ABSTRACT Using recently developed proxies for firm‐level political risk and earnings manipulation, we test the limited attention theory. Contrary to Hirshleifer and Teoh's core prediction that investor attention is associated with less managerial manipulation, we find that firm‐level political risk, serving as a proxy for investor attention, is positively associated with manipulative earnings management, using both accruals and real activities. The results are robust to alternative proxies for political risk and earnings manipulation, various techniques addressing endogeneity concerns, and subsamples of firms with different earnings manipulation incentives. Moreover, we find that the negative relation between earnings manipulation and subsequent operating performance is more pronounced among firms exposed to more firm‐level political risk, suggesting that firm‐level political risk is associated with managerial incentives for manipulation more than its association with the monitoring that comes with greater attention.

National data show that about 250 preschoolers are suspended or expelled daily in the United States. Jump Start is a multi-tiered infant and early childhood mental health consultation program that strengthens early care and education centers' capacity to support children's social-emotional development and prevent school suspension and expulsion. This retrospective study examined center-level exclusionary discipline practices, Jump Start participation, and related changes in discipline and expulsion policies. Data from 270 early care and education centers across Miami-Dade County that received Jump Start services during one of three academic years (2022-2023, 2023-2024, or 2024-2025) were included. Analyses examined associations between baseline exclusionary discipline practices, program duration, discipline and expulsion policy changes, and post-Jump Start exclusionary discipline practices. Statistically significant reductions were observed in the frequency of traditional suspensions/expulsions and soft expulsions following Jump Start participation. The association between the Jump Start duration and post-Jump Start soft expulsions was significantly moderated by changes in center discipline policies, such that Jump Start was effective at reducing soft expulsions only when discipline policies showed meaningful improvement. Infant and early childhood consultation models, such as Jump Start, show promise in reducing exclusionary discipline practices, especially when implementation improves discipline policies.

The effects of a single stroboscopic training session on anticipating tennis serve direction were explored. Intermediate tennis players in both the stroboscopic training ( n = 16) and control ( n = 16) conditions completed 40 pretest and 40 post-test service video clips, prompting them to indicate the serve trajectory direction. Identical on-court training was provided for both conditions after the pretest, in which each participant was asked to return 40 tennis serve shots. In the experimental condition, participants performed the task wearing stroboscopic glasses, whereas those in the control condition performed the task naturally, without any glasses. Response accuracy and reaction time (RT) were measured. Results revealed that stroboscopic training significantly improved response accuracy. However, there were no significant differences in RT between conditions. The present study indicates that a single training session can improve the anticipation of serve trajectory detection in tennis. Further research must examine the transfer to the natural environment and investigate anticipation in other types of tasks, such as during play in tennis and in other sports.

The introduction outlines how this volume expands our intellectual understanding of care and the ethics of care. It discusses how the contributors engage in dialogue about care and its associated interpersonal and social dimensions. First, they examine care through a cross-cultural lens, illuminating its rich potential through interactions with Chinese and Japanese philosophies (Part I). Second, they address cross-field dialogues, building connections between the ethics of care, epistemology, and virtue theory (Part II), and further expand the discussion to include practical perspectives from enactivism, clinical ethics, and the philosophy of education (Part III). The chapter adumbrates how these fresh perspectives can lead to the divergent possibilities of theorizing care and its associated phenomena.

Abstract Background Treatment for adolescents who have sexually offended, aimed at reducing risk and recidivism, must be specialized and distinct from adult sexual offending treatment (McPherson et al., 2024). Group therapy can offer psychoeducation to numerous clients concurrently, support youth in developing social skills, and enhance treatment engagement (Rich, 2011). A ims : This study presents the quantitative portion of a mixed methods explanatory sequential design to assess the Unite and Redefine group therapy program in reducing feelings of shame, endorse less hegemonically masculine constructs, and increase self-compassion. Methods This study concerns the quantitative survey portion of a larger mixed methods design. Participants were adolescent participants in treatment for sexual offending and attending. The community based Unite and Redefine Group Therapy program. Participants completed five scales on the first and last day of the twelve-week group. Results A total of nine participants (M age =16.89, SD = 1.17) completed both pretests and post-tests and demonstrated a diverse sample of youth. Participants demonstrated reductions in the masculinity ideology ( p < 0.05), guilt ( p < 0.05), and overidentification subscale ( p < 0.10). The participants also experienced an increase in pride ( p < 0.10) and therapeutic inventory factors ( p < 0.001). Although hypothesized, shame did not see a significant change, while shame and guilt were significantly higher than population norms. Discussion This study offers tentative quantitative support, despite limitations, for the Unite and Redefine group therapy, speaking to the importance of offering interventions that target factors beyond recidivism.

