CLUSTER STAFF search coils magnetometer calibration – comparisons with FGM
Abstract. The main part of Cluster Spatio Temporal Analysis of Field Fluctuations (STAFF) experiment consists of triaxial search coils allowing the measurements of the three magnetic components of the waves from 0.1 Hz up to 4 kHz. Two sets of data are produced, one by a module to filter and transmit the corresponding waveform up to either 10 or 180 Hz (STAFF-SC) and the second by an onboard Spectrum Analyser (STAFF-SA) to compute the elements of the spectral matrix for five components of the waves, 3 × B and 2 × E (from EFW experiment) in the frequency range 8 Hz to 4 kHz. In order to understand the way the output signal of the search coils are calibrated, the transfer functions of the different parts of the instrument are described as well as the way to transform telemetry data into physical units, across various coordinate systems from the spinning sensors to a fixed and known frame. The instrument sensitivity is discussed. Cross-calibration inside STAFF (SC and SA) is presented. Results of cross-calibration between the STAFF search coils and the Cluster Flux Gate Magnetometer (FGM) data are discussed. It is shown that these cross-calibrations lead to an agreement between both data sets at low frequency within a 2% error. By means of statistics done over 10 yr, it is shown that the functionalities and characteristics of both instruments have not changed during this period.

The Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology (http://AtlasGeneticsOncology.org) is a peer-reviewed internet journal/encyclopaedia/database focused on genes implicated in cancer, cytogenetics and clinical entities in cancer and cancer-prone hereditary diseases. The main goal of the Atlas is to provide review articles that describe complementary topics, namely, genes, genetic abnormalities, histopathology, clinical diagnoses and a large iconography. This description, which was historically based on karyotypic abnormalities and in situ hybridization (fluorescence in situ hybridization) techniques, now benefits from comparative genomic hybridization and massive sequencing, uncovering a tremendous amount of genetic rearrangements. As the Atlas combines different types of information (genes, genetic abnormalities, histopathology, clinical diagnoses and external links), its content is currently unique. The Atlas is a cognitive tool for fundamental and clinical research and has developed into an encyclopaedic work. In clinical practice, it contributes to the cytogenetic diagnosis and may guide treatment decision making, particularly regarding rare diseases (because they are numerous and are frequently encountered). Readers as well as the authors of the Atlas are researchers and/or clinicians.

This chapter presents a new method to analyze the link between the probabilities produced by a classification model and the variation of its input values. The goal is to increase the predictive probability of a given class by exploring the possible values of the input variables taken independently. The proposed method is presented in a general framework, and then detailed for naive Bayesian classifiers. We also demonstrate the importance of "lever variables", variables which can conceivably be acted upon to obtain specific results as represented by class probabilities, and consequently can be the target of specific policies. The application of the proposed method to several data sets shows that such an approach can lead to useful indicators.Request access from your librarian to read this chapter's full text.

Chapter Two. French Protestants And The Legacy Of John Calvin: Reformer And Legislator
French Protestants, as disciples of the Calvinist Reformation, willingly describe themselves as 'Reformed,' like their principal church; or as 'Huguenots,' with its strongly historical and even martyrological connotation. In the first half of the twentieth century, Calvinist Protestantism ended up endowing itself with a clearly structured image of its founder. John Calvin was viewed as the man whose particular talent for legislation had known how to organise and to save the Reformation for France and several other countries. We know, much better than the Calvinists of 1903, to what extent the issues of legacy and image are cumbersome, sensitive, and decisive; to what point they require that we go through the exercise of drawing up an inventory of the past and judging it-perilous, yes, but in the end a source of reconciliation and of peace. The legacy of Calvin among his own heirs is a textbook case in this regard. Keywords: Calvinist Protestantism; Calvinist Reformation; French Protestants; John Calvin

This paper describes the implementation of a visualization system in a distributed environment, on top of a shared objects management layer, named DS2 [4]. The DS2 library manages partitioned objects, that can be distributed over a network, or among the different processors of a parallel computer. Parts of objects can be accessed by processes having no knowledge about their actual location. It is running on CRAY supercomputers, Intel iPSC860 parallel system, as well as on Silicon Graphics and Sun workstations.
Read moreThresholded consensus for n-trees
A class of (multiple) consensus methods for n-trees (dendroids, hierarchical classifications) is studied. This class constitutes an extension of the so-called median consensus in the sense that we get two numbersm andm′ such that: If a clusterX occurs ink n-trees of a profileP, withk ≥m′, then it occurs in every consensus n-tree ofP. IfX occurs ink′ n-trees ofP, withm ≤k <m′, then it may, or may not, belong to a consensus n-tree ofP. IfX occurs ink″ n-trees ofP, withk″ <m then it cannot occur in any consensus n-tree ofP. If these conditions are satisfied, the multiconsensus function is said to be thresholded by the pair (m,m′). Two results are obtained. The first one characterizes the pairs of numbers that can be viewed as thresholds for some consensus function. The second one provides a characterization of thresholded consensus methods. As an application a characterization of the quota rules is provided.
