Developing intellectual humility in adolescence: Why it matters and how schools can help
Abstract Humans are not omniscient. For individuals, appropriately reckoning with intellectual limitations requires intellectual humility or acknowledging the boundaries of their knowledge. Adolescence is a time of immense developmental potential, but is intellectual humility valuable for adolescents to develop, can they develop it, and how might it be developed? Rooted in recent research, in this article, we describe why intellectual humility benefits adolescents in intellectual, social, and civic domains. We also explain why adolescents have the capacity to develop intellectual humility due to developmental changes in both cognitive sophistication and self-understanding. Finally, drawing on an emerging evidence base, we describe how experiences in school shape the development of intellectual humility and we identify priorities for future work in this area.
Read moreResearch on the Product Carbon Footprint Accounting Method Based on Identification and Resolution System and Blockchain
As the core link of energy production, transmission, and use, the carbon footprint accounting and certification of electrical equipment are of great significance for achieving low- carbon transformation in the power industry. However, there are bottlenecks in the carbon footprint accounting of electrical equipment, such as data silos, low data credibility, and broken full chain traceability, which make it difficult to support full life cycle carbon management. Therefore, this paper proposes a method for the integration of identification and resolution system and blockchain technology. This paper takes an 500KV power transformer as an example, a unique identification code is assigned to the transformer product through second-Level node of identification and resolution, connecting upstream and downstream supplier data, and using blockchain technology to ensure that carbon data is tamper proof and trustworthy, achieving accurate accounting of product carbon footprint.
Read moreEffect of Poly(ether imide) on the Mechanical Properties of Epoxy Resin under Extreme Environmental Conditions
The high- and low-temperature mechanical properties of epoxy resin (EP) play a critical role in determining the service performance of carbon fiber-reinforced composites (CFRP) in extreme environments. In this study, the poly(ether imide) (PEI) thermoplastic was incorporated into the epoxy matrix to improve the mechanical properties of the epoxy resin. Curing kinetics analysis demonstrated that the addition of PEI lowered the apparent activation energy of the curing reaction. Rheological testing revealed that PEI increased the viscosity of the epoxy resin and shortened its gel time. Dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) indicated that the addition of 8.0 wt % PEI raised the glass transition temperature (Tg) of the epoxy to 207.7 °C. Tensile testing demonstrated that the epoxy resin modified with 8.0 wt % PEI achieved tensile strengths of 139.43 MPa at RT, 127.85 MPa at 90 K, 93.03 MPa at 373 K, and 46.05 MPa at 423 K, representing improvements of 33.7%, 7.0%, 8.5%, and 24.9%, respectively, compared to the unmodified epoxy resin. Similarly, the elongation at break reached 5.66% at RT and 1.54% at 90 K, representing 38.7% and 11.6% enhancements compared to the unmodified epoxy. Moreover, modulus measurements showed values of 3.53 GPa at 373 K and 2.36 GPa at 423 K, exceeding the unmodified epoxy by 1.7% and 14.0%, respectively. The mechanism of PEI in improving the high- and low-temperature mechanical properties of epoxy resins can be summarized as follows: (i) At low temperatures, the enhanced mobility of PEI molecular chains improves the toughness of epoxy resins; (ii) At high temperatures, the greater rigidity of the PEI molecular chain improves the heat resistance of the epoxy resin.

Research on feature extraction and analysis of voiceprint signals in different operating states of transformers
During the operation of transformers, due to electrical, magnetic, mechanical, and other stresses, the iron core, winding, control mechanism, etc. will vibrate and generate mechanical waves. The vibration sound signal generated through the propagation of insulating media and cavities contains a large amount of equipment status information. When the core and winding of a transformer malfunction or operate abnormally, the vibration voiceprint will change. This article studies the development method of a transformer voiceprint signal acquisition device, and uses the device to record voiceprint signals of transformers under different faults and abnormal operating states. The voiceprint characteristics of transformers under normal operation, winding deformation, partial discharge, loose iron core, multi-point grounding of iron core, DC bias and other abnormal operating states are analyzed, which can provide feature values for subsequent artificial intelligence classification algorithm training.

In the intelligent transformation of the global manufacturing industry, petroleum equipment processing is facing problems such as improving efficiency and ensuring quality, and the intelligent development of Manufacturing Execution System is crucial. Based on this, starting from the optimal scheduling algorithm and system architecture design, an intelligent manufacturing system scheme integrating artificial bee colony algorithm was proposed. In this scheme, a mathematical model is constructed, and the artificial bee colony algorithm is used to optimize the scheduling. Design a layered architecture to improve system performance; It has functions such as record rollback, intelligent splitting and dispatching quality inspection, and assembly line planning tree. Practice shows that this solution effectively improves the production efficiency and product quality of petroleum equipment processing, and helps the digital transformation of the industry.
Read moreInnovative bridge monitoring using computer vision and AI: 10 years of experience in Denmark and the UK
The author of the article has led and managed 40 bridge monitoring projects over the past 10 years in the UK and Denmark, focusing on critical bridge infrastructure. This article describes selected projects and the practical application of image analysis and computer vision in the monitoring of various types of bridges, including railway, road, suspension, and drawbridges. It also presents the use of image analysis for monitoring stresses, displacements, and rotations of key bridge elements such as bearings, expansion joints, cables, and girders. Thanks to the use of computer vision monitoring based on cameras and smartphones, bridge managers have extended the service life of their assets and achieved savings amounting to millions of pounds (tens of millions of Danish kroner)