This article aims to show that, to more effectively use artificial intelligence to prosper, corporations also need to develop a digital knowledge-powered culture. This article is not to present data and comes from our 30 years of observations and consulting work experience in the fields of organizational transformation and emerging technology in the world. In this article, we propose that organizations develop a digital knowledge-powered culture to effectively address these concerns and increase the positive impacts of artificial intelligence technology in their corporations. The corporate world has never been the same since the invention of artificial intelligence technology and never will be. In today’s AI-centric era, shaping equals transformation. Shaping means changing the shape. In the cyberspace of AI, real-time transformations take place on the stage. The emerging technology of artificial intelligence is a powerful weapon but a neutral agent, and executives in the US and the other developed world now have two options: develop a digital knowledge-powered culture to use it or ignore such a culture to lose it. We particularly show that if executives select to use artificial intelligence, they should be aware that there is also one concern regarding an effective transformation for AI: cultivating an effective digital knowledge-powered culture for corporations.

Auditory input, such as music or ambient sounds, can influence mood and motivation. Positive auditory input is often assumed to always enhance mood, while negative input is thought to decrease it; yet little research examines their impact during real-world physical activity. PURPOSE: To investigate how various auditory inputs (positive (P), negative (N), self-selected music (M), and silence(S)) influence mood states during a 30-minute self-paced walk. METHODS: A randomized controlled crossover design was used with 24 healthy, active adults (Mage = 23.04, SD = 4.2; 9males), each completing four 30-minute walking sessions under different auditory conditions:positive input, negative input, self-selected music, and silence. Mood states (six POMS-SFsubscales, .75 > α > .90) were measured every 5 minutes. A 4-treatment x 7-time RM-ANOVA was used to assess changes in moods and post-hoc paired T-Tests and ANOVAs using Bonferroni corrections were used where appropriate. RESULTS: Significant Time x Treatment interactions and post-hoc directionality of change: A) POMS Vigor: F (18, 342) = 2.46, p = .001, η2p = .012; S, N = increase, M = decrease, P = no change; B) POMS Fatigue: F (18, 342) = 1.94, p = .012, η2p = .013; N, S = decrease, M, P = no change ; C) POMS Depression: F (18, 342) = 1.35, p = .015, η2p = .017; S = decrease, P, N = no change, M = increase; D) POMS Anger: F(18, 342) = 2.20, p = .004, η2p = .040; M = increase, P, N, S = no change E) POMS Tension: F (18, 342) = 1.86, p = .018, η2p = .018; S, N = decrease, P, M = increase; and F) POMS Confusion: F (18, 342) = 2.38, p = .001, η2p = .018; M, P = increase, N, S = decrease. CONCLUSION: Auditory input significantly impacts mood during walking, with counterintuitive findings, such as heightened vigor during negative input and increased anger during music condition. These results challenge existing assumptions and suggest that positive auditory stimuli may not universally enhance mood during exercise, underscoring the value of personalized auditory strategies for optimal mood regulation. Future research should explore individual variability in mood responses to auditory input during self-paced walk.

Behaviour-based continuous authentication systems like those that utilise an individual user's typing rhythm and device usage behaviour patterns have much potential over password-based schemes since they do not require an individual user to memorise passwords. Irrespective of the progress in biometric technologies, many systems are still susceptible to more complex attacks, and the decision between security and usability has been a perennial struggle for researchers and practitioners. This paper offers a powerful continuous authentication system based on AI and behavioural biometrics, enhancing precision and resistance to motivated attacks. By measuring behavioural data (e.g. keystroke dynamics and motion sensor) on a heterogeneous user population and then analyzing it, we trained our machine learning models to verify users in real-time. Based on our results, our performance is better than that of the traditional and static authentication methods, with an accuracy of 97.2 per cent, with the false acceptance rate (FAR) and false rejection rate (FRR) of 1.8 per cent and 2.3 per cent, respectively. Moreover, error analysis depicted significant trends in behaviour changes, which apply to an adaptive security strategy. This is demonstrated as a potential of AI-based behavioural biometrics to support feasible, secure, and user-friendly continuous authentication systems that work in contemporary cybersecurity scenarios. Future improvements will additionally involve enlarging datasets, combining multi-modal behavioural features, and increasing resistance to spoofing and behavioural drift.
