Treating Trauma Memories Reduces the Distress of Related Memories
Trauma therapists must make clinical judgments about what order to target memories for treatment. Study 1, of 146 self-identified trauma therapists, found a variety of reported strategies for deciding which trauma memory to treat first, including letting the client choose, treating the memory that caused the symptoms, or working in chronological order. Study 2a, of 159 therapists in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) or progressive counting workshops, examined the impact on the distress level of a later memory after treating an earlier related memory. Study 2b, of 114 therapists in EMDR or progressive counting workshops, examined the impact on the distress level of an earlier memory after treating a later related memory. In each condition, the distress of the untreated memory was reduced; the effect was greater when treating the earlier memory. In study 3, 3 therapy clients rated the distress level of each trauma memory at the beginning of each session, as the trauma memories were being resolved in chronological order. The distress level of many (but not all) later memories did go down following the resolution of earlier memories, and this effect persisted over time. These findings suggest that treating trauma memories can reduce the distress level of related memories, with a greater effect when treating earlier memories.

Read moreReal-World Adherence and Effectiveness of Inclisiran in Lowering LDL-C: Results from 1 Year of Follow-Up.
Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) is a global health concern. Reducing low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) is critical in ASCVD prevention and treatment. Inclisiran, a novel RNA therapeutic agent, offers a promising solution by lowering LDL-C with twice-yearly dosing after an initial and 3-month dose. The study objective was to evaluate adherence to inclisiran and its lipid-lowering effectiveness over a year of treatment. This retrospective cohort study involved patients over 18 years old with ASCVD or hyperlipidemia who initiated inclisiran between January 1, 2022, and May 17, 2023, in US outpatient clinics. LDL-C reduction was evaluated in patients with ≥ 1 pre- and post-index LDL-C measurement by comparing baseline levels to the lowest value within 12 months after initiating inclisiran. Overall, 225 patients initiated inclisiran. The mean age was 69.9 years and 50.7% were female. Most patients (81.8%) had ASCVD. Most patients (91.6%) received a second dose, and 84.5% of these received a third dose. Overall, 202 patients had ≥ 2 LDL-C measurements, with a mean baseline LDL-C of 134.8 mg/dl. Mean absolute LDL-C reduction was 66.1 (standard deviation: 45.6) mg/dl, corresponding to a 46.8% (95% confidence interval: 42.7-51.0) relative reduction, and 46.8% achieved ≥ 50% reduction. Patients on concurrent statins and those without prior anti-proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 monoclonal antibodies experienced the largest relative LDL-C reductions: 55.4% and 51.1%, respectively. Inclisiran significantly reduced LDL-C. The dosing schedule promoted high adherence in a real-world setting, particularly among older adults with ASCVD. These findings indicate inclisiran may be a particularly valuable addition to lipid-lowering strategies.
Read moreA Comprehensive Review of Real-Time Multi-View Multi-Person Markerless Motion Capture
Markerless human body motion capture promises to remove markers from capture studios, thus simplifying its diverse application fields, from life science to virtual reality. This comprehensive review examines recent advances in real-time markerless motion capture systems from 2020 to 2024, focusing on real-time multi-view, multi-person tracking solutions. Recent advancements, particularly driven by neural network-based pose estimation, have enabled real-time tracking with minimal latency, achieving at least 25 frames per second. Through systematic analysis, we evaluate these methods based on three key metrics: accuracy in pose reconstruction, end-to-end latency, and computational efficiency. Special attention is given to how architectural decisions impact system scalability regarding the number of camera viewpoints and tracked individuals. While current methods show promise for applications like sports analysis and virtual reality, challenges remain in achieving optimal performance across all metrics. Through systematic analysis of leading real-time pipelines, we identify key technical advances and persistent challenges. This synthesis provides critical insights for researchers and practitioners working to develop more robust markerless motion capture systems, while outlining important directions for future research.
Read moreStudy of association between valproic acid levels, biotinidase activity and hair loss in Indian population: A cross-sectional comparative study
Background:Valproic acid (VPA) is the medication prescribed for the treatment of bipolar disorder, epilepsy, and migraine. It is reported that the VPA treatment leads to biotin deficiency due to the low serum biotinidase activity. Alopecia or hair loss is another common side effect of valproate administration.Aim:The study aims to investigate hair loss complaint in people, who are on Valproate and find the association between valproate levels, serum biotinidase activity and hair loss in persons treated with valproate. Methods:This two years cross sectional comparative study involving 150 participants was performed at department of Psychiatry of a tertiary care teaching hospital. The study group had 75 persons taking Valproate compared with 75 persons in the control group. Blood samples were collected for estimation of serum VPA levels and serum biotinidase activity. Quantification of alopecia biomarker Interleukin (IL)-2 was estimated. Data was analyzed by using student T test, Pearson’s correlation, and Mann Whitney U test. Results:The study group comprised of 40 males and 35 females with a mean age of 42.04 (±12.85) years. The control group had 39 males and 36 females with a mean age of 38.38 (±14.42) years. Hair loss was reported in 18 (24%) persons of study cohort compared to 2 (2.66%) among the control group. There was a statistically significant difference between biotinidase levels across the participants with hair loss complaint and those without hair loss complaint. (Mean rank of participants with hair loss complaint = 43.30, mean rank of participants without hair loss complaint = 80.45, U = 656.000, P ≤ 0.001). There was a statistically significant difference between the distribution of IL2 across the study and control groups. (Mean rank of study group = 57.73, mean rank of control group = 83.27, U = 3,395.00, P = 0.025).Conclusion:It can be concluded that there is an association between Valproate levels, biotinidase activity and hair loss.
