poorest in some countries.

Hemotropic mycoplasmas, hemoplasmas, are epi-erythrocytic parasitic bacteria that can be transmitted through blood transfusion. To study the prevalence of hemoplasma infection of potential feline blood donors and investigate the association between Hemoplasma spp. quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) positivity in blood units and selected variables. Seven thousand five hundred seventy-three blood units from 4121 privately-owned potential donor cats. Retrospective observational cross-sectional study. The Banco Sangue Animal (BSA)-Animal Blood Bank medical database was reviewed for all feline donations performed in 2022 in Portugal, Spain, and Belgium. Baseline characteristics and results of blood-borne pathogens screening tests were extracted from the medical records. Two hundred twelve of 4034 Portuguese donor cats and 2 of 70 Spanish donor cats tested positive for Hemoplasma spp. qPCR in 2022 leading to an overall estimated prevalence of 5.2% (95% CI: 4.5%-5.9%) in potential blood donors. Using multivariable generalized estimation equation models, Hemoplasma spp. qPCR was more often positive among blood units issued from male cats (OR = 1.9, 95% CI: 1.4-2.6, P < .0001), units positive for FeLV (OR = 2.8, 95% CI: 1.4-5.6, P = .0023), and units collected in winter months (OR = 2.5, 95% CI: 1.7-3.6, P < .0001). This study underscores the importance of Hemoplasma spp. and other relevant blood-borne pathogens screening at every donation. Implementing stringent screening protocols is crucial to mitigate the risk of hemoplasma transmission via blood transfusions, thereby safeguarding the health and welfare of cats receiving transfusions.
