Aquaculture is the fastest-growing seafood production system globally, offering economic and social opportunities for small-scale fishing communities. Yet, it is often introduced through top-down, technocratic approaches that ignore the social-ecological realities of these communities. Drawing on four case studies from Mexico and Honduras, this study uses a multistage, participatory mixed-methods approach to examine the integration of aquaculture into existing fisheries. We focus on governance, social organization, economic assets, and cultural traditions, key yet understudied dimensions of implementation. Findings reveal that projects overlooking these interactions risk deepening inequities, displacing traditional livelihoods, and weakening community cohesion. Success depends on early economic support, recognition of local traditions and social structures, and the creation of context-specific governance systems. Centering community needs and experiences can help design equitable, place-based aquaculture initiatives that strengthen, rather than disrupt, small-scale fishing livelihoods.

ABSTRACT Prior research on the value relevance of sales has produced mixed results, largely because it is difficult to isolate the information content of sales. Using a unique dataset of interim sales disclosures by retail firms, this study demonstrates that stock market investors react strongly to these stand‐alone sales announcements, and that the value relevance of sales information arises primarily from growth in same‐store sales (SSS). In a decomposition analysis, we find that interim sales disclosures provide more information to the market than earnings announcements and other disclosure events. We also find that interim SSS growth predicts a firm's future earnings and operating cash flows. Overall, this study presents new evidence on the value relevance of sales and contributes to the ongoing debate about whether U.S. retail companies should continue to provide interim sales disclosures.

Purpose The aim of this research was to synthesize the literature on workplace outcomes of gender diversity in sport leadership using a realist synthesis approach, helping to reduce stakeholders’ uncertainty regarding potential consequences of increased gender diversity. Design/methodology/approach The articles were identified using rapid evidence assessment (n = 24) and synthesized in terms of adopted theories and empirical evidence. Findings The theories can be classified into individual-level theories explaining how women differ from men in terms of characteristics and behavior, and group-level theories explaining potential consequences of group diversity, not specifically gender diversity. The identified workplace outcomes include structural characteristics, internal functioning, organizational orientation and performance (incl. financial performance), with gender diversity mainly having a positive or no association. The complexity of sport in terms of types of sport organizations (for-profit, non-profit, public) and workers (volunteers, paid staff) was not considered theory-wise; only some outcomes were sport-specific. Research limitations/implications Since studies mostly applied psychological theories from the corporate literature to sport, future research may consider the peculiarities of the sport sector (e.g. non-profit organizations, volunteers) to a greater extent. Greater consideration could also be given to the collection of longitudinal data that allow identifying causes and effects as well as changes over time and to studying gender diversity in sport leadership from an intersectional lens. Originality/value This article is the first to integrate sport literature related to outcomes (as opposed to antecedents) of gender diversity in sport leadership.

Sedimentary records retrieved from Walden Pond, Concord, MA and Sluice Pond, Lynn MA show evidence of mass wasting likely triggered by strong historic and prehistoric groundshaking. The two lakes of glacial origin form steep-sided basins of 30 m and 20 m maximum water depth with Walden Pond being divided into three distinct subbasins. Because of the visually homogeneous nature of the organic-rich lacustrine muds we employed a combination of sedimentological, geophysical, geochemical, and palynological proxies to characterize background sediments and the fingerprint of the M=5.9 1755 Cape Ann earthquake, the largest historic earthquake in New England. We then used a similar multiproxy approach to investigate the longer record of Sluice Pond as well as the individual records of the three basins of Walden Pond extending the paleoseismic record about 800 years back in time. Robust age models using a combination of radioisotopes, industrial contaminants, and pollen stratigraphy allow for dating of event horizons as well as correlation between different lake basins. Deposited before the arrival of Europeans settlers, sediments in both lakes are composed of organic-rich mud reflecting a forested landscape. The rise of non-arboreal pollen including Ambrosia record the widespread logging practices of European settlers in New England starting in the mid-17th century. Subsequent erosion of soils is marked by grain size decrease, lower organic matter content, and elemental compositions characteristic of local soils. Separate from these long-term trends we identified sediment horizons that mark sudden-onset events. These are typically characterized by larger grain size, influx of nearshore palynomorphs, higher bulk densities, and/ or lower organic matter content. We interpret these horizons as underwater mass wasting events. For Sluice Pond, we were able to identify two event horizons, one associated with the M=5.9 1755 Cape Ann earthquake, and another one dated to between 1390 -1510 CE. For Walden Pond, sediments show synchronous mass wasting in at least two subbasins potentially related to the historic 1755 earthquake, as well as two older events dated to between 1380-1520 CE and 1050-1320 CE. Interestingly, a cluster of landslides in southern Maine within geotechnically sensitive clays dates to 1220-1450 CE and could correlate with the disturbed lake sediments. We analyzed the spatial distribution of event horizons in the two lakes in Massachusetts and landslides in Maine and identified possible source areas and magnitudes of prehistoric earthquakes with one possible source area within the Littleton, MA seismic zone. Our analysis suggests that the seismic hazard in the Boston area might be higher than previously appreciated.

