Hca-fnd: a hybrid two-tiered approach for fake news detection using machine learning and natural language processing
Impact of land-use conversion from a long-term paddy to abandoned field on the distribution of C, N, and trace elements: a study in central Viet Nam.
Understanding the accumulation and mobility of soil elements under different land-use types is essential for assessing environmental quality and plant uptake risk. This study investigated the effects of a 10-year land-use change from paddy fields to abandoned land on soil organic carbon (SOC), total nitrogen (TN), and trace elements, including essential elements (B, Mo, Cu, Zn) and potential toxic elements (PTEs: As, Pb, Cr, Cd) in Danang, central Viet Nam. Results showed that SOC was significantly lower in abandoned soils than in paddy and bund soils (P < 0.05), whereas TN showed no significant difference. Bioconcentration factor (BCF) analysis indicated that most trace elements had low BCF values (0.01-1.1), except for Mo and Cd (BCF range: 1.58-45.95), with generally higher BCFs observed in abandoned soils than in paddy soils, suggesting an increased accumulation potential after abandonment. Principal component analysis (PCA) revealed that SOC and TN were strongly associated with toxic elements, including Cd, Cr, and Pb. In contrast, essential elements like Mo, B, and Zn were loaded in the opposite direction. Soil sample clustering further indicated that paddy soils were enriched in SOC, TN, and PTEs; abandoned soils were associated with B, Mo, and Pb; and bund soils were richer in Zn and Cu. These findings underscore the impact of land use on soil quality and potential risks of element transfer to crops, with implications for sustainable soil management and food safety.

Read moreExploring CO2 emission factors in Vietnam towards sustainable consumption
Purpose This study aims to identify factors influencing CO2 emission levels from final consumption in Vietnam to promote sustainable consumption practices. Design/methodology/approach Structural decomposition analysis (SDA) decomposes emission changes into three drivers: demand scale, emission intensity and economic structure. We then apply SDA to a social accounting matrix (SAM) to quantify the contribution of household consumption, government spending, investment, inventory changes and exports to CO2 emissions. Findings Exports are considered the primary emission driver compared to other final consumption types, while emissions from inventory decline. The findings indicate that emissions are mainly driven by final consumption, with additional but lesser impacts from emission intensity and economic structure. The results also show that high-emission sectors and emissions inequality among household groups are due to the differences in income levels and areas. Practical implications The insights from this research are valuable for policymakers and managers as they highlight how adjustments in final consumption can inform the design of effective strategies for reducing emissions. Originality/value The novelty of this research is clarifying the factors affecting the CO2 emissions of various types of final consumption, unlike previous studies that examined each effect separately. Therefore, it provides a detailed perspective on the drivers of emissions from consumption in developing countries with socioeconomic characteristics similar to those in Vietnam, thereby filling a gap in the literature.
Read moreReligiosity and the Speed of Corporate Leverage Adjustment: International Evidence
ABSTRACTThis paper investigates the impact of religiosity on the speed of leverage adjustment (SOA) in a large international sample. Our main result indicates that religiosity has a positive impact on SOA. This finding remains valid after conducting various robustness checks and the correction of endogeneity. In the mechanism test, we show that religiosity accelerates leverage SOA by increasing social trust and reducing agency costs. Further exploring how institutional environments reshape the relationship between religiosity and SOA, we show that religiosity has a greater impact in countries with weaker formal institutions, supporting the idea that informal social norms can act as substitutes for formal institutions. In our cross‐sectional analysis, we demonstrate that the beneficial effect of religiosity on SOA comes predominantly from Protestantism and is more significant for firms with low visibility and those that are under‐levered. Overall, we emphasise the importance of religiosity in shaping corporate capital structure decisions.
Read moreNumerical model in water quality: The case study of Da Nang City in central Vietnam
Abstract The planning and treatment of wastewater discharged into rivers and seas is vital for tourism, domestic water supply, and other key sectors. This study used the MIKE 21 model to evaluate water quality trends and the assimilative capacity of the Vu Gia River estuary and the major reservoirs in Da Nang, considering future pollution loads and climate change scenarios (RCP8.5). Key parameters assessed include DO, BOD₅, COD, and Coliform. Results show a general decline in water quality (WQI) from 2019 to 2030 and again by 2070, with DO and BOD₅ contributing most to pollution. While COD and Coliform remained within acceptable limits (WQI > 75), the Phu Loc River had the lowest WQI (66.0–62.2). Other affected areas include the Han River (downstream and upstream) and the Cu De River. Reservoirs like Dong Nghe and Hoa Trung maintained better water quality (WQI > 80), though a downward trend was still observed.
Read moreThe impact of corporate vision, customer orientation, and core values with experience as a moderator – insights from Vietnamese enterprises
Employee innovation capability is a vital driver of business development and competitive advantage in today's dynamic markets. This study examines the role of corporate culture—specifically corporate vision, core values, customer orientation, and leadership—in shaping employees' innovation capability within enterprises. Drawing on data collected from 890 employees across various Vietnamese companies, this research utilizes the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) approach, analyzed using Smart-PLS version 3.0 software, to test its hypotheses. The findings reveal that corporate vision, while not directly influencing innovation capability, has a significant indirect impact through customer orientation and leadership. Core values, in contrast, demonstrate both direct and indirect positive effects on innovation capability via these mediating factors. Additionally, the study highlights the moderating role of employee experience, showing that more experienced employees tend to be less responsive to visionary initiatives than their less experienced counterparts. This research contributes to the theoretical understanding of how corporate culture influences innovation by integrating Social Exchange Theory, Self-Determination Theory, and Social Learning Theory. It also provides practical implications for organizations seeking to foster innovation, emphasizing the importance of aligning vision and core values with leadership strategies and customer orientation while addressing the potential challenges posed by employee experience. By advancing insights into these dynamics, this study offers valuable contributions to the fields of organizational behavior and innovation management, with implications that extend beyond regional boundaries to global enterprises operating in complex and competitive environments.

Read moreEconomic policy uncertainty and corporate social responsibility: evidence from emerging countries
This study examines the impact of economic policy uncertainty on corporate social responsibility (CSR) performance using a panel dataset spanning from 2004 to 2021 across six emerging countries within Southeast Asia. We find a negative association between country-level economic policy uncertainty and firms' CSR performance, particularly in terms of environmental and social indicators. Our findings remain robust across various robustness analyses and after addressing endogeneity concerns. Further, our study sheds light on how country-level policy uncertainty influences firms' sustainability investments across different sectors. Specifically, firms in the Consumer Discretionary, Basic Materials and Real Estate sectors experience adverse effects from increased economic uncertainty, whereas those in the Health Care sector demonstrate a positive correlation. The study suggests that policymakers and firm managers should address economic policy uncertainty to enhance CSR performance and sustainability investments across industries.
