Abstract Management and organization research has paid limited attention to how gender, time and organizational dynamics intersect, particularly in shaping gender equality and inclusion. The extant literature also remains largely western‐centric in its focus on the conceptualizations of time and gendered time use. Thus, the present study examines the complex interaction between gender, time and organizations in a non‐western context, specifically in Africa. Through a systematic literature review of 88 articles, we provide insights into the gendered impact of time on inclusion in African organizations. In doing so, we make two key contributions to the literature. First, we develop a conceptual framework that identifies five distinct gendered conceptualizations of time, which offer a culturally grounded lens for analysing inclusion. Second, we highlight the main theoretical perspectives of gendered time use based on our reviewed literature. Furthermore, we also suggest directions for future research to advance research on gender, time and organizations.

Abstract State-owned enterprises (SOEs) in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries are pivotal in driving economic diversification, infrastructure development, and job creation. This chapter explores the institutional and governance factors shaping SOEs’ operations and performance, underscoring the need for tailored policies to enhance their impact at both organizational and national levels. By examining ownership structures, regulatory frameworks, and market dynamics, it identifies key challenges and opportunities facing SOEs in the GCC. The analysis emphasizes the importance of transparent governance, strategic investment, and institutional reforms to fully realize the potential of SOEs for sustainable economic growth and long-term stability.

ABSTRACT As Gulf countries—particularly Qatar—transition from state-led economies to diversified and market-driven systems, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has emerged as a key mechanism for sustainable development. This study draws on 36 semi-structured interviews in Qatar and secondary analysis of Singapore’s CSR frameworks to compare two contrasting governance models. Qatar’s state-led approach ensures policy alignment with General Secretariat for Development Planning 2030 but limits private-sector innovation, whereas Singapore’s market-oriented model fosters flexibility and entrepreneurship but risks uneven social outcomes. Integrating Institutional, Stakeholder, and Resource-Dependence theories with the Shared Value approach, the paper proposes a hybrid CSR governance model suited to post-rentier contexts. This model balances state coordination and corporate autonomy through accreditation systems, digital transparency, independent audits, and incentive-based accountability. Theoretically, it advances CSR governance scholarship by showing how legitimacy and innovation can co-evolve. Practically, it offers a roadmap for Gulf states to transform CSR from a compliance obligation into a strategic catalyst for inclusive and sustainable development.

• Explores how Gulf states balance geopolitical power with the global energy transition. • Analyzes the unique socio-economic and political conditions affecting GCC energy policies. • Reveals GCC strategies combining fossil fuel persistence with gradual renewable adoption. • Highlights policy implications for climate governance and economic diversification. • Contextualizes Gulf dynamics within global clean energy and geopolitical realignments. The Middle East’s energy landscape is experiencing significant changes due to internal socio-economic issues, shifting global energy demands, and evolving geopolitical circumstances. This study explores the geopolitical trends influencing the energy transitions in the Arab Gulf States. The research examines how these countries navigate the complexities of transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources amidst fluctuating oil prices, geopolitical tensions, and stringent international climate commitments. Using a mixed-methods approach combining policy analysis, qualitative review, and cross-country comparison, the paper analyzes key national plans and regional dynamics across Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, and Bahrain. Research findings revealed that the Gulf Arab States face many challenges, including fluctuating oil prices, geopolitical tensions, and balancing economic stability with environmental sustainability. Additionally, adopting renewable energy brings various social and political advantages and enables the Gulf to meet its regional climate governance obligations. The study highlights strategic approaches such as energy diplomacy, economic diversification under national visions, and emerging investments in green technologies and critical minerals. It further identified the risks associated with insufficient integration into global renewable supply chains. The paper concluded with policy implications for regional sustainability, the balance of geopolitical power, and the imperative for institutional reform. This contribution added to the literature by contextualizing GCC responses within broader international patterns of energy transition and geopolitical realignment.

Advanced Metering Infrastructure plays a significant role in smart grid systems by enabling efficient two-way communication between energy suppliers and consumers. Despite its benefits, AMI faces numerous security challenges, including vulnerabilities to cyberattacks and non-technical losses, potentially leading to substantial revenue losses. Data-driven approaches to electricity fraud detection have gained popularity due to smart grids’ big data. However, available datasets lack annotated real anomalies, which poses significant challenges in developing effective detection systems. As a response, researchers have developed synthetic attack models to simulate real-world theft. In this paper, we analyze the validity of popular synthetic attack models and their limitations in representing real-world theft scenarios. By conducting an empirical evaluation of synthetic attacks, we provide a practical assessment of their efficacy and their correlation with one another. Our findings suggest that while these models perform well when tested on synthetic attacks, their performance considerably deteriorates on real-world theft, considering the only real-world public dataset. Furthermore, some attack model pairs were found to be more correlated than others. Consequently, this paper suggests a sufficient subset of synthetic attacks for training and testing to effectively capture the full set of synthetic attacks. • ML models trained on synthetic attacks may fail to detect real-world theft cases. • Models good at synthetic attacks may not retain superiority in real scenarios. • Certain synthetic attacks improve generalization, others perform poorly at it. • A subset of attacks can emulate training on all, cutting training complexity. • Training on smaller subsets can outperform full sets by reducing noise/confusion. • Some attack cases may mimic normal use; filtering them could boost model accuracy.

The purpose of this article is to analyze the collapse of the international humanitarian system through the Gaza lens during the Israeli genocidal war that began on October 7, 2023. Despite being one of the most brutal and devastating humanitarian crises in modern history, the global response has been defined by obstruction, delays, and complicity. Drawing on interviews with humanitarian actors and extensive documentary evidence, the article reveals how the intersection of Israeli geopolitical control and the international humanitarian architecture politicized aid efforts, rendering them ineffective and morally compromised. The core principles of humanitarianism and the foundations of international humanitarian law were violated with political impunity. These moral codes were established to safeguard civilians, yet they were repeatedly ignored and trampled on, exposing the international community's inability to enforce them in contexts where power undermines law. The key findings in this article call for the restoration of humanitarianism so that its core purpose can be reinstated: to protect civilians rather than buckle under the pressure of state powers. The author emphasizes the urgent need for international accountability and support to strengthen Gaza's humanitarian system, ensuring its capacity to address immediate needs, promote societal resilience, safeguard community identity, and uphold human rights.

Purpose This study aims to investigate the impact of high-involvement work practices (HIWPs) on job satisfaction, exploring the mediating role of job crafting through the lens of the Job Demand-Resource (JD-R) Model and the Conservation of Resource (COR) Theory. Design/methodology/approach Data were gathered in two waves from 270 paid employees working in 30 nonprofit organizations and were analysed through structural equation modelling. Findings The findings demonstrated that HIWPs have a robust positive effect on job crafting and job satisfaction. Besides, job crafting strengthened employees’ job satisfaction and partially mediated the favourable effect of HIWPs on job satisfaction. Practical implications This study provides practical insights into how organizations can promote job crafting and enhance job satisfaction by implementing HIWPs. Originality/value Considering the dearth of studies on the relationships between HIWPs with job crafting and job satisfaction in the nonprofit sector worldwide and in the Eastern sittings, this study is distinct by novelty as it plugs several gaps within the literature of non-profit sector and strategic human resource management.