With the increased use of technological supports in residential care homes, there is growing interest in the use of real-time location systems (RTLS) to enhance safety and streamline care. However, these technologies raise significant ethical concerns, particularly for vulnerable populations such as residents living with dementia. This paper critically examines the ethical tensions arising from RTLS implementation, focusing on autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice. A feminist bioethics critique broadens the discussion, emphasizing relational autonomy and epistemic injustice. A composite case study illustrates the challenges faced by residents, staff, and families, revealing gaps in consent processes, data ethics, and the impact on compassionate care. Recommendations include continuous consent mechanisms, ethical data use policies, enhanced staff training, and strategies to counter epistemic injustice. By integrating principles from feminist bioethics, this paper offers a comprehensive framework for ethically integrating RTLS into dementia care, balancing technological innovation with human dignity and compassionate care.

This paper integrates insights from the literature on invention networks, gender, and the sociological literature to analyze differences in how firms participate in man-led and woman-led invention networks. We contribute to the current debate on whether clustering or boundary-spanning network properties are more important for invention by introducing gender as an important factor. We empirically test our hypotheses on a sample of more than 30,000 firms from around the world over time using OECD REGPAT global patent data. Our findings indicate that different network properties are important for firm invention in woman-led and man-led innovation networks. In man-led invention networks, firms strongly benefit from being in a boundary-spanning position and are negatively affected by clustering, whereas in woman-led invention networks, boundary spanning has a less pronounced positive effect, and clustering has a positive rather than negative effect. Our findings have substantial implications for firms and policymakers interested in invention and contribute to the studies of gender and invention networks. • Investigates how gender shapes the impact of network positions on invention outcomes. • Finds that clustering and boundary spanning affect invention differently across team genders. • Shows that cohesion can enhance invention performance depending on team composition. • Constructs innovation networks from global patent data. • Provides guidance for firms aiming to design inclusive, innovation-oriented collaborations.

This primarily exploratory study aimed to describe the willingness to provide private care in the future and to identify factors associated with it in Germany (also stratified by sex). This knowledge is important for planning adequate care in the future. A large, nationwide, cross-sectional study. Wave 50 of the representative GESIS Panel (late 2022 to beginning of 2023, N = 3915 adults). The willingness to provide private care in the future was quantified in detail (ie, general willingness, persons for whom this care would be provided, duration, and type of care activity). Approximately 4 of 5 respondents would be willing to provide such private care in the future. Most people would prioritize caring for their partner, mother, and father. Respondents would be willing to spend on average 12.4 hours per week for providing such support in the future. Nearly 95% would assist with shopping and 70% to 80% with transportation, medication, finances, and meals. About two-thirds would supervise and help with housework; less than 40% would offer basic care. Regressions showed that the general willingness to provide private care in the future was significantly associated with being female, higher education, higher household net income, being married/partner living together, currently caring for a person in need of care, having children, and higher satisfaction with health. Sex-stratified regressions mainly revealed similar results for both women and men. In conclusion, there appears to be a certain potential for future private care in the German adult population, which presumably needs to be supported by professional assistance (especially to cover basic care). This could help those in need of care to live at home for as long as possible, in accordance with their preferences.
